Oops, was going to point out same quote from interview mentioned by DMarkwick

Look at the bottom of the SP mission list in Takistan. Its a simple waypoint mission so you can just as well make your own in the editor.

All info is out there.... http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/High_Command You can ignore the scripting stuff at the moment. Just create a high command module and syncronize it with your character

My earlier post about needing a joystick was not to put anyone down or feel superior. What I meant was that its been designed as the best tool for controlling aircraft and is also available for our PCs. Its just a fact that keyboards are not analogue so you can't control how much yaw pedal you are exerting and in a helicopter that is especially important. OMAC: What makes you think its nerdy having a joystick???? The best ones like Thrustmaster Warthog are a bit extreme I must say but reviews say its good so if you have the money.... Try a cheap one first maybe. I know you weren't being sarcastic but remember that most of us are here because we like heli sims so naturally want the more realistic/difficult experience. -

What gave you that false idea? Why do you think there are so many people asking for more flight realism???? If you like flying then YES, you need a joystick. Do you know of any real aircraft that are controlled with keyboad and mouse????? We are off topic so I'm not going to discuss this any more. -

I can't believe that people want realistic flight characterisitcs etc and play with mouse and keyboard  If you are into flying how can you NOT use a joystick??????? -

I understand that this is early days but the shadow of the rotors on the ground are not nice. I think it would be better not to have any shadow of rotors on the ground as they would be very faint and diffused anyway. Friction with ground is a bit too high. -

Great job BiS, loving it sofar... My comment at the moments would be: (Having only a few hours flying time in a Robinson R22) -YAW(pedals) are not sensitive enough. I mean full deflection in a hover would spin the aircraft ALOT faster. (Full deflection would never be used tho perhaps in high crosswind) -I think the roll effect is too high with auto-trim off. Small detail but when main rotors are destroyed the engine should over rev. (go high pitch and then probably fail) The main thing that hit me when I first flew a real heli is how ridiculously sensitive all the controls are. In reality the cyclic only needs to be moved millimeters in normal flight. On a separate note: I'm not so keen on new UI layout. For some reason I prefer the menus in the middle or right side. -
What does it look like?

HDD`s effects game play more than you think
EDcase replied to stk2008's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I use Ultimate Defrag (free version) which allows you to choose what to put on the outer edge. (ARMA of course ;)) stk2008: If you get the cheapest 7200rpm drive and put ARMA on it then you'll get better performace for the lowest cost. I don't think it will be much better tho. -
HDD`s effects game play more than you think
EDcase replied to stk2008's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I was using an OCZ Vertex 2 30GB SSD just for ARMA. I recently upgraded my machine and the SSD won't work for some reason so I installed to a normal 7200rpm HDD (separate partition). It does take a bit longer to load the game and missions but to be honest it does not affect gamplay at all that I can notice. No stuttering even flying low and fast in a jet. I think you have reached the limit of your CPU and GFX card. Loading will be quicker but I don't think it will play any smoother with an SSD. Try texture detail on NORMAL and memory to DEFAULT and see if that helps. Good luck -
BF3 does look great. The Frost engine is amazing but its still a corridor shooter at heart. ARMA3 is a whole different approach with MUCH more depth. (game modes, vehicles etc.) It may not be best shooter but easily best PC game. As Pathetic Berserker said, its more about popularity so ARMA can't win. (this year...)

ARMA3 needs better ACCESSIBILITY for players to meet, chat and play out of the box!
EDcase replied to avibird 1's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
What it comes down to is a better server lobby with more filter options like show vanilla or moded servers. A button to show more info about a server such as how long its been playing the current mission (currently not working) and what mods are required. Ideally it needs an auto download option for mods used but this could be hard to implement in getting the latest version and having to wait a long time for some big mods or maps. (ARMA would probably need to be restarted as well) Public servers get ALL the new players who don't know how to play etc. Some will get into it and try to play properly while others will get bored and run amok. Having Domi or one of those perpetual missions allows them to get familiar with the gameplay in a forgiving (respawns) and team based (if they try) scenario. Having a normal mission with no respawn will definitely put them off as they will get killed quickly and have to go find another server. -
Would be great but I don't want to think of the CPU hit :(
-
Exactly! Each module should have a window come up in the editor with all parameters as sliders, input fields or drop-down menus.

The AI have no idea what your plan of attack/defence might be so there is no way they will know whether to flank left, stay back, advance or board a vehicle so we do need a quick way to issue commands. I think the best system is the radial but the actual breakdown needs alot of thought. (we can't really help with that right now because we don't know all the possible commands and options that will be in A3) How about 2 modes for the radial: 1- Full screen like the images from AmericasArmy etc. 2- Small mode in a corner which just shows words that can be selected without the graphics.
-
Well, we definitely need separate fire mode selector and weapon select. A separate grenade throw button with over/under mode would be good too. Ordering AI to get in a vehicle when you do not have visual is a pain. It could be done by clicking on the map icons but what about in modes when there are no icons...? Menu rose could work but I hope they keep the number selections as well because when you get used to it that's the fastest possible way to issue commands. Carl, you gotta work on those ;)

DMarkwick: I agree that the max particle size in annoying when zooming in and seeing them appear to shrink. Nice idea linking to PhysX. It would be great if objects had even a simple influence on particles. Just a repel force around vehicles would be great. AussieOsiris: Yeah, thats opacity occlusion and I'm sure that will be included in A3 since its using DX10/11. The clouds in the game footage are already much better.

TOH will have VERY different missions and playing style to A3 so you can't compare the two as conflicting. I don't think A3 will be able to have a FM as complex as TOH but I'm hoping that it can use some TOH features to make it a bit more real/complex.

May as well chime in... A better sound engine. Currently the direction of a sound is not clear when within 50m of the source. Environmental effects based on location. ie. inside hangar, building etc.
-
Welcome Hitmanre, Yep, as said above. Get used to the game without addons first. Do a few of the built in missions and get as far as you can with the campaign ;) Try a bit of MP but keep in mind that most servers are public and a bit chaotic. You won't get to see how good it can be until you join a group and play as a real team.
-
While I agree its not perfect, it is much improved from ARMA2. I didn't have so many problems as you with those missions. Are you sure you have the latest patch? What CPU are you using? Remember that AI performance is related to your CPU power.

Nobody plays anymore, atleast for MP
EDcase replied to m241shotk1ll's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Calm down guys... The 'problem' with public servers is that there are alot of new players who don't know what they are doing or how ARMA works. The have become learning areas for new players. Some will try learn how to play properly and get on with the mission. Maybe even joining a squad to play together. BUT others will get bored and want instant action so they start to destroy things and TK. The problem is that ARMA is not an instant action game (in general) and there is just too much of a mix of players in public servers to have a proper game. Its also very complicated to learn and this frustrates many (younger?) players. I think BIS really needs to improve the in-game comms and server lobby. Mods are an integral part of playing ARMA but there should be options to auto-download them built in. Appart from that I don't see how BIS can imporve the play aspect. They are improving the animation system which is one of the big gripes for PvP so maybe that will improve in ARMA3 -
Yeah, thats why I said that I don't know if its possible. I think a few things should be options in ARMA3 like turbulence, dissable auto yaw, realistic power limits etc. This may not be possible; but damage/failure if flight envelope exceeded. eg. rotors rip off if turning too fast at high speed. I could live without the switches if they are too difficult but its more about how the helicopter behaves and removing the flight 'helpers'. On a slightly separate note to hijack my own thread: The rotors MUST be deadly in ARMA3. No more walking though the tail rotors. (Not really an issue with the Comanche though ;)) Also the blades need to have collision detection to be damaged/destroyed by strikes with objects. Light damage could introduce shaking/vibration and less response to Cyclic controls.

Take on Helicopters, E3 coverage (reveals)
EDcase replied to Dwarden's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - GENERAL
Yep, looks great!!! I wonder how important it will be to leave the helicopter during missions.
