  1. - 12345 : the ID number of the object (find the correct number on the map) - + 10 : the height on which _osama_ will be placed (adjust it to the correct height) And now it's not needed to have a marker placed directly on the object/house. Is there a way to get this to work with arma? I get a missing ; error.
  2. Currently I have a mission where the players must find a civilian police officer in one of several bases and kill him. I designed it so that the officer will spawn in one of the tents of the base. I also placed a couple civilians in each base so that the player must use caution and accuracy to eliminate the police officer. If the player decides to mortar, grenade, or rocket the base randomly he will most likely kill one of the civilians and if that happens, I made it so that the mission ends in failure. The current way I have this setup is this: 1.) created civilians and named them mn1, mn2, wn3, etc. 2.) created trigger:[condition] if not alive mn1 or not alive mn2 or not alive mn3... [activation] end 2 This works well, but my friends are having a very hard time avoiding civilian death and after investing a hour or two into the mission it's very disapointing to have the mission end suddenly. Is what i'd like to do, and am asking for help in doing so is this. I would like to have the player that kills the civilian die instantly with a message saying something like "You killed a civilian, now you know what it feels like ". The mission does have TAG respawn so they won't be dead forever, but atleast it doesn't ruin the mission for the rest of the team. If someone could tell me how to do this I would very much appreciate it.
  3. I am doing this for a mission for armed assault but it seems like everyone on the server isn't seeing the hint "Joe killed a civilian." I tried changing hint to globalChat but it gave me a syntax error: missing ; Is there a way to use the format command in conjunction with with a command other than hint that will display the message to everyone on the server?
  4. *bump* Is this one a stumper or what? I searched the entire section for "briefing" and got zero results. Please help me add pics to my briefings!

To the people who are playing ArmA, how is it?

Well, posting very minor bugs over and over in the wrong threads makes many of us wonder about the way you act - along with your constant hostility to MANY forum users. I think many of us wish you were issued a Back on topic: I've been trying to explain to my friends at work just how cool this game is but i'm at a loss of words when trying to describe how limitless the possibilities are. So last night I created a FRAPS video of me going from vehicle to vehicle driving all over sahari blowing things up. After I showed a couple co-workers I could see the drool spilling out of their mouth. When I told them it only took me a half hour to setup everything in the mission editor they started asking if you could do this or that. Most of the answers were yeah you can do that and they almost started doing the pee-pee dance. If you have some friends that you think would like the game but just don't get it I recommend setting up something in the mission editor and showing them your own little demo. The gaem practicaly sells it's self!

    TrackIR use...

There isn't a snap to option but you can set the dead zone and acceleration as you like. For example I have my X axis (leaning) set so that I have to move my shoulders pretty darn far for it to start leaning, but it leans really fast when I get there. Still playing around with X & Y axis for comfort level.
  7. I have the german digital version aswell and there are inconsistancies. I made sure the SF drivers were gone before installing arma, installed arma without the request of the SF SN. Updated to 1.02 from the morphicon server with no problems or questions. Some people with the digital version are asked "Do you have the DVD version or the DOWNLOAD version of arma?" before continuing. I was never asked this question but the game still works. /my 2c

    Crash To Desktop When Launching

I had the same problem. After many hours of troubleshooting I found that the problem was related to a software conflict with my WIFI software. I suggest that all of you try to launch ARMA while not loading other progs in memory (WIFI software, VIRUS sw). Go into msconfig and prevent most non-windows progs from loading, reboot computer then try launching game again.
  9. For the past couple of weeks I have been enjoying arma without a hitch. Tonight I tried to load it up and it gave me the "ArmA has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." with the following data: Error signature Appname: arma.exe AppVer 1.1.0.5094 ModName: arma.exe ModVer: 1.1.0.5094 Offset: 002b0289 Error report contents: Exception Information Code: 0xc0000005 Flags: 0x00000000 Record: 0x0000000000000 Address 0x00000000006b0289 I uninstalled & reinstalled, tried to launch again and it crashed with the same exact error. There are no other programs running in the background and this is a brand new installation of xp pro. There were no changes to any of my settings between being able to play it and not. After the reinstall I didn't even use the english patch before launching. If reinstalling the game doesn't get me anywhere I don't know what to do. If someone could help solve this I will be very greatful. Game Crashes When Launching

*PROBLEM RESOLVED* ASUS WiFi-AP Solo causes conflicts with ArmA. I hope this thread helps someone else so they don't have to spend hours on it like I did. Thanks for the help yall.
  11. Incredible. Sickboy you ARE the man! I think BIS should hire you, give you a nice salary, and a phat comfy chair (as long as they still let you support their customers as your doing now). Keep up the great work buddy!

    Game Crashes When Launching

No I haven't tried updating the chipset drivers, thanks for the link. I did find a way to get the game going without formatting, but i'm not sure which one fixed the problem. * Prevented wifi software from loading while installing and launching. * A friend suggested running chkdsk 2X right before installation. When/if I find the root cause of this problem I will update this thread. Thanks for the suggestions so far!

    Game Crashes When Launching

I'm not able to edit the profile because the game has not been able to fully launch. The game will only create a profile if it has been loaded after installation. I guess it's time to reinstall windows...

    Game Crashes When Launching

I'm not able to edit the profile because the game has not been able to fully launch. I'm also wondering why the game ran so well for so long and now it's crashing no matter what I do. I found a couple SF utils (remover and updater). The uninstall removes the SF driver so I didn't need the remover. After another fresh install of ArmA ( and a fresh crash) I was able to update the SF driver with the updater - although it didn't solve the problem. Thanks for letting me know what kind of error code that relates to. This PC is brand new so I guess it's possible something is arye. I'll try to find some good diags to test memory and such.

    official complaint to BIS

I used to think player movement felt clunky with my old amd system. Since I upgraded it's much much more "solid", and consistant feeling. Old = AMD 64 4000 2GB PC3200 X1900XTX 512MB New = Intel C2D E6600 2GB PC8500 2x X1900XTX CF MO about this topic is that my only complaints to BIS is well, none. They had their reasons for releasing the game before all of the bugs were fixed but i'm pretty sure their working on that. in the meantime I am having LOADS of fun plaing arma and can't see myself having as much fun with OFP.

    Armed Assault..

Hell yes arma was worth the wait! Now we just have to wait a bit longer for the game to be patched up, and for the community to release excellent mods/missions/islands/units! Playing OFP after playing ARMA is like... sex with... or reading a book on... oh heck it will never be the same again!

To the people who are playing ArmA, how is it?

I don't think the controls are "bad", but they are definatly not comfortable compared to how choppers flew in OFP. I will try to explain... In OFP when you were making your run to fire FFARs for example, if you were not quite lined up you could just adjust your yaw to correct (think rudder control). In ArmA you don't have much side to side correction, you must "bank" or "roll" a bit to correct. After you spend a few hours learing, you will eventualy start to get the hang of it - but it's difficult. That seems to be the biggest change that I noticed, I hope it's a accurate description for ya.

    Petition for Friendly-Fire Options

It should be possible for mission creators to impliment TK punishments. I know it's possible to punish people who kill civilian NPCs in coop missions.

    question about the Dragunov optics

IMO they have the scopes setup like my bench rifle. I have my scope zeroed @ 200 yards, so when I aim at something closer I must aim low. I have seem the same for arma. /my 2c

To the people who are playing ArmA, how is it?

I don't think there is a "official bug thread" so here are the bugs I found so far that I haven't been able to fix myself. 1.) The AI doesn't drive very well still. When they drive cars, or strykers for example they have a hard time going from piont A to point B offroad even if there is no obsticle in the way. This makes it very difficult for them to stay in formation. 2.) The AI doesn't fly very well. I placed a few BMPs in Parisio and had a group of 2 cobras "seek & destroy" a 100M diameter with default formation. One of the HUGE churches crashed into the chopper (stupid churches! 3.) The sound technology that is used to simulate objects blocking/muffling sound waves is too drastic/extreme. For example if I am behind a tree and there is a BMP on the other side driving 50 meteres (or less) away it goes from LOUD to very quiet to LOUD again after it moves past the tree. The same is true for other aircraft, although this seems like it should be a easy tweak for the people who know the code. 4.) AI Issue: When I am the squad leader and I tell me guys to open fire or even engage at will, they don't allways attack - even if they are the ones that notice the enemy. 5.) Not a bug, but I have to agree - I really do miss the way we were able to fly helos. MUCH funner, but oh well. There are other bugs but I forgot them. ArmA is awesome, very difficult to go back and play coop missions with my american friends that don't have arma yet. Keep up the great work BIS.

Is Armed Assault Dead on Arrival?

I'm not trying to flame either but i'm sure your opinion would still be heard if you responded to an existing "gripe thread". I'm sure BIS is listening to the communities opinions.

    Confirmed release dates and countries.

I wonder why the first post hasn't been updated to reflect that Armed Assault is now availible to anyone that can download the digital version??

    AI not obeying orders?

FYI - Be careful not to give out spoilers! I played that same mission last night and I didn't have any of those problems with the AI - In fact, they did exaclty what I wanted. The only problem I noticed with the AI was the driving. I was driving the lead car and the other humvee has a hard time catching up/keeping formation because i'm heavy on the gas. The AI drive slower than Placebo's grandma!

Your ideal PC to play ARMA?

AMD 64 4000 ATI x1900xtx 512 2GB DDR PC3200 2X 72G WD Raptors (10k rpm) Audigy 2 Win XP SP2 Settings: View Distance = 1200 Terrain Detail = High Object Detail = High Texture Detail = High Shade Detail = Very High Post Process Effects = Low AF = Very High Shadow Detail = Disabled AA = High Resolution = 1680X1050 (a little less now) Average FPS in dense forest = 37-45 Average FPS in dense city with combat = 19 - 35 Well, I think I have a pretty beefy system and arma runs o.k. if I have shadows diabled and post-proc set to low. All the other settings don't seem to have too much on my frame rate. The only times that the FPS gets down to the 19 range is when i'm with a squad in a city during combat (when I need all the frames I can get). My point is that I think arma will run on anything above the min req's becasue you can turn down alot of the eye candy. I don't think there is a system that will do what the OP wants it to do, yet.

To the people who are playing ArmA, how is it?

I get to answer my own question and give my own feedback! AMD 64 4000 ATI x1900xtx 512 2GB DDR PC3200 2X 72G WD Raptors (10k rpm) Audigy 2 Win XP SP2 Settings: View Distance = 1200 Terrain Detail = High Object Detail = High Texture Detail = High Shade Detail = Very High Post Process Effects = Low AF = Very High Shadow Detail = Disabled AA = High Resolution = 1680X1050 Average FPS in dense forest = 37-45 Average FPS in dense city with combat = 25 - 35 Overall opinion of the game is that I absolutely love it!!! There are some bugs but some are minor and I will post a list on a bug list if I can't find a solution on my end.
