Your "shots" killed us ;)
-
dang I totally forgot about it

God knew you would take that choice ;) It's retarded to argue about this theory (looks like calvin's predestination theory to me) The theory makes some sense but IMHO it's rubbish. You either belive it or not. There is no way to prove or disprove it as long as you can't prove gods existence or unexistence ;)

ever thought about how those warning systems get developed? I'm sure there was some technology used that was discovered thanks to space exploration efforts... IMHO your argument is pretty pointless. Also the chances that there would be a tsunami warning system in the region if there was no cassini-huygens mission are zero. The money would have been spend otherwise... maybe on something more stupid. It's doesn't lack the money for those systems as you see now. There was just no political will to give money for it. Also nobody really demanded one. The UN said something about tsumani risks some years ago IIRC but the countries themselfs did not take it very seriously.

Aditionally to what denoir said I can add that the "camera" they used wasn't a normalo cheap camera. It had to be some ultra resistant gallium arsenide hardened sensor thingy that is extremly expensive and difficult to handle (and it was developed almost 10 year ago). Normal cameras wouldn't survive titan long enough to take useable pictures. Furthermore you wouldn't see much on normal pictures because it's quite dark up there. Also titan's athmosphere doesn't allow much bandwidth to transmit data to cassini and the priority was on other data than on pictures. The marsian athmosphere allowed higher bandwidth transmissions ans longer periods to do so. They also could use "regular" camera technology on mars.

you guys should maybe consider doing such stuff on sathurday too. I often don't have time on sunday evening... not to mention wednesday

By definition, it has nothing to do with actively denying the existence of gods. The word people should use for someone who denies the existence of gods, should be something like "anti-theist". uhmm well it should maybe be anti-theists but those people generally counted as atheist too. Every definition that I found in credible sources states that atheism inculdes those that actively deny the existence of god. Still failure is IMHO a totally wrong term for it. Well that's only because you seem to view a religion as something special. I don't. Religion is just a philosophy IMHO. Some religions have lots of followers and therefore develop code of conducts for everyday life and make institutions. These things make it easier for normal people to follow the religous principles and help administrating it. But for me those things have nothing to do with the religion itself. And faith is just a strong conviction that the philosphy of one's religion is the true one - without being able to objectively prove it. For me the concept of faith is what I find repellent about the most religions. It contradicts with everything I have learnt in my humanistic education.

Didn't see anyone comment this, but that is a common, but poor definition. An atheist can deny the existence of gods/deities/"higher powers", but the key element in atheism is the absence of faith. Atheism doesn't actually deny the existence of deities, unless you interpret the "failure" to believe in a certain deity's existence as denying its existence. Well I don't totally agree. The word atheism defines clearly what it means. it comes from Greek atheos, godless : a-, without; + theos, god Atheism is defined by disbelief in or dening of the existence of god(s). It can be both. Without believing in god there is no sense to have faith in god too. I don't understand how one can see it as "failure" - "failre" has a devaluating touch but how can it be a failure (in the sense of not noticing the obvious) to not believe in something that is nothing more a theory? An atheist can very well belive in other things... like principles or values (human reason, human rights, democratic values for example) or something like the philosophy of the stoa (belief in an natural and universal reason - the logos - that is in everything and puts order in natural events). Atheism denies the existence of gods/deities but it doesn't deny a philosophical view on life and believe in "metaphysical" things.

Personally I was mostly impressed by the performance of Natalie Portman. And I agree... This movie doesn't need a sequel... as much as I'd like to see more of Natalie Portman in movies ;) Aside from the Star Wars series her acting is really impressing.

If I would scientifically analyse the anything that is covered by religion I would take the viewpoint of an agnostic too... but if you ask me what I believe... then my terribly biased opinion is the atheistic one, well I go a bit further than classical atheists but I don't know any term for it.. so I see it as atheism close to nihilism ;)
-
Well consider the teperature there. It's fucking cold. And that means every acohol would freeze anyway.
-
Oh. Anyway I'd say nihilism is a philosophy rathar than a religion. Well all religion is philosphy for me. I see no special status for religion there. (Not to confuse with religious institutions) Religion is an attempt to explain the unexplainable... and deriving from that "philosophy" people elaborate codes of conduct or similar things. But the heart of every religion is a phlosophical belief.
-
hmm not sure if that got misunderstood... what I had written was about me ;)
-
Atheism kinda... close to nihilism though....
-
Well it's your own decission. It's not up to the guys that wounded you to decide wheather you should be killed or not. Right?

I have no problem with military docus too but I find a commet like "all war. all the time" pretty cynical... you always have to consider that what you find so "w00t" is killing people. Docus are interesting but they are serious too... take it with some respect.

yeah well afaik there never was an official release of JAM Nam Pack 2 which was announced by SEB team though. It's a pity Well now I hope for Unsung addons now for state of the art nam stuff because it appears SEB is dead too along with BAS.

I use it very often. For instance to get a list of my mp3 folder files ;) -
Am I the only one who finds this subtitle cynical?

sure there is a swiss navy! Royal Swiss Navy and on a more serious note: swissnavy.ch
-
Well I doubt there will be Swiss as their own civilisation but there could be Swiss mercs hopefully. This would be realistic because there were many Swiss Mercs in the Armies around 15th to 18th century. And whoever made the commend that Swiss avoiding war. Swiss neutrality was first recognized in 1815. So before the Swiss were not neutral officially.

of course it's not free in the end. Everyone pays his part for it. But the idea of it is that anyone can get his surgery or treatment he needs no matter how much money he has and he won't run into dept because of it. It's the principle of offering treatment to those that need it and not only to those that can afford it.

Llauma on his way to kill some ruskies... (fly by shot from seagull) Was a good game

they use such things in the pacific. It's actually quite easy to predict and detect tsunamis early enough to warn most places hours before a Tsunami reaches them. But it's a matter of cooperation and money between those countries. And from both they don't have very much in the now affected region.
-
Well... appart from indonesia I'm not sure if people did actually notice the quake itself in Thailand or Sri Lanka. I guess that's too far away. Also those countries aren't very rich and there is no Tsunami warning system in place in the region. Also they have floods and landslides almost every year in the Monsun season. I can imagine their ressources are barley enough to reconstruct the dammage caused from those anual events (they happened this year too). I guess they need help for putting warning systems in place. Unfortunatly nobody seems to help as long as no catastrophy happens.
