  1. I asked for help about 6 months ago on this problem

    posted here

    Post

Well i have found out why i am haveing my problem

there is a bug in arma that will not allow any thing over 4 gigs of memory this will cause black screens freezes all kinds of crap so since the people over at arma are not willing to help any one out on this problem at the moment cough 6 months=moment i suggest you take out memory to enjoy this game or dust off your pile of crap pc that runs windows xp or create a dual boot system or stick around for the patch that might fix this problem when ever that will be.

But i chose not play and sell my game and go buy crysis that was much easyer and funner the cryengine 2 makes armas engine look like pong and the mods that will follow wow problem solved.

  2. I was looking around the forum and i have beta tested many games includeing this one and played more then i can count i have never seen more problems with drivers hardware even the game it self i just wanted to point this out you would think when a game makes gold status they would have weeded out atleast some of thease problems i regret buying this game and doubt i will ever buy any games from this company again just my two cents.

  3. this topic is 2 months old and there are alot of vista topics that are current..

Anyway Vista is horrid with this game.. I recommend making a partition and using xp or getting rid of vista until it becomes stable.

vista in general is still a horrible operating system anyway.

this game does not support vista as well and is not indicated as doing so on the box.

I went through these same problems as you guys and the only thing that saved my arse is removing vista and installing xp.. or making a partition for xp and arma.. i spent days on this.. and nothing.. vista is just a terrible OS, especially for this game..

yes I have vista fyi... it's in my box of garbage microsoft products.. like ME...lol.. and the pinnacle that is made for vista, that doesn't work with vista... yea... nice..lol.

also i see you have X-fi.

it caused me some serious conflicts with the 8800 video card.. Idk if it appplies seeing as your using ATI but it's something to take into consideration.. x-fi in general is known as a resource hog and has issues.

I had the exact same sound card as you and I removed it and am using MOBO sound now because of it..

I recommend you get the hotfix for dual cores also when u do get it running.. it's in the "tips and tricks" section.. it helps intel dual cores work better with single core programs "like arma" and  since i installed it i have much less polygonal effects and slow loads in my opinion.

I know this is not related to my problem but i have to stick up for vista i just want to point out that all pc games in the future will be run on direct x 10 and unless your happy playing arma for the rest of your life or any older games

you are going to have to upgrade to vista or pray for mac to jump on the direct x 10 train and i recomend you get the ultimate vers of vista because the rest of them do sux..

o yeah one more thing crysis is just around the corner be happy it suports direct x 9c so you might want to dust off your stolen vista beta .

ps thanks for the info i refuse to down grade my pc to play a game or run a dual os. im sure it can run on my system some how i just gota keep on cryin.

  4. *bump*

Here's my original post on the thread:

I have the exact same problem on Vista x64. I've tried all the steps above, no joy, and I can't seem to find a way to disable the second monitor (I only use the one screen anyway). I'm obviously using Catalyst 7.6, ArmA patch 1.08 and all the latest drivers and windows updates. I've not played the game yet and I bought it when it was released!

    System spec:

    Intel Core 2 6700 running at 3.57Ghz

    Asus P5B WiFi Deluxe

    4GB Kingston Hyperx

    ATI Radeon X1900XT 512MB

    2 x Western Digital WD2500 in RAID-0

    Sound Blaster X-Fi ExtremeMusic

    Sharp LL-191-B 19'' TFT

    Original thread: http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=64690

same story i got the game via direct 2 drive and yet to play it from release date and i can not get any help to fix this so keep this on the front page till they fix this.

  5. so this is a video driver problem or a vista 64 problem or a arma problem i would like to know who to bitch to. and uninstalling all my video drivers sounds kinda lame might do it for fun but there has to be a driver fix some where?

i wasn't recommending it.  i run other apps that most definitely do benefit from catalyst drivers.   for example stock doesn't do well with opengl.

i would guess it's a catalyst driver problem, since arma does not run at all with catalyst and does at least run without catalyst.  i'm not an expert and don't even pretend to sound like one, like those guys who read a bunch of webpages, so i can't say for sure what the problem is.

for right now our best bet is to dual-boot xp (if you have it).  or get an 8800...

but by all means complain to ati. :-)

Thanks i will direct my hate towards ati then if any one can help please respond to this thread and i realy dont feel like seting up a duel boot system vista 64 and ati drivers should suport this video game with out a hitch sorry im venting. pistols.gif

  6. I know that this likely is going to be an issue that I will have to wait for a driver update, but I wanted to be sure as the amount of information I have found of the topic is none.

I am having an issue with the new HD2900xt graphics card running ArmA. I had previously the x1950pro which ran the game fine, but now with this new card the game loads up with a black screen not showing any of the intro graphics, then when the main menu loads, it shows only a grayed outline of some terrain and everything else totally black. If I click on the area where the exit button would be, the game closes fine. Again, I am well aware of the fact that the card is very new, but I just wanted to be sure this wasn't an issue addressed with other hardware setups.

    My PC is as follows:

    Core 2 Duo e6600

    4Gb DDR2

    HD2900xt ATi

    Vista Ultimate 64-bit

This game did run fine on the other card, so vista compatibility seemed ok. Thank you in advance for your assitance.

I have the same problem it is driveing me mad crazy_o.gif
