  1. Did not ever play OFP. So may I ask does it have an after action review section that would enable to cycle through statistics and performance of each soldier? A text output would be enough. Like single player ending, but containing the statistics of each soldier for both sides.

Yes. That would be excellent! Will this be done?

  2. It is good to note that in nearly all cases, the combat mode of the soldiers that you're commanding depends on how fast they will move. Their default is called: Stay Alert. However, if you change this from Stay Alert, to the faster mode At Ease, then your squad will run with you at about the same pace as you're running. This is because at Stay Alert, your troops must run slower in order to stay... alert. The command for At Ease is ~ > 7 > 4. You will say "All, at ease!" and they will not confirm, but you will know that they heard you, simply because you said it over the comm. link. Watch their speed increase...

When you have contact with the enemy tell them "All, Stay alert!" ~ > 7 > 3, or "All, danger!" ~ > 7 > 2 with either one slowing them down that much more respectively. It's very important to toggle between the modes, if you want your squad to stay alive.

When I wrote this, ~ means tilde (the key below the Esc key), > means just an arrow to show you the next key, and the numbers are simply numbers.

  3. Greetings,

I am one of the lead developers for ACE.

While we don't have a release date set yet, we are planning on releasing in the next few months.

We plan on taking everything that worked well in WGL and enhancing it for ArmA. We also plan on adding a lot more depth and content to ACE.

Specific questions about how and when will be adressed in updates to this thread.

In real life, I am a teacher and we are almost done with the school year. What this means to you is that I don't have a ton of free time when I can work on ACE at the moment. However, school is out in 3 more weeks and then I am more or less on vacation for 3 months. It is during this time that you can expect a lot of updates and the first release of ACE.

    Thanks for your interest.

    Phaeden,

I am so happy you're making this.

Dslyecxi, a man who runs a tactical combat clan that played WGL and is looking forward to ArmA's ACE, introduced me to it through his website. There has never been anything I've wanted more in ArmA or the older Operation Flash Point than to experience this. New to the online gaming world, I've only played earlier games in single player. But now I have something look forward to! Thanks!!

  4. Here is Phaeden's original post from the old forum, so that those of you who had questions there, will now have answers at our new forum here.

    "Greetings,

I am one of the core ACE developers. It is Environment [not Element].

ACE, in short, is a complete conversion for ArmA which will bring with it a much more complete and in-depth package to bring ArmA much closer to a simulation (as opposed to a game). That being said, we also understand that the average use is playing ArmA/ACE to enjoy a tactical first person shooter which emphasizes real world vehicles, weapons, and tactics. We know the average ArmA user is not interested in setting the timing on 0.50 Cal M2 machine gun. However, we also understand the value of having a game/simulation which really places the focus on infantry tactics, combined arms, and realistic weapons and vehicle characteristics.

You can expect to see a complex mess of realism and gameplay. It will NOT be for everyone. I don't even think it will be for the majority of ArmA players (based on the response WGL got in OFP). It requires people to think and act tactically and in an effective team. Rambos need not apply.

I will most more specific information in the coming weeks (as I am almost on vacation).

  5. welcome.gif  Welcome everyone!

I'm creating this topic for the much anticipated Advanced Combat Environment from the creators of Wargames League from the old Operation Flashpoint. Advanced Combat Environment (ACE) should redefine combat in ArmA, much like the Wargames Leauge (WGL) MOD did in Operation Flashpoint. Here is what is written on Dslyecxi's website decribing this MOD - Thank's to Dslyecxi for this copy of his text from his website, I wouldn't have known about it without your help Dslyecxi:

Advanced Combat Environment (ACE) is a mod in progress for Armed Assault that is being done by the core crew that was responsible for the excellent Wargames League (WGL) mod for Operation Flashpoint (OFP). This will undoubtably become the primary mod that Shack Tactical uses in the future - the level of enjoyable realism present in WGL was second-to-none and redefined how we played, and ACE appears set to take this even further.

There are many exciting teamwork- and gameplay-enhancing features planned for ACE, and as I said above, I highly encourage all ArmA players to check it out upon release and follow the development of it. It should be the mod-of-choice for any groups interested in increasing their realism, teamwork, and gameplay at the same time.

Here is what Phaeden, one of the core ACE developers, has to say about the mod:

ACE is a full conversion modification for Armed Assault. The overarching philosophy of ACE is to provide its users with a combat simulation that is both realistic and enjoyable. Our primary mission is to create a wide variety of real world weapons, vehicles, equipment, and tactics so that those playing the ACE mod will be able to better simulate combined arms combat on a modern battlefield. ACE is designed from the bottom up with the goal of encouraging its users to employ real world tactics and strategy (fighting as a team) in order to accomplish realistic military objectives. We strive to create hyper-realism without losing sight that the mod must be playable by the “advanced†user. Our focus is not only on creating coding and scripting which highlights realism but on creating realistic missions on which one may experience the full spectrum of virtual combat.

For the record, this guide is very much oriented towards the WGL/ACE style of gameplay. ShackTac's evolution has been heavily influenced by WGL, and we would not be where we are now - and this guide would not have been written - if not for what WGL gave us in OFP. I expect even better from ACE in ArmA.

There is no ETA on the first release of ACE for ArmA...

The ACE site is not public yet...

Anyone else have anything they're wondering about, about ACE? I'm full of questions and high-energy anticipation myself!

  6. There was one typo in the guide (which was just corrected) where it was called "Element". The main section title is clearly "Advanced Combat Environment". The mod's name is "Advanced Combat Environment".

@Exsosus - I don't understand how you managed to get so worked up over this. Common sense, as applied by others in the thread, shows what the truth of the matter is. There was a typo, and since you went off of said typo instead of any of the other references to the mod in the guide, the topic of this post is now incorrect. I don't care if you change it or start a new one or whatever, I just came here to correct the mistake.

It's a cultural reason. Us Swedish dudes can be known to be a bit hard-edged at times. Thanks for clarifying. My apologies to anyone who thought I went a bit far on this.

I'm going to start a new title in the MOD's in progress section soon, called Advanced Combat Environment

    See you all there!

    Thanks

  7. I wonder if I am the only one that finds Armed Assault's lone wolf missions very unrealistic. In the campaign I am stuck thanks to these mssions. I coould choose between blowing up a bridge and between blowing up a Ural convoy. Lets look at each mission and the gear you get:

    Blowing up a bridge

You start with a few satchel charges

A gun with no ammo  goodnight.gif

I mean come on; every soldier would refuse such a mission. Considering you have only a few minutes to place these charses you  would at least nead a spec ops team considering of a spotter a sniper anti-tank etc. Enough ammo to supply a small army, a clearly marked extraction point, a plan B when blowing the bridge fails etc tec. The truth is most modern armies higly value the lives of their soldiers and place their safety first. Sending 1 soldier on such a mission would be suicide.

    Destroy Ural convoy

You are supossed to detroy the ural convoy wiht 1 satchel charge  rofl.gif and a few anti tank rocket all alone. Again, in the real world this at least takes a specs op team of a sniper an a spotter and a few other special forces operatives. Or to deploy lots of satchel charges with a time limit when the spotter signals in the convoy. Staying within a range of a few 100 meters in army clothes is plain suicide. Besides which backward army doesn't notice the sachel charges lying in the middle of the road? They miss these but can kill you easily when lying in a hideout afer these charges blow whistle.gif .

Am I the only  one who finds these mission very flawed and unrealistic? How can we help Bohemia  to improve them?

Long quote, but it helps newcomers to the forum, right?

    ----

In the first mission you mentioned where the player takes out the bridge, you begin with a gun with no ammo. This I recall. This something the programmers missed before releasing the game. Remember thought, the most probable reason they missed it: Anyone who plays this mission, actually many missions in the campaign, get to choose their own gear. This is what I chose for this mission: An M136 rocket launcher with 3 rockets, an M16 with 4 slots of magazines (that's what I remember). Now also know this: This mission has a re-arming crate near the buildings to the right of the bridge (right of it, from your starting position).

If I were to play this mission again... I would choose: an M136 rocket launcher with 1 ammo, 3 satchel charges, and the rest M16 ammo. Then go reload your rockets and anything else you'd like, heck even switch weapons, at the re-arming crate.

    Cheers!

    -----

For the second mission with the convoy, the earlier players have already answered this for you. (I didn't know the answer the first time I played it either, and I failed the mission...ran for my life). rofl.gif

  8. I need someone else to post the real name to it. After reading the following, I'm going to hold on create a new topic if the first name Advanced Combat Element is still true:

    Dslyecxi wrote:

It's the best OFP mod ever and is what we've been playing for the last nine months or so. The ArmA version of it, Advanced Combat Element, is almost certainly going to be our primary ArmA mod once it gets released.

    http://www.shacknews.com/ja.zz?id=13984492

I cannot find any other references for Advanced Combat Enivronment besides Dslyecxi's website. If Advanced Combat Environment is the correct name, myself, or someone else will I'll create a new topic for it in the MOD's in progress section of the ArmA forum.

Dslyecxi, are these just typos man?

    Thanks

  9. After reading through Dslyecxi's web site shown just above, I realize he might have called it two different titles. Would be nice if one of us could confirm the official title, and either I, or someone else can create the official title in the MOD's in progress section of this ArmA forum.

I don't know if the moderators are reading this forum from my last request...

  10. The mod's title is not "Advanced Combat Element", it's "Advanced Combat Environment".

Ahem! According to Dslyecxi, a knowledgeable ArmA person... On his web site here, the title is as I earlier called it. I'm not going to argue. It's not in my nature. It just looks as if some one needs to reference material properly, especially to his own website.

    Take care.

  11. Dear Moderator,

Will you please move this Advanced Combat Element package to the MOD's in progress category? I'm new to the community of forums here and it didn't occur to me that this topic should be there, and not here. This is not a mission! This is a MOD.

    Much thanks,

    Exsosus

I'm creating this topic for the much anticipated Advanced Combat Element from the makers of Wargames League from the old Operation Flashpoint. Advanced Combat Element (ACE) should redefine combat in ArmA, much like the Wargames Leauge (WGL) MOD did in Operation Flashpoint.

Post more on this topic please when more news arrives for this MOD!
