Player looking for squad (not for squads to post looking for players!)
firestormxs replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - SQUADS AND FANPAGES
30 years old. Florida, USA. Long-time PC gamer and fan of Operation Flashpoint/ARMA series starting with Cold War Crises, though not organized multiplayer. Civilian non-veteran, though more familiar with military and warfare than most other civilians. Looking for mature group to play COOP missions/operations with (ARMA 2 or ARMA 3 preferred). Willing to play any mod, use any communication software, etc.; very flexible. Would prefer a group/squad more on the relaxed side, at least as far as scheduling goes. My schedule prevents me from playing on required set times on the weekend because I usually work every Saturday and Sunday (which it seems most tactical gaming/milsim groups require to be open for games and practice). If possible, please contact me via email (operatorc gmail) or Steam (operatorc). -
Problem reverting mission saves with latest dev branch
firestormxs replied to Lobstris's topic in ARMA 3 - TROUBLESHOOTING
Same on this end with several different scenarios, some of which were even updated after today's content release/patch. Playing from restart, not a previous save. Starts fine initially, then any time I attempt to restart or reload it gives me this error. -
Iran very aggressive? Could you elaborate on that?

How many of you old OFP Veterans are still playing BIS games?
firestormxs replied to nettrucker's topic in BOHEMIA INTERACTIVE - GENERAL
Guilty. Been a military simulator buff since playing Falcon 3 and Aces Over Europe as a kid. Been playing shooters since Wolf3D, but I think it was the original Rainbow Six that turned me onto tactical, realistic shooters (I miss the real Rainbow Six games, not the mediocre-at-best action movie BS that is the Vegas games). Played the hell out of Operation Flashpoint when it came out, but not multiplayer. Missed out on ArmA 1's MP as well. Now I play lots of ArmA 2 and other awesome infantry simulators like Project Reality (BF2 mod). Nothing can compare to OFP or ArmA, though. ---------- Post added at 09:52 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:45 AM ---------- Geez, that's a lot of copies, hah. I did have to buy OFP twice though because I wore out my original disc -- the second one was GotY edition. -
Tell me this didn't just happen.

I was playing the Guerrilla warfare scenario and combat the relentless BTR-90 assaults I set up an SPG-9 launcher to take them out on the way to Mtsa. Almost every single time I would take out on the BTR-90s, the very instant any crewmembers bail, they single-shot kill my ass from more than 300m away. It's also at night. On Regular skill setting. Yeah, it's annoying, but I guess I've gotten used to this nonsense since I've been playing OFP/ARMA/ARMA 2 for years. Still, I wish it were tweaked adequately. Ah well. -
I know the feeling, Vanchatron. Sometimes it's good to take a break when waiting for a new game to come out because I've exhausted pretty much anything interesting on the market. :)

Says who? I understand the need for escape with games for many people, and I seek it out myself at times, but there are other times I want something closer, and sometimes very close, to reality. It's still escape. In fact, it's more like displacement. It has the same effect. But, that doesn't mean I want to actually be in a real battle, or drilling for one. That's what still makes it an escape--somebody that enlists can't escape, for example.

This could be very true!

As you said, the game's not for you. I wouldn't bother waiting and expect it to eventually become the game you want it to be, either. Meaning, don't hold your breath. There are games like ARMA 2 for people that like deeper games, simulations. There are games like BF2 for people that want the look and feel, but not necessarily the realism--as you said, and I agree, that's okay. Different strokes for different folks. ---------- Post added at 09:33 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:32 AM ---------- There is a massive (almost inconceivably) gap between wanting more realism in a game/simulation and actually seeking out real life "adventure" in a real military. ARMA 2 and games (sims) like it fill that gap for those of us looking for that it. Clearly, no such gap exists for you, but that's okay (not saying that to insult you).

Best windows for Arma 2: XP / Vista / Seven ?
firestormxs replied to vento's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
There is. Over time the game's performance will drop, and eventually CTD. Hell, I've even had errors pop up saying that my system has run out of memory (I'm running 2GB) and the game crashes--though, that was only in SP. My performance in MP is always much higher than in SP. I did not know that about the 'flush' command. Thanks! I was wondering if there was something like that. Very helpful. -

I went form Seven to XP, and there was a noticeable increase in performance. -
MP for me. Didn't care for the SP, and I hate having to command the retarded AI. I prefer to play COOP, and I prefer flying MH60s (I'm a damn good pilot) or maintaining/transporting MHQs. I'm more of a support specialist, I guess. I'm a good fighter too, when I have to fight. All those years of playing OFP (skipped ARMA) pay off, hah.

What would you like to see in ofp2
firestormxs replied to Vinsen's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I'm sure everyone wants a storyline.. but I want a .... [Drum Roll] Dynamic Campaign/War.. Kind of like the one in Falcon 4 but smaller of course.. You pick a class/type of soldier you want (medic, Machine Gunner, Rifleman, Radioman, etc). and from there on you are placed on a squad and the whole thing is dynamic.. Now, this is probably quite a ways off, but you all gotta agree with me here... total immersion. Of course, a little better AI, more realism in weapons (ballistics and sounds). Not to nitpick but if they could make Flashpoint do sounds like Black Hawk Down did firearm sounds for weapons, then I would be happy. -----On another note---- I will make sure NOT to scratch my OFP2 cd as I did with OFP 1.. Now I have to go re-buy the game 'cause I cannot copy/extract the /dta/hwtl/data.pbo file. Even with using Windows Explorer it won't let me... As of now, I'm OFP-less and it really hurts .... [sob] -

I have to say Modern Warfare, although WW2 interests me greatly. I also find Rome when it was conquering everything to be interesting. But, undoubtably Modern Warfare is my biggest interest. In particular, I am intrigued by the tragic event in Somali (Black Hawk Down) in 1993. I read the book and the articles several times, not to mention watching the DVD atleast 10 times thus far. I just can't emphasize how much I am interested in the conflict.
