There is a problem with the video ram "DEFAULT" setting, use "VERY HIGH" Side note: I set map quality to NORMAL and get much better FPS and lower stutter. (I have ordered the OCZ vertex 30Gb to put ARMA on. I'll report back when I've tested)

Also make sure your hard drive is defragged. Preferably with a good free program like "Ultimate Defrag" http://download.cnet.com/UltimateDefrag-Freeware-Edition/3000-2094_4-10582157.html

Another way to do it would be to make far units semi-transparent? I know its a different engine but it was done very well in "Joint Ops"

Oops sorry, didn't mean to post.

Nah, this is what we want... http://gizmodo.com/5168424/fusion+io-iodrive-duo-is-the-worlds-fastest-ssd • Sustained read bandwidth: 1500 MB/sec (32k packet size) • Sustained write bandwidth: 1400 MB/sec (32k packet size) • Read IOPS: 186,000 (4k packet size) • Write IOPS: 167,000 (4k packet size) • Latency < 50 µsec Takes a minute to sink in... [...Yes, starting at £4000 its way out of budget but we can dream... ;)]

Asking for their status will repeat a report of "out of ammo" I think you can see each AI team inventory in the map view under players or something. (sorry I can't check the name right now)

cant play game at all - extreme Graphic Bug
EDcase replied to LenaKatina's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Just another thing I thought about... Make sure your graphics card (and system) are not overheating. I've seen gfx glitches like that from overheated gcards. Just take the side off the case and use a fan to see if that helps... -
Thats weird. Just using standard hdd install my fps shoot up to about 50 when I look out to sea. Normal play is around 20-30
-
Too many great moments. Its a great feeling to know that you are playing in a small area of a huge map. Its feels like a real place. Just an awesome game with great community extras ;)

Just select the action "Center" and click on the button that says F12, then just press the new button. I changed center to zero on numpad. Quick and easy to reach in a hurry.

cant play game at all - extreme Graphic Bug
EDcase replied to LenaKatina's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Sorry to see you are having problems LenaKatina but its not the games fault otherwise more people would have this problem. I have a similar setup to you and don't have any problems. Did you remove previous versions of NVidia driver properly with "NastyFileRemover" or "DriverCleanerPro"? Might be worth uninstalling and reinstalling DirectX Your XP should be on SP3 Good luck... -
every single thing that I did to get this game running perfectly
EDcase replied to -=JackHorner=-'s topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I would suggest trying "Video Memory" on VERY HIGH as DEFAULT seems to reduce some peoples FPS. -
Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
EDcase replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Hi and welcome Snyderje, Sorry, but there is no way to run ARMA2 on a laptop unless its a high end gaming laptop. (even then it will not run at high gfx levels) You will need a dual core 3GHz + or preferably a quad core CPU You will need something like NVidia GTX280 or ATI HD4870. (should have 1Gb ram onboard) What you can do to try and improve things on your laptop is make sure your Harddrive is defragged. The Windows one is not very good. I'd suggest "Ultimate Defrag" http://download.cnet.com/UltimateDefrag-Freeware-Edition/3000-2094_4-10582157.html In options you can specify to put ARMA2 in the high performance part of the disk (Outer part) -
6 seconds... hmm that it not a problem with game settings. Have you defragged the hdd? NOT with windows rubbish. Use "Ultimate Defrag" http://download.cnet.com/UltimateDefrag-Freeware-Edition/3000-2094_4-10582157.html In options specify to put ARMA2 directory in high performance part of disk (outer part) As a side note about your grafix settings, try... Anisotropic Filtering: HIGH Antialiasing: NORMAL (On my GTX285 it has same FPS as disabled) PostProcess: LOW (not much visual difference to HIGH but much faster) Shadow Detail: HIGH (again with GTX285 runs well)

There is no doubt that ARMA2 is unique at the moment. Nothing else can match the gameplay on this scale. Of course there are still problems and it needs optimizing but BIS are still working on it so we can look forward to the future. Suggested Addons: (Disclaimer: These are my opinion. You should check out the download section to see all the other great addons available too) "JTD fire&smoke" A MUST!!!! "SAP clutter" Reduces grass height. Increases fps a bit and makes it easier to see when prone. "Vapor trails" Adds nice effects to planes. "dfs_fpscounter" Useful fps display for optimizing settings. "DrawingDistanceTweak" shows objects further away. "ai_dispersion" makes ai fire a little less accurate.
-
The SpecOP and Ambient Combat Module [ACM] are very cool but I wish you could modify the parameters within the editor rather than have to make scripts.
-
Couple of things make that poll inaccurate tho... 1) Its in the troubleshooting topic. Who do you think is likely to see it there.... 2) Its old. Pre 1.04 so many of the people who voted poorly may be happy now with latest patch. To OP: maybe try the demo......
-
That was a tough mission and I had to try many times with different approaches before I managed to kill that damned tank. Can't give you a sure method for doing it. Try sneaking to the tents for cover and fire off a couple of RPG's or LAW's... I presume you are using version 1.04? (AI should be a little easier to sneak up on)
-
Whats the point of Xfire? Just uses more memory and resources....
-
Have you installed latest DirectX 9? You must install it even if you have DX10 installed.

Help: weird bug of running and sprinting slower than other players
EDcase replied to Salvador's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Have you tried with no addons? I presume you are using shift for sprinting. -
Oldy41: I miss the fake DoF as well but I guess we are in the minority. I wish it could be an option... DoF is one thing that OFP|DR does very well.
-
Hey Jugg: Have you defragged the HDD? Not with windows but something like "Ultimate Defrag". http://www.disktrix.com/ Its VERY good. You can specify to put ARMA folder on the outer edge of the disk (faster part)
-
What would cause a drastic decrease in FPS?
EDcase replied to WMike20052's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Location on the map makes a HUGE difference. Near a town things get really slow even with few AI. I found a good performance boost setting texture detail 'NORMAL' and memory 'VERY HIGH' Looks just as good as HIGH to me... -
Don't think the game itself is buggy..its the scripting
EDcase replied to BeerHunter's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I agree but its a very complex system and so free for the player that its very hard to cater for every possible problem that might come up.
