  2. TRUFORM support for player models... maybe trees and bushes too? Many games are already supporting Truform via a patch and ATI says it's fairly easy to add Truform to a title. (Edited by Desloc at 12:41 pm on Dec. 5, 2001)

ATI Radeon 64 MB DDR vs ATI Radeon 8500

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Quote: from MrLaggy on 4:45 pm on Dec. 22, 2001 But the 7500 doesn't support DX8 pixel and vertex shaders, so while I would probably buy it rather than a Radeon-64 I wouldn't see any point in swapping a Radeon-64 for it unless I could get one for the same price. And there's not that much point in upgrading to a Radeon-8500 either until more games come out using the DX8-specific features.<span id='postcolor'> That's the point of purchasing the 7500. By the time 'most games' have PS 1.1-1.4 support I'll have a new Radeon 9500LE 128meg

    Helis and decrease of altitude

Yup, the joystick does offer some nice altitude and quick Maybe a dead zone for the 'throttle' can be introduced to easily maintain level flight.

ATI Radeon 64 MB DDR vs ATI Radeon 8500

Comparing a Radeon64ddr and a 8500 are like night and day in performance. I picked up a Radeon 7500 after selling my Radeon64ddr for the same price, $200CAN Frame rate and fill rate are much better clocked at 290/230 compared to 183/183. I have my 7500(retail) clocked to 330/260 and it flies!

    SDK

If I were BIS, I wouldn't release a SDK... yet, if at all. VBS is just one reason and it's a good one. As with, say the Half-Life engine, an SDK helped sales via the development of Counter-Strike. CS was better than Half-Life and TFC according to the vast number of players and servers. Valve even bought the rights to CS. My guess is that they will stop development of TF2 in favor of CS2. And when did Valve release it's SDK? Not right away. Heck, if they designed CS themselves they may have never released the SDK at all. What BIS has in OFP is good already and they know it. They don't need Mods to sell their software. Red Hammer is another reason. They make the Mods, they make the money. (Edited by Desloc at 5:25 am on Dec. 17, 2001)

    Unbelievable!

Install VIA drivers(4.36) in safe mode. Reboot. Install DX 8.1 in safe mode. Reboot.

    Aviation Suggestions!

People are buying this software because it's a multi-aspected Engagement Sim. Even the infantry has issues that have to be worked out. I agree that flight and vehicle physics/realism can be improved greatly. Maybe peeps are afraid on flying Go to a local flight school, take a introductory flight and you'll understand the freedom of being airborne. Do you think that VBS comes with these flight dynamics? BIS has them and should share (Edited by Desloc at 6:45 am on Dec. 14, 2001) (Edited by Desloc at 6:46 am on Dec. 14, 2001)

    Radeon Problems

Are you saying that in normal D3D mode, W-Buffer enabled, that you don't see the road flickering in the distance? I find that D3D T&L mode looks much nicer than normal D3D, but runs slower and lags when zooming. W-Buffer doesn't work at all in D3D T&L... vehicles sink into the ground

    Radeon Problems

Disable W-Buffer and... if you have a Tweaker installed, disable Hierarchical Z.

Many Radeon users would argue otherwise, and that's ATI's first implementation of SmoothVision. As for CS... that's Valves fault for adding Truform to it's weapon models, not ATI's. The hostage and scientist models in CS look absolutely awesome with Truform. Developers decide what models get Truform and what models do not. If you never saw a gun using Truform, which is an incorrect use of the technology, you'd also be impressed.

Sorry, I was refering to DX 8.1 pixel shaders... http://www.nvnews.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=002164 http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1504&p=3 Yes, the GF3 Ti500 is DX8.1 compliant.

Old news... been fixed with newest drivers. It doesn't represent their hardware in any way or form. GF Ti500 - great card, very fast, if not the fastest card on the market. It's based on one year old tech and is only DX8 compatible. Most expensive card you can buy. Radeon 8500- great card, very fast. New tech based on DX 8.1. Drivers are fair(XP) to good(98) and will only get better. This card has only been out for a month and is cheaper than the competition's flagship product. Each card has pluses and minuses, arguing which is better is sort of fultile. So GF2/3 users should relax, you have a very good card. And don't worry, if OFP adds Truform, we'll post the screenies for ya

I didn't mean to upset all those NVidia user without Truform. It's a great tech, and it's easy for delevopers to implement. Smoother models result in more realism... period. Maybe reading this will help Nvidia users ease their pain... http://www.theinquirer.net/05120104.htm

    Unresolved w buffer issues

I know with the Radeon driver you have to have the W-Buffer enabled before you can have it enabled in game. Does your Nvidia driver support W-Buffer by default or do you have to use a tweaker to enable it?

The speed hit is minimum as there are different amounts of Truform that can be applied... like a LOD slider. Â All Radeon cards can support Truform in software via drivers. The 8500 does it in hardware. It's funny how so many Nvidia users get their knickers in a knot over ATI's tech. Â (Edited by Desloc at 11:12 pm on Dec. 5, 2001)

OFP player models would look incredible Truformed... period. But you don't have a ATI card, so why should you care, right? If you owned a Radeon, or if you'd seen screens of Truform in action you may be singing a different tune. (Edited by Desloc at 1:00 pm on Dec. 5, 2001)
