I voted: YES It would be fun but to be honest I don't think it would really be useful at least in a moving vehicle. It might be used for supression but would be almost impossible to shoot accurately while on the move.
-
Yeah, You're talking about 'traction' and I hope its part of the new vehicle handling. PurePassion: That example shows improved collision dynamics but not better handling. It still looks like its glued to the ground. No sliding when turning. I like the flip at 1:56 but that should only happen with a sudden full turn of the wheel.

I'm using onboard at the moment but I remember my old soundblaster had virtual surround that worked very well. Would there be any benefit getting a proper sound card instead of using onboard?

I think the HMZ-T1 is much more exciting (IF IT WORKS AS WELL AS STATED) What it needs to work well: -Good enough res: (1280x720 may be too low) -High refresh rate -Fast/accurate head tracking (or use TrackIR) -ARMA3 to be compatible*** At the moment ARMA2 does not work very well in 3d as the sights become doubled and unusable.

...infiltration... If you don't like it then don't use it. It could be very interesting for gameplay depending how its implemented with AI recognition etc.

OK, here's a thought... Should a friendly that is killed in an enemy vehicle count as a teamkill? I'd say "no" What about if they are in enemy uniform? Perhaps this could be another config option...?
-
Yeah, but BiS have never given vehicles enough power so we'll see how it turns out
-
Looks good but I would like to see less traction on the ground. More skidding and wheel spins on full power.

WHAT!?!?! $80!?!? Thats crazy... Look online and you can find it much cheaper I'm sure. Here in the UK I got it for £30 ($47) from Zavvi and that's including the new map. Yeah, BF3 is fun for faster paced action and it does look awesome even if a bit overdone Hollywood. It certainly won't keep me playing for long but should keep me busy until ARMA3 ;)

Err... no I don't want to be forced to buy another bit of software to have realistic FM in A3. And then what about multiplayer...? Some people using realistic FM against arcade style!?!?! I don't think that will work. As has been stated before in many posts, the only way for this to work and the way BiS has indicated it will work is linked to difficulty setting. Perhaps this thread can move on to other interesting things to argue about...

I would like wind as long as it doesn't affect performance. The ACE method would be fine for me. A constant wind value which could change randomly in direction and strength a few times a minute or so. This constant would offset projectiles once at the start of their flight and the influence would be relative to their caliber and speed. Helicopters and planes would also be pushed in the direction of the wind. The force dependant on wind strength and size of vehicle. AI do not have to deal with wind in vehicles and their projectiles are not affected. Perhaps their aim could be reduced a bit relative to wind strength.

We know ARMA3 will have helicopter FM from ToH (in some form) But what about planes? The fixed wing FM needs some work too...
-
Just want to throw something out here for discussion... I Don't know if this is even possible but: Would you want to have the high fidelity (hard/realistic) flight model from TakeOnHelis incorporated into ARMA3? (as an option of course)

I always found it amazing that people can return to a normal life after experiencing war.

Indeed, the render engine has been improved alot over its development and I do believe that ARMA2 has a basic GI rendering solution already. But as I said before, the limitation with lighting and shadows must run very deep for the lack of improvement in that particular area.
-
Sorry but thats a terrible idea. ToH is a different game altogether and may not appeal to ARMA3 players. I believe BiS stated that the ToH flight model would be used on difficult modes and old FM on easy. Thats the only way to make multiplayer work. Server difficulty settings determine the FM used. wow, The poll is quite conclusive

I'm a vfx artist and would say that lighting accounts for 80-90% perception of realism in an image. ARMA can have many point lights and even spots which you can see at night in town street lights. The problem is that its very limited with shadow casting lights. I believe it can only handle 1 shadow casting light which is the Sun or Moon. In rendering one major effect that adds realism is bounce light (or irradiance mapping) but I doubt it can be implemented into ARMA any time soon. Ambient Occlusion doesn't seem to work well (for me at least) and has quite a big hit on fps. It works well in BF3 tho and that is one of the things that help its lighting. The lighting and shadowing is limited by the engine and its obviously harder to fix than just adding 'deferred lighting' otherwise it would have been done ages ago.

Gore should linked to blood effects level. I don't really care about dismemberment but having bodies flying all over the place when hit by cannon, IED, satchel, shilka, ZSU etc is just plain ridiculous. Ragdoll will not help either. At least have the body vanish in a red mist (if blood is on) or a brown/grey mist (if blood is off). Obviously no kit should remain either.

AAR (After Action Review - replay of your battle in Arma2)
EDcase replied to DZR_Mikhail's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : ADDONS - Configs & Scripting
Great news!!! Good luck for the full AAR project too. That would be so amazing to have working. I wonder if it will be easier in ARMA3....? -
I used to have an X52. Excellent joystick and very good for ARMA2. If you can get it for a good price and it works properly then definitely go for it! When I decided to upgrade I considered the Warthog but it has no twist function so I went for X65 instead. Quite a different experience and takes some time to get used to but allows amazingly fine control. In case people don't know, this joystick does not move. Instead it senses the force you put on the stick. Since its electronic not mechanical you can change the sensitivity on the fly (like with some mice). It also means that you can use it with less desk space as it doesn't lean. Jeez, I sound like a sales rep... I might consider pedals in future but the ones (Thrustmaster) I had before put me off as they weren't very smooth or accurate. wolfbite: can't find any info on a Warthog 2

Yep, UI is one of the main things BiS has to work on in the editor. More options in menus and less typing in fields. Altering parameters of modules should NOT be done with text files that are made outside of the game:j: Make parameters with drop down options or numeric input

Yeah, I'd like to see a cover with something different to a lone soldier in some hollywood action pose or lookin kool in his gear. Some kind of collage that shows the scope of the game with various vehicles and a beautifully large landscape. I wonder what a tallented artist would do in making a cover in the style of the old Bond movie posters.

Replays (record coordinates) - Spectator
EDcase replied to VampyricTyrant's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I'm no expert but isn't all the relevant info going into the server anyway? Just needs to be recorded and since it all comes in via internet it can't be that much. I suppose some things must be calculated client side. Would that be ballistics? If the server data was recorded could it be played back with the rest being calculated on the fly? This would introduce some inaccuracies but they could be ignored. -
Weather affecting vehicle handling and fatigue
EDcase replied to dragon01's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Yeah, would be good to have rain affect car handling and wind affect aircraft handling but won't happen if AI are involved. I propose that these effects only happen to human players and we'll just pretend that AI can handle it. (vehicles can still be bogged/slowed down by mud but no skidding and no wind effect on aircraft.) -
Thats what the CIT will do if people read it and don't double post similar things. The ones with highest votes are most wanted... How could it be simpler or clearer?
