Which recoil model do you prefer?
EDcase replied to celery's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
I love the new non-zeroing kick but I think it should be toned down by about 1/3 for all stances. It really feels more powerful and realistic. (I have fired real rifles but not alot) -
I had the same view lock as a civ with no weapon (Not dropped. Just didn't have any to start) You can use freelook button to look around. (I'm using TrackIR) I also LOVE the new weapon kickback and non-zero but I think its a little too much. Tone it down by about 1/3 and it'll be perfect. (This kick along with the screen shake gives the best feeling of power when firing I've ever experienced)

Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
EDcase replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
If you upgrade to one of those cards you will see an improvement but don't expect to run everything "full out". You'll need to get 2x GTX480 to run this with everything on high. ;) -
controller of choice for flying aircraft?
EDcase replied to byeohazard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Of course but takes a bit more getting used to. -
controller of choice for flying aircraft?
EDcase replied to byeohazard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Hey, come on... its gotta be a joystick :D (why do you think they called it that... ;)) X52 here If you really like flying you should also look at a TrackIR 4 or 5. Thats a whole new experience -
Stealthy play style still sucks......?...

Its true that the AI in ARMA can be very impressive and convincing SOMETIMES and other times almost non existent. I think that the awareness and direction to threats needs a bit of work. Sometimes awareness is too high such as throwing a grenade, firing an RPG or detonating satchels gives your position away too accurately. And other times when firing at a group some will not react at all while their buddies are falling in front of them. I have to say that on whole the AI is very good and better than any other game of this scale (beacuse there aren't any ;)) Its just a pitty that sometimes they completely fail and that ruins their reputation. -
What about issuing the order "Engage at will" to all? (3,5 I think)

First thing to do is defrag the hard drive. Can't help with OA since I don't have it yet but from what I read it should find your ARMA2 installation and put itself there. Then you can run OA and use ARMA2 goodies. What version of windows are you on? If its Win7 then have a look HERE and turn off the services that are not needed. (Knowledge of Windows opperation is required and I take no responsibility if anything goes wrong) I turned off all the services mentioned without any problems. -
Grenade throwing after OA is supposed to link strength with how long the button is held down. Maybe try holding the button longer?

Some people control their dissappointment better than others. (probably and age thing) ;) -
Arma 2 Arrowhead Crashing to desktop
EDcase replied to bobdihi's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Well, I can understand people getting angry for not being able to play. (I hope I don't have any problems when I get it otherwise I'm gona spam the place with complaints ;)) -
In order to take advantage of "large address aware"...
EDcase replied to randir14's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Its still a 32bit application so should be in x86 (it choses itself) but I think it will be able to access more ram than a standard 32bit app once its updated. -

One thing you should know about BIS is that they will keep trying to fix it. Since many people don't have any crashing problems its obviously a system problem. ie your machine doesn't like it for some reason. What version of game: Retail or Steam? Whats your specs and are drivers up to date? If you want real help then need more info. -
Not sure if it will help but you could backup the "Saved" and "Usersaved" folders from the user directory before patching. Is this when you patched from 1.05 to 1.07? (I haven't done it yet ;))
-
With 2gb ram I'm surprised you can do anything in Win7 I think you are going to need more ram whatever the problem is. ------------------------- For CTD: Try the latest Beta. Set texture memory to NORMAL

Hahaha, thats funny since its supposed to be dusk/night time. ( I guess you don't like night missions then) FACT: The "cones" (colour perception) in the retina are not as sensitive in low light therefore scenes look more grey. ___________________________ Also notice in the OA pic you can't see the street light by the farm at the bottom. ___________________________ mrcash2009: Yes, it will look different on different monitors but the difference between the two images is clear.
-
mrcash2009: So you will change your monitor or game settings every time you change from day to night missions.....?!?!?!
-
Oh dear, from those images ARMA2 looks way better and OA looks like some old crap fps shooter :(

Installed OA - can't defrag my hardisk anymore.
EDcase replied to nettrucker's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
... and just to add to the confusion I use Ultimate Defrag (free version) The main advantage with this one is that you can specify which files/programs go on the outside (fastest) part of the platter. -
Duno about OA but 3d in ARMA2 had a few quite serious problems that stopped me going further than the anaglyph test. 1) Cross hairs. I don't use em as infantry but they always come up when flying and they do not work in 3d. 2) Smoke is not 3d so looks awful. 3) Shadows are not 3d and look awful. Would be good to know if it works better in OA (if anyone can reply before I can test myself) Of course don't forget that 3d will render the scene 2 times so you will need an even more powerful gcard to make it smooth.
-
Well said andromedagalaxe ^ Sincraft: Honestly if you didn't like the demo then this game might not be for you. It has improved alot over the demo but there are still some quirks and things that don't work sometimes. For us fans we see past all the little niggles and enjoy a truly unique gaming experience.

OA: Campaign - A frustrating experience
EDcase replied to sirwaffel's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
The re-arm problem comes from way back. (surprised they haven't fixed yet) There is a temporary work-around. If you keep 1 Hellfire and go back then the re-supply should work. -
It sets the number of levels for the HDR effect. Higher = smoother but more strain on gcard. Default is 16 I think. Mine is set to 8

Yup, I've got a room with projector and 5.1 ( I did try ARMA on it. Nice but I'd put too many hours on the bulb and no one would get any sleep in the house) I've also tried a stereo headset with simulated surround from a Soundbaster X-Fi (I know not the best) ...and I'm still usin the Medusa ;) When it eventually dies I'll get a good sound card and try that.
