  1. Mate, I did competition rowing. Not only is there an issue holding the gun out like that, there is an issue with the strain the wrist is going under. Why is it always presumed that soldiers have 'superhuman abilities over that and above civilians'?!

Go outside attach some weight to your garden spade and try running around like that. Keep trying it for a month and see if you still think it's a good idea! Sure one could forseeably do it but humans are inclined to take the easy option confused_o.gif

  2. Nice pick with the screenshot.

Anyone running like that with a light machine gun must be superman. The things are damn heavy, you couldn't hold onr up like that for much more than 5 seconds, let alone sprint like that! Anyone thats done archery will probably attest to that.

  3. Unfortunately reviews like this show the complete moronity of pc magazines looking for 'flash' titles.

10 years from now, PC games will have developed to such an extent that nothing will be new - not much is now. Much like 10 years ago was seing the dawn of the 3d Graphics age - so everything was new and exciting. You now have game generes covering just about everything. Which is a paradox, how can u create something totally new if it's already been done!

For games like ArmA, that model real world tactical stuff, emphasis will switch more and more away from the environment and type of game play to enhancing an already solid product. Games will be released with upgrades to make use of new PC technology, rather than expanding into a totally new area - because engines will allow games to branch off into many areas whilst still being the same game.

Game 2 is like this, ArmA is a proving ground for some of the concepts of Game two, such as loading only relevant portions of area, dynamic environments, wildlife, hitpoints and animations. Flashpoint was a revolution when it occured because nothing else came close. Flashpoints modelled a whole new area of accessable gaming to military gaming fans. It's like loosing your virginity - it only happens once - someone forgot to tell these guys that. It's sad in a way because the obvious is that once a genre is entered into, it can't be entered into twice because it's already been done, it can only be improved, a-la the virginity comparison, something that these reviewers attention obviously needs to be drawn to.

ArmA is a very important stepping stone to Game 2. It will test the community that will come up with a trend and areas that can make a solid difference that will be included in Game 2. many areas have been improved and no doubt have taught the developers something about game two. Gauging how we the consumers use their product will provide insight on how to approach the inevitability of the gaming future. And it looks as though BIS has a VERY commanding lead. Simply put, an engine that created such a huge environment, could also, feasably turn out what those junkie SWAT / Rainbow 6 Type games allow and eclipse them by shear variety.

In ArmA's case it definitely is a situation of 'Don't judge a book by it's cover'. And with that knowledge it's just how short sighted some of the consumer games are with face value graphics and their consumer face value reviewers are. Trapped in a world with no clue on where gaming is going.

ArmA will help BIS Pave the way for their own future. When what is being churned out in recent years past & now becomes extinct and reviewers are begging for a part of the action from the people they dissed 5 years ago but now have to suck up, as the games become so flexable, they swallow specialist genres. BIS will be cleaning up as it takes it's engine to more and more extremes.

  4. Pfft, economy wise, it's very unrealistic that an island the size of sahrani could afford the amount of military gear they are likely to get. Let along the public works needed anyhow.

It's the same with the russian invasion of everon and stuff, hardly likely to invoke a bloody costly war over it.

Somewhere they have to strike a 'balance' as in everygame. BTW I was looking at the Canary Islands on google earth, as a comparable lattitude of Sahrani... As with many islands in the atlantic - interesting!

  5. Why on earth would you bother with digital distribution, given that most people who play the game do so offline, let along have a broadband connection to download it with!!!huh.gif!!! WAKEUP! Only do this when you can make a bigger cut from selling it online.

  6. god, yo guys are hysterics.

We've been told UMPTEENTH TIMES that there will be up to 64 PLAYERS in EVERY INTERVIEW up till now, by placebo. FACT.

we have been TOLD the minimum specs and what it will RUN ON, stop SPECULATING on something that everyone has been TOLD what it will be.

Don't blame ArmA for not supporting Dual core.

Dual core at the moment is simply what it is: a sexy sounding name that aint mean much as of yet.

  7. I think it goes without saying that waterfalls go with rivers. Whether spring related or not. Waterfalls add atmosphere though, maybe for a wow factor.

The whole point is that there are not many towns that are not situated near a water source. 2/3rds of towns that I drive through have a watercourse running through them or nearby them, and ALL the big towns have them thus presenting a natural obstacle that must be overcome when bridges and whathaveyou arn't nearby.

It's not a matter of eyecandy or holidays, it's just 'Real' to have such obstacles. They present interesting scenarios, realistic bottlenecks that present tactical problems, they provide a natural defensive barrier, for instance blowing up the bridges creates a problem. Your can also hide & drown in creeks as well as create scenarios e.g 'go kill the enemy thats poisening the water source'. Infact it's such an important thing that most respectable armies have a large engineering corps with equipment to move armies over such obstacles. Modern Day Humans use water at such an atrocious rate that most towns simply couldn't exist without a decent watercourse or major source of groundwater, but on sahrani, there are mountains everywhere - in a tropical area where the ground gets waterlogged which creates runoff, which creates streams... Depending on the length of the watercourse, the bigger it gets in many cases.

  8. Almost forgot too...

Rocky Escarpments with deep revines that you can fall down and die in =-p and other limited access areas apart from islands, little wild animal trails that go through forests that you can go follow through tounge2.gif some dangerous areas of limited mobility like swamps and other muddy areas.

  9. Because it might be an engine related issue. Having moving waterways running down the correct contours in varying degrees could be a significant problem that we are unaware about. I would have thought that after 5 years since opfp, that the development team have thought numerous times about including it, but havn't. Obviously for a reason as it's a pretty important feature. besides this is not on the topic. Post it in what you wish for armed assault thread.

  10. We were already told that there were no rivers or streams in ArmA.

So there is No river or steam of any sort in ArmA.

They must have difficulties with making them, however agreed, a 400km Square Island with mountains and tropical areas without a single river or steam would have to be a world anomaly. We'll know somethings wrong when there are no rainwater tanks and the towns rely soley of the off the odd well. Make toiletting an issue =-p.

  11. True, but i'm not sure the H1 term would be respected even after an eventual agree with a publisher at the E3. I don't think there's enough time left. And summer is incoming fast.......

And so is the New Financial year,

    And so are other things,

And so the wait will be longer till they get their paychecks.

They are going to release when they can. They might be 'gods' in the eyes of some people, but they need to have food on the table at the end of each day like everybody else. As strange as that might seem

    confused_o.gif

What I'm trying to say is, this is a screenshots thread. Not a speculation on release thread.

  12. Well, basically u can make a logical judgement where the smart enemy might be hiding, a few rounds into a suspect bush can wield unexpected suprises.

Who really cares if you know theres a resupply point anyrate.

I never found bushes a concearn at all. enjoyed the game for what it was worth, don't know what the hastle is with everyone beleiving their version of 'reality' is infact realistic, and everyone elses isn't, and thus the attitude 'this bs it's not true which moan whine arcade sim moan duke nukem whinge halo 2' etc etc etc

  13. Perhaps you should consider that during any patrol the enemy will be looking specifically at bushes, even perhaps firing into them if they suspect something is there.

No need to take a chance by presuming nothing is in the bushes. Because everyone hides in them...

  14. More sensible to have slower moving attack aircraft than mach 1.2 + monstors.

Anyone ever seen the simposons episode where crusty hijacks the right flyers, and the f-14's 'try' intercepting it... 'oop, we're past it'

having lets say 5 Kay distance is nowhere near enough time for a fast jet to prosecute an in and out attack.

  15. I don't have any problems with options to carry more.

What frightens me more though is people running along with heaps of weapons and ammo loaded up all arnie style. 'Damn i've run outta ammo on my machine gun, lets toss it aside, i've used it enough anyrate, I can call on my trusty assault rifle.... oh, damn it's no good, time to unsling my sniper rifle instead... oh i've run out of ammo, now it's time for the assault rifle.... lets throw it away, oh look i'm getting lighter, lets find these 10 or so grenades I got tucked away here.

thats what i'm worried about. Especially in the more short lived multiplayer maps.
