I'm having a lan party soon and i managed to convince everyone to have some fun "discovering" arma2. We are maybe 2-3 who actually played and own the game and i would like to propare them a unique experience using Arma2Free (i can't ask them to buy the game before they try it) Unfortunately sifting through armahoic and finding missions that work with A2Free is a royal pain in the ass, so many co op missions today are ACE only. Is there a website that act as a repository of Arma2Free compatible missions? And my secondary question, is there a version of the MCC (Mission Control Centre) that is addon free? (no CBA) and compatible with Arma2Free? -
Has anyone made a "hunting" game in Arma?

I used to like to chill with a few friends in deer hunter, it was more sightseeing than anything. Has anyone made some kind of animal hunting mission? Point system for each animal retrieved, a few vehicles to drive around chernarus, a small selection of civilian weapons, that sort of stuff. I'm not big into animal hunting IRL, but hey it's hurting no one in a game. -

1. Definitely, if they don't actually have a woman working at BIS. 2. What's this obsession with women moving differently than men, in the street maybe but in combat situation? Most games out there record a single animation set for men and women and it works just fine. 3.See point two, the MODEL is different, but the underlying bone structure (and i'm not talking anatomy, i mean animation bones) is nearly identical. Wether your character is a huge troll or a dwarf, as long as the skeleton is identical they can use the same animations 90% of the time.

I wouldn't mind if ARMA3 did what any sensible modern games do today, stop letting clients run part of the simulation, only the server should be autoritative, the client should be limited by sending position update and shooting, not participating in the game logic. -
I would like to point out something. There is a point when it comes to realism where not only it stops to be fun, but actually hinder the gameplay. Let's not forget about this.

Adding an existing voice into the player useable voices

I decompressed the dubbingradio_e.pbo file in arrowhead and noticed that there was two voices for each male voices: male01: -Male01EN -Male01TK which i assume are for the "us" and takistani version of each voices but there is a sixth voice that isn't currently selectable: -Female01TK -Female01EN the Taki version appears to be uncomplete but i could just copy the US version over it, any idea how i could make it work? -
My point is fairly simple, the game currently allow players to pick a face and a voice in their profile that will be the one they are seen as in multiplayer. Arma 1 used to have a female voice available in the profile and there are some female voices in the game i believe that cannot be assigned to a player either (why? it's anybody's guess). If Arma3 continue the tradition of allowing players to select a face, use a custom face/hands texture, and select the voice they want to use, there should at least be one female face or more, one of these faces should support custom face/hands texture and also one, or more female voices. Of course mods can add it and already have in the past (i'm not sure about the voices tho) but this should come standard in the game, you shouldn't need a mod to get a simple feature like this, when i choose the custom male face in the game i am reasonably confident that it will work on every arma servers out there.

It's a minor problem really, nearly every games out there use the same skeleton for male and female playermodel and the same animations (check half life 2 and it's numerous custom player models, most of them recycle the default animations and are skinned to the default skeleton)

It has nothing to do with the media, women in combat gears is nothing new in video games (check rainbow six vegas 2, again), it's just that BIS, for some obscure reason isn't bothering to do it.

The arguments you usually see here stem from milsim enthusiasts who adhere to the entire US military doctrin, rather than pick from it what is good and productive for playing and experiencing a milsim and discard what is the product if a hyper masculine environment, they simply take the whole thing, or none of it. It's a good thing that Arma3 is set in a hypothetic future, this gives room to the designers, and hopefully will separate us from the usual bullshit that you tend to encounter when depicting current and past military bodies. I have nothing against sticking to good ideas that stem from the military, they made war for decades, they certainy know a thing or two about it, the standard operation manuals and the like are all good reading materials for playing milsim games. The doctrine as a whole contain a lot that could be improved and result of traditionalism, that the army as a whole is an entity that takes very little input from the rest of the society and tend to live by it's own rules. I'm going to link here the absolutely exellent character customisation system that was used in ranbow six vegas 2, granted it MIGHT be a little too much for Arma3, i think it's the sort of things BIS should look into.

How would you go about making a new player voice

I agree, as it stands the AI system only handle the ground properly, there should be some system of noded interiors where if the AI consider you are inside the building it first looks for the location of a door and once it found it switch to node based navigation inside. Please more complex interiors if possible? most Arma OA buildings (excepted a few special ones) are one or two rooms at best per floor, excepted the takistan houses they also are mostly bare inside. I'm wishing for a cover system but i'm not holding my breath

You gota love when the argument of "animations" is brought up, nearly every games out there use the same skeleton and animations for men and women and it's working just fine.

I'm not sure if you guys realise but... a lot of the arma serie "vets" sound very smug and condescending... a bit like a bunch of old peoples watching the youngsters do things they can't understand. I'm one of those oldies myself, and sadly i hardly play OFP/Arma anymore because, even if i love the game, this game has a real problem at giving it back. Making the mission of your dream is atrocious, the engine and editor is entirely geared toward macro gestion and because of this, there is no way to orchestrate any kind of mini events or making the player feel he lived something special. In the end i'm mostly playing Team Fortress 2... I really want to play Arma, i bought every DLCs and even considered getting a VBS2 license. But yeah Arma is a but like this cute but vicious animal, you want to hug it and it claw at your face.

It's getting worse because BIS keep doing the same mistakes over and over. How many times are they going to pull out the reloadable AT4 launcher thing, so the first thing modders will do is to make a single shot version? I don't give a damn about driving tanks into shipping containers, this is Arma, not Garry's mod. And the female soldiers (sorry, FACES, and voice because that's all that is really needed on a character wearing bulky gears, it's hardly asking for the moon considering Arma 1 had a female voice.) are just one more in the long list of things that BIS "should" do instead of focusing so much on polishing their tank textures.

Is there any way to access the voice(s) in the profile editor? I can't seems to be able to even set it through scripts either. Good job on this i'm just thinking that unless we can assign the proper voice too there won't be a lot of servers offering this option. -

Ah here we go again the mysoginist crowd rallying behind the "realism" argument. Because it is realistic doesn't mean it has to be implemented in the game, especially if it's ANNOYING. I believe i've been requesting this for ... well since the flashpoint days, one female face for players and npcs, that support custom skin, and one voice. Is it asking this much? Seriously BIS, you want more buyers? try to cater to the few women who are in your community.

I mean we already have pretty much everything we could want and what we don't have are VBS features which we simply aren't going to get. Better gaphics? Who cares, the current engine still put today's computers on their knees. So what is there going to be if not "more of the same"? I was kinda hoping that with arrowhead and it's DLCs Bohemia was settling on using OA as a core, always updated engine and release DLCs regularly to increase the value of the game more and more. Arma3 that means modders start from scratch again, and that means all the previous content is useless, again. So .. what is the good reason this time that makes Arma3 something that couldn't have been an engine update + an epic DLC? -
