    Hardlocks and bluescreens

Well I thought that I would never be able to play ArmA, because there is not a chance that I would re-install windows just because something is badly programmed. What I did do was buy more RAM (I have 2 gb now) to be able to play other games, and well...ArmA started working perfectly as well! Thanks for all the help guys, I really appreciate it!

    Hardlocks and bluescreens

OK I've updated the motherboard drivers and now the campaign intro runs for about 50-60 seconds before crashing to desktop without any kind of error message. The ArmA process still remains active in the background with 50% CPU usage though... Desertfox: I've searched but couldn't find anywhere to switch between game and entertainment mode.

    Hardlocks and bluescreens

My motherboard is an MSI K8N SLI, and I have just downloaded the latest drivers and will be trying them out very soon. I have checked dxdiag.exe and it says that everything is OK and acceleration is enabled. The build-in soundcard is automatically disabled if another soundcard is inserted, plus i have disabled it manually also. Desertfox: Where is the "game mode" controlled? I only installed the drivers for my soundcard and cannot find that setting anywhere.
  4. Hello everyone! After all the things I've tried, there is nothing else to do but post a topic about my problem, which is getting really frustrating. I installed the ArmA multiplayer demo when it was released and had quite a lot of problems with bluescreens, but after updating directX and openAL they were all solved and it worked perfectly. I bought the 505 version of ArmA two weeks ago and haven't even been able to start playing yet because it bluescreens and locks up the computer all the time (recently no bluescreens but still hardlocks). Both single player missions and the campaign crashes within 30 seconds of starting the game. I have tried both 1.04 (unpatched) and 1.05 but the problem remains the same. Things I've tried, but to no use: * Forced affinity to one processor core * Disabled sound acceleration completely in Windows * Disabled hardware acceleration and EAX in ArmA * Disabled antivirus software Can someone please provide some tips on how to get this game working? I am really looking forward to playing it... Computer info: * AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (no overclocking) * Gainward GeForce 6600 GT golden sample, 128 MB RAM (no overclocking) * Creative Audigy 2 * 1024 MB RAM * Armed Assault 1.05 english version from 505 games * DirextX 9.0c Driver info: * Latest OpenAL driver (1.1, which is also called 1.9.9 when starting download) * Latest Audigy driver via live update, re-verified one hour ago * Latest Nvidia driver (93.71) * Applied AMD dual-core optimizer patch * Applied ACPI performance fix for XP mentioned in hardware issues topic Other info: * CPU core temp when starting game: 55 degrees celcius * GPU core temp when starting game: 51 degrees * All fans running at normal speeds, PSU voltages show nothing out of the ordinary All other games and programs work perfectly and I have not had a single problem/lockup with this computer except in ArmA... What should I do? EDIT: Upgraded to 2048 MB RAM and all problems were solved!

    Demo Troubleshooting thread.

It's funny how things change. First i hated the ArmA demo for being so unstable (crashed with bluescreen + reboot within 10 minutes EVERY time), now that I've gotten it more stable, i love it Things I did to get it stable that you can try out for yourselves: 1. Install the latest DirectX9 december update (link found earlier in this thread) 2. Uninstall OpenAL and install the latest OpenAL drivers (link also in this thread) 3. Running the game on only one processor if you have a dual-core I'm not sure about point 3, but last time I tried it, the game crashed to desktop instead of giving me a bluescreen. Will try to verify if that's the case.

    1.96 on suse

-nomap worked for me, the server no longer segfaults. There should REALLY be a -h or --help option to display parameters, or at least include these in the readme file that follows the linux server

Same for me, although i'm running on Gentoo with a 2.6.3 kernel.

Enemy alerted to grenade before boom

It is never shown in any movies or games, but there is actually a small "explosion" when the grenade leaves your hand; that's the X second timer charge being activated by a pin smashing into it.
  9. OK I've searched the forum for this kind of problem, and I found things that were closely related, but did not help me. I'm trying to host a dedicated server, but I'm having serious problems. Here's my setup: Connection: 512k DSL Router/firewall: Netgear (don't remember model at the moment) Server: Pentium 4 2,4 GHz with 512 MB DDR, realtek 100 Mbit NIC. Standard Intel motherboard. Only running flashpoint, CPU usage around 25%. Software: Cleanly-installed OFP 1.00 -> 1.20.....-> 1.46 plus 1.46 stand-alone dedicated server. No addons installed. I'm also playing from another machine on the LAN, which has exactly the same specs, except the NIC, which is a 3com 309c (something like that....100 Mbit anyways). That computer has the dynamic sound range pack installed, so I can't use that one for hosting. (I'm not running resistance on any of the computers) OK here's the problem: Players connect and everything seems to work nicely; ping is pretty good, 150-200 ms even to most modem players, 50 ms ping to friends. 9 ms over LAN. Then all of a sudden, the yellow square shows for about 2 seconds (on the LAN machine I'm playing from), and I get a message that everyone on the server just disconnected. However, LAN machines do not get disconnected. Rarely, one of the players connecting from the internet also survives. The admin message about resource usage on the server always shows 0% cpu, 0 FPS and 0 in traffic amount. Really strange...could this have something to do with my problem? I'm thinking about some problems that may be causing this, but there always seem to be some argument against it. * To little CPU power: Not a chance. * To little bandwidth: Could be, but on the other hand: why would a single player with 50 ms ping get disconnected due to bandwidth problems? Why doesn't it work like other games, where it gets choppy and laggy if there isn't enough bandwidth, instead of kicking everyone on the server? Plus, it also happens that everyone gets kicked out while in the chatroom, and THAT should NOT be a bandwidth problem. It doesn't really matter if there is one or eight players on the server, it still disconnects randomly, although the problem seems to occur more often if many players are connected. * Timeout problems (the alt-tab + explorer thing): Nope, the yellow square shows for only 2 seconds, then everyone drops. And also, why would the NIC be shut down due to inactivity if the server is constantly sending data? Plus, you can't alt+tab the server * Addon problems: Could it be that all players get kicked out because I'm using the sound addon? I have to test that... Not a server-based problem though, since I recently reinstalled the entire game without any addons. * Port problem: Probably not. I started by opening up port 2234 and 2235 only, and when I discovered the problem I opened the other ports mentioned in Avon's FAQ (great FAQ btw). Nothing changed, problem was still there. * CD key problem: Since I'm only running the dedicated exe on the server, it IS possible to use the same CD key as on the computer I'm playing from, right? * Config errors: Could be, but I've changed the bandwidth settings a few times (min- and maxBandWidth) but it didn't make any difference. * Map problem: Nope, doesn't matter if I play CTF, coop or deathmatch. OK please people, help me out! At least give me some tips on what might be the problem. By the way, where did the 1.49 dedicated server go? The FTP link found in the forum doesn't work...

    skill settings

Is there any way to define own groups that appear in the editor? It *should* be pretty easy adding a definition to some file. Any idea on how to do this?

    crash to desktop

And I suppose you have enough hard disk space OR that you have set your swap file size to at least twice the amount of physical memory in your computer?

    Mouse-Delay

I've had the same issue with lagging mouse in Half-life, and the reason was too high framerate. By using the FPS_MAX or FPS_LAN variables and lowering them to about 45, I got rid of the lagging mouse. Check your "frame rate" setting in OFP and try lowering or raising it and see if it corrects the problem
  13. Is there any link to the sounds? I can't wait to get my hands on them

    Can start multiplayer game

If you're using ANY kind of firewall or internet sharing stuff, try turning it off and see if it works
