  1. Since I feel like an idiot now, I shall just wander off to play something... >_> Thank you for the reply though. Digit ==== Forum fly...
  2. Hi all, does anyone know if there is a version that is compatible with 1.05? Cheers, Digit ==== Forum fly...
  3. So the mission is called Armoured Battallion, I think it's around 5/6 in the list. I'm not sure, basically it's the first one you play where you command a group of tanks. You have to attack one base, and then secure and hold another. First of all, how do you command your tanks? I think I've managed to get the basic movement and targetting down, but every now and then nothing responds. For example, I will say "Left" and then when I go to let go, my tank just keeps turning left. Eventually I need to press Backspace twice (to open and close the radio menu) and suddenly all the commands I have entered, are queued up, and repeated in quick succession. I have no other controllers plugged into my PC. Second, how do you target something and tell your tank to open fire? I, for example, hold down space which brings up a white crosshair on the HUD, it has a distance meter on it and small cross in the middle. As I mouse over things, their name appears. Then I hold down the right mouse button, and my view zooms in ever so slightly, and my guy says, "Target that X at 7 o'clock.", where X is the unit. Then I hit CTRL and the vehicle opens fire. "F" will change ammo/weapon. The problem is, for a reason I cannot deduce, enemy infantry, which are dead, show up as red text still, and my tank will continue to fire on a corpse until there is no more ammo. Normally they will report, "I got him!" and that's that, target eliminated. Lastly, it would really help if someone could suggest a common and/or easily used key config for this, because I tried rebinding controls in the options menu, after the defaults were found to be all over the keyboard, but it seems like a very hit/miss affair. By the time I have actually gotten someone to finally target an AT soldier, he has launched his rocket and has almost reloaded his second. It's ridiculous. In addition, if my tank gets SLIGHTLY damaged, my crew bails. Well, thanks a lot guys... you losers. >_> Any help or advice appreciated, perhaps I am overlooking something, but seriously, compared to piloting and targetting with a chopper, this is crazily difficult to get to grips with. Please fix the AI

I'm not certain, as I've never had much to do with AI, but I believe that in smaller areas the developers can place nodes that the AI recognises as 'Cover Node', 'Destroyable Node' etc etc. I would imagine that the AI in Vegas has to be tailored to each level. We saw how the general AI handled levels in Rainbow Six, and it was terrible. In AA the environments are so huge that using AI nodes is probably impractical due to the time it would take, plus it would also limit user made content as they would need to understand and include their own nodes. Currently you can whack anything down and the AI recognises cover and so forth. That's my 2c anyhoo. Cheers! Digit ==== Forum fly... P.S. In response to Latinmans post about AI levels. I know how this works in some other games, not sure if it is implemented in AA or not: There are normally levels of AI and they each take orders and give orders to the different levels. So at the top you have the global AI. This AI sees everything in the level and the battlefield. It knows it's objectives as specified by the game rules, and orders units around. The unit AI receives orders from the global AI and complies with them within their own restrictions. What I mean is, that if the unit AI sees another enemy unit, it will take cover, or attack or whatever it's AI tells it to do, whilst still obeying the global AI's main command of 'Capture the Flag' or 'Guard Unit X'. There could be more layers, or individual layers for vehicles, or tanks/jets etc. But this AI was used in Battlefield 1942, and it has it's drawbacks, as you may have noticed the AI in those games just standing around doing nothing. That's because there were not enough CPU cycles assigned to the AI routines at the start of the game (perhaps because the user had a low system spec or what have you) and the global AI just hasn't gotten around to AI#46 out of 64 yet.
  5. Ok thanks very much for the reply about the performance. That's very nice to know. My copy will arrive shortly and I am holding off buying a new PC until Jan/Feb when I get back from my Christmas hols in the UK. This is pretty much THE game I am waiting for, and it would really rain on my parade if I couldn't actually play it when it arrived hehe. Also thanks to the poster about the AI tests, that was a very interesting read. Cheers! Digit ==== Forum fly...
  6. Heyas, Maybe someone who has Arma could give me some insight on the performance. I did a quick search and didn't find anything of use The FAQ says: -What are the minimum specs? 2Ghz CPU, 512MB of RAM, 128MB video card is the minimum spec. Recommended are: 3Ghz, 1GB RAM, 256MB video card. My specs are 3.4 Pentium 4. 1GB RAM Ati Mobility 9800 (256Mb) It's a Dell Inspiron Gen 1 Laptop, but maybe someone has a desktop with similar specs, and can offer some thoughts on your performance? (screenshot maybe). Thanks for any help, like I said I didn't want to start a whole new thread for this, so sorry if it's in the wrong place. Cheers, Digit ==== Forum fly...
