Greetings to everyone who's been enjoying Operation Flashpoint,
I thought I should get this tread started as I now wonder how many
others are being affected like me.
I have been and OFP fan since the original early release and I have played
the game using version 1.2 + 1.3 + 1.4
Allow me to explain my ability to test software. I built a multi boot computer system that has 3 primary HDD's and 4 backup HDD's allowing me a true multi boot Operating Systems. This allows me to test software on several OS's at the push of the HDD switcher and using this capability I have been able to do lot's of beta testing, trouble shooting and bug reporting. So here is the BUG report. I use the following.
System AMD 1.3 GHZ - Memory 512 MB 2100 DDR - Video gForce 3 - Sound Blaster Audigy
HDD 1 - OS is: Windows XP
HDD 2 - OS is Windows ME
HDD 3 - OS is Windows 98
HDD 4 - OS is Linux
Here is the BUG REPORT - MULTI PLAYER HOSTING SETUP:
"MULTIPLAYER" setup menu I click on "SETUP" then it refuses to open the
next interface, it simply flashes really quickly like it's trying to open
and simply never does no matter how many time you click the SETUP button. I
can see faintly behind what does flash up the words "Creating Server" but
the actual next screen that is supposed to open allowing you to select MAPS
and MISSION simply never opens.
Here is the BUG REPORT - GAME LOCKUP:
During LAN play my Windows XP system locked up 3 times in less then 1 hour.
Each time is was right when I died after the HOST had died and the game was
basically over the Window XP machine froze as stated 3 times. During the
part where the HOST would reset us for a NEW Game.
Now this is HIGHLY unusually for XP, which I have been running for 4 months
flawlessly.
NOTES about both bugs: My multi boot system and my home game LAN I was able
to see that Windows 98 + ME where unaffected by both of these bugs.
One small work around those of you like me who now prefer the stability and
power of XP over any prior OS is to setup the Operation Flashpoint.exe to
emulate Win98/ME mode this prevented and lockups in XP but did nothing to
fix the in ability to setup a multi player game or act as host.
CONCLUSIONS:
1) The game has never locked up in any prior version of OFP on me ever.
2) This issue I am highly suspicious is related to the Windows XP Operating
System.
