    Track ir

TIR is to the head, what the mouse did for the hands. Apples mouse was initially an expensive flop, but now everyone has got one as an essential. TIR is like that for immersion. I'm going to be buying one. www.simhq.com has got a $30.00 off special on TIR right now.

    ArmA Progress Updates

Question is, who cares? Im a consumer in a capitalist consumer country, and I don't give a crap about anyone else. If they can't find a publisher, Steam is a great interim solution to bring up more attention to Armed Assault. First they release it through Steam, then when enough attention comes they'll release a box version. And hence devalue the hardcopy version? The amount of real world contractural Nightmares that would pop up for any prospective publisher and developer would be endless. Contracts are as thin as the paper they are written on and are the source of long and bitter company-killing disputes despite any amount of goodwill that exists when it comes to 'co-distribution'. The Bottom of the line is that before even starting up business, any company with any sort of business know-how, have already spent many hours agonising over product launch and the feasability of each. With each option potentially having various consequences. I'd take the safe option!

    Marketing for Armed Assault

I think the community could help by compiling a list of music they think honestly tastefull. BIS is in a non english speaking country and there is always cultural divide in music. Music can set a fantastic scene in trailers. I also think BIS should release some clips they think sum up the game, and give it to the community to make the best promo video they can. Best video gets a free game and promo material with it signed by the development staff, and free look in form Game 2 Snippets. Just an Idea.

About the US military in ArmA

CHRIST, for god sakes people This game is not 2012, its not 2008, its not anything. ITS TODAY, ITS MODERN DAY. 2006! This has been said 50 times already. And I guess you should be real happy that when the game is released, it becomes un-modern day and 'un-real' in a shortish amount of time because constantly changing military doctrine. BIS are getting away from Past conflicts and more into semi-realistic scenarios in the near future. What has been said plenty of times is that they, BIS have to strike an even keel between beleivability, enjoyability, and diversity, something that isn't going ot win all the people all the time. Oh, and one other thing, don't use the pistols animation, I don't like being associated with such extremism and find it offensive. Also, don't use religeous connotations in your text, it offends others.

    ArmA Progress Updates

Just too bad that most of the consumers of Armed Assault, won't have the connection download the game even in 5-10 years (and no doubt the size games increase to in that time), not to mention the developing world market which is RAPIDLY expanding, but do NOT have a connection thats likely tog et better anytime soon despite advances in internet connectivity. It's bloody obviouse why people who post such on message boards do support internet distribution, they already have a connection. 10 Years ago we wouldn't have dreampt of downloading a game. Unfortunately the Developing world is further than 10 years behind! Let alone those that son't have time to surf looking for a game, unaware of it's existance, and pop into the local computer outlet looking for a cool new game. Theres going to major probelms with signing contract agreements with small dev studios releasing their game to the world, if they want to distribute it online.

    Community: LOOK AT YOURSELVES!

In IL2 Forgotten Battles, Servers that have high damand have a 'kill kick' facililty, whereby if you die x amount of times, you are shut out of the game for x amounts of minutes. It enables new people to come in. But in Operation flashpoints case, you can use it against the 'rambo' types, to quite affective style. Put that in your wish list for ArmA.

    Community: LOOK AT YOURSELVES!

You guys ever study physics at all? The Laws are universal, and their military applications are a reflection of these physics. Materials and systems are developed, to Deal with forces of momentum and impulse, conservation of momentum, collision, and co-efficients of restitution. The whole world of weapons their effects and application along with defensive system revolves around this. Thats why, armour penetrating bults are developed, why reactive armour is developed, why armour slats are developed, why internal flexible linings are used, and rubber impact chassis protection systems are developed. Thats why whenever a new material is found, it's advantages are ALMOST ALWAYS picked up and used by the military FIRST.

    Best of First-Person Tactical/Wargaming

Thanks Dyslexic. Actually for a mis - spelt name to a dyslexic it's perfectly readable So I guess being one pays off sometimes for me! I thought your article was brilliant. Infact I think it should be stickied because of the 'realism' arguments that go on. I thought it quite comprehensive. Watching the Okinawa tape and hearing the .50 cal go off compared to the other m/g's was quite pronounced. Personally when viewing the Operation flashpoint video, I don't consider myself a good shooter in the least and I guess being a professional soldier and having better arm muscles would be able to keep a target within reasonable scope after physical duress. Personally I find it extremely hard to shoulder a rifle after finding balance and squeezing off a shot at all accurately. I Always where possible except for close range prefer a support. Ideally I prefer Prone with a support, with as little holding of the weapon as possible. I really agree on the 6 DOF. Enjoyed the Cobra track but HATED the disturbed inclusion lol.

About the US military in ArmA

We know that politically, Rumsfield is trying to convert the military into a quicker more ready responce force. Therefor the presence of strykers and marinised AH-1 Cobras isn't suprising - remember this is 2012 we are speaking about. We know that the North has considerable armour, and therefor given the U.S role is to train the South to be able to meet a contingency, it isn't unrealistic for the U.S to send it's only MBT so they can get some practice in tank warfare. In anycase, an MBT will be needed to counter any Armour threat. M113's are in use by MANY countries and will continue to do so for many years to come. It certainly is not Uncommon for the U.S or any other country to sell equipment & training packages for their own equipment they don't need anymore. We could see anything, maybe even a WASP class ship. Why speculate?

    ArmA Progress Updates

Since your able to turn character swapping off alltogether it's not even worth the chat. We can all proffer words of wisdom about how it's not realistic to swap over for OBVIOUS reasons, including artificial situational awareness, but youc an either turn it on or off. Frankly i couldn't care!

    Exclusive Armed Assault report

I think Baphomet, that the real issue is there, well intentioned people making weaponry they consider 'real' whilst other people not liking the feel of it and trying to tweak it. Sometimes the community looks at addonmakers and cringe when theres another fight about 'realism' simply because 'realisim' is a big mud fest in every-sim-that-is-released. It drives some of us nuts and really we only want to play and enjoy the game. But when mod makers start getting into fights about 'realism' it turns everything muddy. Chun.

What do you *HOPE* will be in ArmA?

To tell you the truth I don't know why it has to be treated, there is some issue in regards to uranium mines using it and other industries. Australia has the Worlds largest Supply of Uranium, and Aluminium Bauxite amoungst other things, mostly occuring inland so usage of it is unfortunately open to exploitation regardless of regulations. Not to say the water is radioctive or anything just the usage of it is unknown in how it affects the water table. no problem about the reply - it's probably my fault - so many problames with interpretation on the net. B52 only had 1 turret, and it was later converted to radar guidance - not sure if they still have them. Keep your eyes peeled for an AC 130U =-p.

What do you *HOPE* will be in ArmA?

Ever studied topography at all? I never said living off groundwater wasn't possible. The bottom of the line is as already discussed in tropical areas the soil gets waterlogged, which creates run off, which creates streams. You can only take so much from a water table or the water table alters, water tables exist or don't exist in regards to certain topographical features, as do rivers & streams Which is why where you live and how many more people depend on ground water might actually exist. There are geographical anomalies, like the Great Artesian basin in Australia where the land mass is just so huge the water soaks and pools underneath, even underneath the dryest of deserts unfortunately it's a long way down. But an island? Look around the islands in the atlantic on google earth. If Sahrani lacked any steams or waterways it would be an atlantic anomoly! There are always water catchment areas.

    New ArmA trailer

hey, great vid lovely work an enviably talent. Few eye for detail things perhaps instead of the AH64 apache.. the map of sahrani over the real island, as you zoom into the island it dissapears or something? People see an AH64 apache on the trailer which is a cool effect but it leaves you wishing to see som AH 64 apache action as the trailer leaves you wanting to see some more. I would probably scrap the zoom in over all the vehecles at the end, it shows us what vehecles there are but if you were watching it and were new to the game you'd be taking notice that the scene doesn't show action. Number of vehecles doesn't necessarily attract an audience it's the atmosphere. but it's a minor critisism. if I were to have that sorta shot I would perhaps put it up front but it doesn't really belong there either IMHO. You want that sort of shot right before the action with that equipment begins if you have it. Fantastic trailer overall. imagine the sort of video's the community could come up with. They make all the difference when promoing a game. I thought the choice of music was great, the use of the island early up great, the quick flick through the vipers going over the city and whathaveyou was perfect. Makes me envious! P.S hope the critisism was viewed as constructive! I look forward to some more movies when the games released! (Edit) to make comments appear more soft)

What do you *HOPE* will be in ArmA?

Uh, for the 4th time, Rivers/streams. You know, for the bridges to cross for the wildlife to live off and for the towns to use as a watersource. You know, how do these people live? Lots of people can't be kept by ground water alone. And uh, for the 4th time. it's not possible to include them. thats why I *HOPE* for it! Be cool pinning an infantry squad against a river *mwhuhuhu*

    Adjustable iron sights?

Frankly I don't give a damn about iron sights. Let BIS decide whats the best trade off and stop trying to change something that seems to me nobody will really care about, Because in the end BIS has a reason. A reason doesn't necessarily mean it's agrees with you. opinions are like assholes as they say. You will always find someone to say it's unrealistic.
