Ah, a fellow 3d man? I was just checking to make sure other people didn't get the wrong idea about core usage ;)
-
Not getting that for A3 I presume. HIGHLY doubtful that it will take advantage of 8 cores... Since BIS are working on optimizing things and judging by improvements to viewdistance in ToH preview with no fps hit I'd say that a machine which can handle Arma2 well should be fine for A3. Of course not on max settings. (I doubt even a machine in a year could run it at max setting ;)) If you need a gaming rig now try and look for best prices on: P8P67 motherboard 2600K CPU (With good cooler) (Overclocked to 4Ghz very easy) 8 GB of decent ram A 7200rpm HDD (Or small SSD better) Nvidia GTX580 (Get Nvidia to take advantage of PhysX) Good 650watt power supply (Get a good one as this is the basis of a stable machine) That runs ARMA2 very well for me and I think I'll be happy with A3 for a couple of years until the next upgrade. ...BUT as said before, if you can wait that is the wise choice as you will get all that or better for less money...

Devs, how about... weekly updates! (Community poll inside)
EDcase replied to instagoat's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Very true and certainly don't want that to happen. I don't think we're asking for special presentations but maybe they can post a few pictures once in a while from their testing. I'm genuinely interested in the process so just a very simple blog entry each week would be great. eg. Just to say, 'This week working on AI' I know it won't change often but would be interesting none the less. -
Moving between islands
EDcase replied to firestorm_one's topic in CARRIER COMMAND: GAEA MISSION - GENERAL
I do remember some footage from the E3 where it showed the ship moving in real-time and in the environment so you could see the ship moving from an onboard view. If I find it again I'll post here... -
Yeah, this sounds good to me though I have no idea of AI coding. It would be great to have a module that has a list of parameters that can be changed in the editor. Perhaps percentages to give importance to: -Fleeing (I know it exists as a command but would be good to integrate to this module) -Surrendering (Currently available as separate module. Would be good to integrate) -Stealth (Higher for special forces so they tend to avoid contact until they reach their waypoint/objective. Also would be set high for snipers) -Attack (This would be set higher to force advancements or very high for crazy insurgents. Very low for medics) etc. But then comes the complication of changing states... Perhaps this is already possible with waypoint types...?

This would be great. Even the smallest bits of info or a few pics here and there will help the long hours of waiting... (I am sitting here doing nothing while I wait for A3) -
How the new dimension water can be used [Ideas & Concepts]
EDcase replied to purepassion's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
The underwater scenario does seem a bit limited at the moment. We will probably get hand deliverable mines (Limpets?) but these will have limited use as there are no large vessels that can move. So as PurePassion stated, divers will be mainly used for covert missions behind enemy lines where stealth is important and not much equipment is needed. This could include sabotage or observation, small scale rescues. (Lasing targets is unlikely due to the size of designator) I wonder if the diving equipment will be 'removable' so that once ashore they will be able to move more freely and unpack conventional weapons. Or be able to suit up from a stash of diving gear. -
Keep your smart-ass sarcastic comments to yourself please. The Mods will move it if they wish. (Your sig says alot)
-
Hopefully this will be included with physx but for the record: I'd like to see better traction simulation for vehicles. (mainly for wheeled vehicles) Would be great to skid if turning or stopping too fast on gravel, sand or even wet ground (would make weather affect gameplay more) More power to vehicles so can lose control if not driven carefully. Its boring to just hit 'E' or turbo for full speed all the time. ---------------------------------------------------------- As mentioned before: Some wire cutters that can be added to inventory for those damned fences ;)
-
Don't dead bodies have an age attribute? When viewed with thermals they get colder with time. That way only 'fresh' bodies would interest the AI...
-
Ouch, yeah a cooler sounds like a good idea. Great to be able to play ARMA on the move ;)

RESOLVED:See post #9 I have searched and found some topics on this but all were old and had no explanation or resolution so just want to know if anyone has an idea... I've had no problems joining servers in general but just with one (which happens to be mine) [LRC Gaming] When I click 'Join' it says 'Wait for Host' and then almost immediately I get kicked with "Session lost" and the server crashes. This happens even with no mods on server or client. Relevant ports open in Firewall and forwarded in Router. Linux server. All lower case files. Any ideas...? Duno if its related but I do have this line in my RPT: Item str_disp_server_control listed twice (search gives no info)
-
I have an X52 and some buttons are not recognized by ARMA even though they are in Win7 device properties. Is this because I need to run the SST program? Does anyone have this with another joystick? Cheers
-
Client (me) does not crash. Just booted back to servers list/lobby. Server (Shared Linux Arma server) crashes. (Can't see RPT on server) Server log shows: 4:01:50 ME uses modified data file - Arma 2;Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead;Arma 2: British Armed Forces;Arma 2: Private 4:01:50 Player ME connecting. 4:01:52 Player ME connected (id=******). 4:10:47 BattlEye Server: Initialized (v1.116) Thats it All files are lower case which is a requirement for Linux. Other clan-mates have joined without problem so its something to do with my machine. Gossamer: That RPT is created just by starting ARMA and then exiting. ---------- Post added at 10:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:57 PM ---------- UPDATE: I deleted all the MPmissions and now I can join OK. So I'll upload one mission at a time until I find the culprit

Combined Operations unique Issue
EDcase replied to felingard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Make sure "Texture memory" on DEFUALT -
It is an editable option though I don't know how to set it myself. Search and download "Warfare Benny edition". That has parameters you can set at the start.

Hi and welcome. What are CPU and GPU max temps when playing ARMA?
-
Try this, looking for different filenames of course.

ArmA's video config is horribly messed up and I cant change it
EDcase replied to c_programmer's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Find ArmA2.cfg in Documents/ArmA2 and rename extension to anything. Then start arma again and see if its fixed. If not then open the new ArmA2.cfg it with any text editor. Manually fill in the resolution of your monitor. Its strange that it didn't work so maybe you should update your graphics driver. -
Agreed. (NOTE: Get one with twist rudder) I also use X52pro but waiting for x65 to arrive for testing ;)For those that do go for a joystick, it will seem awkward at first but its much closer to the real flying experience and will feel better when more used to it. Its just not physically possible to control the rudder properly with a keyboard as its only ON or OFF. HIGHLY recommended: TrackIR (4 or 5) or Freetrack (not as responsive)

Hmm yeah, I hadn't considered that. One way to 'cheat it' would be not to make the character animation fluid but have only two or three stages of height. So others would see you move up a bit when you lift a certain amount then another a bit higher and the final at max height. The animation system should be able to make a smooth transition between the stages so it looks fluid to other players but the network traffic would only have to deal with 3 height steps. (maybe even just 2 would work) It would mean a slight difference from your view to your character head position but I assume the movement range will not be alot so shouldn't affect gameplay. (ie being sniped when peeking over something)

How do you play Arma 2\OA ?
EDcase replied to purepassion's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Interesting poll but you left out PvP (I assume that comes under Open Multiplayer) You should have more categories to help BIS determine the strengths and weaknesses. -
Sorry for OT but isn't the guy wearing a girls watch :D (Thanks for the update)

I'm expecting A3 to have 6DoF in choppers ala ToH and I hope it will be in all vehicles. I did try Y (up/down) but found it quite hard to use while sitting in a chair so I duno if it will be very paractical for infantry. I hope its still an option anyway.
