I personally would hold off on upgrading your GFX card unless its either a DX10 one, or you wait until the DX10 ones have come down a little. I dont think itll be worth spending any money on a card that will most certainly have a low life expectancy. I spent a fortune on my rig SOLEY for this game, which is why im to stubborn to lower my settings from high. Games going on the shelf until its fixed . Have faith in BIS .

It may be the versions that have been updated, to confirm, i am recieving a significent performance decrease from the EURO update from 1.04 to 1.05: Please both decrease and increase people, post your PC specification to see if we can find a common point, also post what version you patched from and which patch you used, no point in having aload of people say "omg mine sucks" "omg mine rocks" as that wont get us anywhere. My specs: AMD X2 Dual-Core 4200+ 2gig Corsair RAM 8800GTS 640mb 160gig SATAII (300) HDD with 16mb cache, NCQ and 4ms read/write speed. XP SP2 Lets work the problem peeps .

Unfortunatley, i concur . Alot less performance, its a shame really. High spec pc, and time to lower graphics once again .

As of this moment it is 14:26 in good old (surprisingly) sunny Britain .

Before some of you get angry as theres been aload of posts about CoolBits ect, but i did search and couldent find an answer to my query, and i know some others have the same question so this may answer it for a few peeps. My question is, how do i use it, i particularly want to do this "render frames ahead 0" thing people are talking about. I have downloaded it, added the registery file, that seems to be it, i cant find any options anywhere to do anything with it, any ideas? I read one solution earlier which didnt work, was refering to the 7 series NVidia cards and classic control panel. I am using an 8800GTS and dont really have a classic control panel with our drivers. Any help greatly appritiated. TheSprog .

Render frames ahead crashed my game before boot and inturn, my PC, i advice not doing it.

OMG ITS BACK, MY BELOVED CLASSIC CP IS BACK! Thanks Guba, coulda kissed the monitor when i saw that. My render frames ahead was at 3? now its 0 .

Oh yeah of course im glad u posted it heh. Just be interesting to know how the 8800 users do it .

Lowering gfx settings is all you can do really. Make sure no CPU/RAM intensive programs are running in the background. The games sluggish even for me, and my PCs of a high spec, so i dunno . -EDIT- Main killers are AA, Shadow details, and View distance.

Thanks for screenshot, however we just dont have it with the 8800 .

How VSync works, and why people loathe it.
CoolSprog replied to Aurvan's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
good post, hopefully help people understand the workins of the dreaded Vsync better . Thanks for sharing matey -
The problem is simple guys, and also frustrating. Its an FPS issue, when you iron up or zoom on areas of intense rendering (great example, heavy foliage) aiming becomes next to impossible. This game is very hard to guage and test graphics settings. If you goto the level editor, stick yourself on the middle of the airfield and press "Preview" youll be loving it, very high FPS, aiming is a doddle. The mistake would be to assume its all sorted and go play. Unfortunatley you have to account for areas of dense foliage, citys (all act differently), ect. This would be my recommendation: Goto the level editor, and stick your player in the city "Benoma". I have found this city (more of a little town) to be highly graphical and stressing on the CPU/GFX, try aiming with irons/scope/dots at the buildings, the hills, foliage, walk through the town, try bringing the sights up randomly as if it were hostile, and most of all, walk through the heavily bushed area next to it, i think if you can get your mouse lag sorted in this place, youll be laughing everywhere else. Like i said above however, the only way to resolve it is by sacrificing graphics settings, Shadows and AA are 2 of the main culprits for poor performance. Hope this helps you folks. CoolSprog Oh, 1 last thing, i know alot of you are saying "My FPS is fine but i have mouse lag", your FPS might be fine normally, but it seems more strainful when you stick the sights up, could be because you are zooming in on things, i COULD run the game on "Very High" across the board, perfectly fine, but when i iron up i would simply never land a hit with 1.2 week aiming delay.

I personally, have put the campaign on hold until bugs are fixed, as at the moment its a total joke. Im not that far in and so far: Sanitry Operations: some of the enemys fled, god knows where, so i had to keep restarting until all were killed before they could run. Ammunition Dumps: i had to go on a hunting spree because the special forces that were supposed to be attacking the base i was defending, decided to camp out in a field by the near town. Awakening: My main objective was to get into a truck, and go collect bravo squad. Upon getting there Bravo squad decided to run the near 2k marathon, leaving me to return back to base with an empty truck, where i was then greeted with a "mission complete". All this coupled along side waypoints not updating, loss of sound, AI refusing to follow orders, ect, until these bugs are fixed the story line just wont ever match upto OFPs amazingly immersive one. Your comments folks? CoolSprog

Firstly, i havent read any GOOD comments in terms of performance reguarding the 8800GTS/X cards, this CAN be because of drivers as the 8800 series has an entirely seperate driver set from the other NVidia cards. Now i run Arma in "Very High" with AA turned off, as my resolution is at 1440x900, and anti-anistrophic(?) turned to very high also. In desert/open areas the game runs, well i dunno the FPS but its anywhere between 60 and 100000000000 coz i cant tell hehe. In towns/citys, it can get slightly sluggish but its liveable. However, foliage, those beautiful bushes and trees, where you can see every leaf, wonderful stuff, except it sends my PC into a cardiac trying to walk through/past one. If i aim at one my overheat alarm will go off within 5-10 seconds. My reasons for running it in very high is because the performance is the same in "High", default or lower wields better results but my ignorance stops me running it any lower, as i spent a fortune on this rig soley for Arma, the game ive been waiting for for as long as i can remember. The most frustrating part is not knowing if im going to beable to play a mission or not, because if theres dense foliage, i will never land a shot with a good 3 second delay on my irons. My spec: AMD 4200 Dual-Core 1mb Cache. 8800GTS 640mb (Overclocked using Peg Link Mode in bios). Windows XP SP2. Latest NVidia drivers. SATA 2 (SATA300) With NCQ, 16mb Cache and 4.6ms (Very good hard drive, and epensive ) 87gig free space, and is a seperate drive from my OS drive. 2GIG DDR 800mhz. Go faster stripes (joke ) Hope this helps some of you .

I think you will find it patches all versions to v1.05 Nice changes coming! Thanks. Seems odd that version 1.40 will be upgraded to 1.05 heh. Ah well heres hoping for improvements, and that new sexy ironsites improvment .
-
Just out of interest is this the patch for the UK version aswell? or just earlier releases like DE and FR ect? As the UK version is currently 1.40. Thanks, CoolSprog .
-
Well, ive been making alot of single question posts lately so i appologise. I was just wondering if, for example, you were to engage a squad, and you kill there officer, does there squad become less organised? If not i was wondering if that would be an idea for the suggesgion list, what do you guys think (unless its already a feature, then theres nothing to discuss hehe) . CoolSprog.
-
Am a little confused. Is there a patch coming from the UK 1.4 version? or the other versions?
-
Yeah us 8800 users must suffer the worst set of drivers in existance. I cant even run .avi videos unless i watch em in black and white or i get a bluescreen reboot. And the worse part is NVidia cant be botherd sorting us out because there to busy making Vista and DX10 drivers, so we are abandoned!!!! .
-
But ppl with far far lesser pc's are running it fine??? Yeah im not overlly happy with how it plays on my PC, however i got it alot better than most so i cant complain. It seems the poster has it real bad, maybe a problem with the Quad Core CPU, it runs badly with dual-cores as it is. I would personally try sticking the game to run on 1 core, seeing if those problems persist.
-
For any present day game to not run full quality on a system like that is a crime lol. However, we know ARMA is buggy, and i think when fixes optamize it a little more youll be flying. My spec: 4200 64bit dual-core 8800GTS 2gig RAM not quite as good as urs, running everything in high, 1440x900, AA disabled (dont really need it with that res), and anti anistrophic at very high. Works ok, aiming is hard in some places, and running into or zooming into some higher res bushes puts my PC into a cardiac. Roll on patches ey .

Shoot. Was supposed to stick this under General. Can a mod please move it there, or in a more suited location, or leave it here if you like hehe im easy. Sorry about that.
-
Hey alot of you gonna think im stupid, but i really dunno what this is so . What is "Post Processing"? Ive looked it up but couldent find what it means in terms of games, under graphics settings, ect. Thanks if your the one to answer my pointless question, as it may help me optamize my performance heh. CoolSprog .
-
Thanks alot guys, that helps, im guessing thats a bit of a performance nuker then heh, will begin tweaking, who woulda thought a system like mine would need to tweak so badly .
