I'm no modeller, so my hands are kind of tied by this - so probably not at this late stage. Forgive me for this innaccuraceh. -

The ACHs are, of course, custom models - didn't think I was gonna stand with those USMC LWH PASGT wannabes, did you? That's not the best angle to show them off, though. The boots are the BIS model, though I'm doing my best to turn them into Belleville DWCBs via textures. Well spotted. And the font used on the nametape? Well, the ones I have are taken from real pictures, as I didn't trust myself to write them. There seems to be a variety of fonts in use. -

Might just check that. I think it was just a bad stroke of luck in that pic, though. :P EDIT: Yeah, faces are all good, just bad luck on my behalf. -

Once again I see how futile it is posting in here with the likes of Parvus, NSX, Ingram, Nightkiller, Waaazaaaa! etc around, but heck, in a pitched battle, I think this pic would last at least 5 seconds. CMcD ACU (WIP), CSS M4s/M16s imported by RobertHammer (thanks to those modellers! Great work!, NightKiller's Animations. -
Heh, I'm fairly sure that the incorrect usage of a properly spelt word registers as a grammatical error. But heck, must be nitpicking week for me.

OK, been working hard. New pic: Look hard, and you might notice something a little different from the vanilla BIS dudes... Issues raised by you blokes: Performance: should be better than standard BIS troops, especially at distance. Most units are similar to their BIS counterparts face wise, some are higher, some are lower, but ALL of the new guys have less sections than the vanilla dudes, especially in the lower LODs. ALL of the ACU units drop from 6 to 8 sections in the 1.00 LOD (which is usually lower than the comparative BIS unit) to 3 or 4 sections in the 2.00 LOD. This augers well for making missions with large amounts o' dudes. There is, however, room for optimisation, but this will haveta wait until the 2nd release, later on... or at least until Jonny puts out the next version of his marines, which are NUTS. Nametapes: As Jahve mentioned, we looked into the possibility of having custom names, however, the real issue is that I don't have time, and plus most of the units don't have a visible nametag due to their LBHs covering the IOTV's front panel. An easier method would be to map a tag onto the ACH, but, this would be quite time consuming, and to make my current deadline it's going on the back burner for now. As for the whole "ah tits I've got 7 blokes with the same nametape" issue, well, each class with a nametape visible has a different name, and that's about the best I can do. If I feel bad about it later I might cop out and just put "US Army" up there, but as for now, shmah, it suffices. Isn't having a unique model for each class enough? Heck, I even made TWO rifleman units just so you wouldn't have two identical riflemen in each squad, though there are still two identical grenadiers and SAW gunners per squad, sadleh. Maybe I'll fix that next time around. Armour: All the blokes have upgraded armour for their torsos. I kept the legs and arms the same, as the groin plate, kidney pad and DAPs don't extend ALL the way down, and upping the armour for these areas would be [JimCarreyVoice] COUNTERPRODUCTIVE! [/JimCarreyVoice] If I can convince one of my modding friends to bake me some more _AS textures very quickly, perhaps the lightly armoured dudes can come out in this release too. We'll see. Special Forces: Maybe later. I've still got a crapload of stuff to make as far as regs go, and I suppose someone else who likes making spec op dudes will make them eventually. <cough> Jonny or Ebud <cough> Work continues. Ebud - please check your PM... though I imagine you already have. -
My vote would have gone for a d3@+h 5+@r misfire - those things are shooting up my house all the time...
-
A grammatical error! Not like you at all, Theo! Tsk tsk!
-
THe 2.00 LOD doesn't have a kidney pad. When you look at this LOD, the _AS map's shadow, which is usually under aforementioned pad, is visible. Much of a muchness, as far as errors go. I'd rather that Jonny fixed the accidentally merged point in the mouth.
-
@Parvus: Those are Jonny's USMC, not mine. I'm just making the ACU blokes, which lean pretty heavily on Jonny's work.

Heh, thanks for the kind words, guys. I went out last night, got inebriated and ended up badly due to an oyster I don't think was quite right... but that's another story. As for the work: @Boonie issue: since you blokes are all clamouring for my blood, I'm gonna release just enough units to keep you happy by the 18th, so, I've just got the DMarksman and Squad Leader to go. The DMarksman will have an ACH, since a) the BIS one is rather odd and b) I'd say that wearing an ACH in a combat zone is mandatory in the urban situation. I'm also getting some help with the ambient shadow maps, so those are coming along too. @Gloves: those are tan Hatch SGOs! The dudes also have the black and green variants too, as well as two types of Nomex gloves, a Wiley-X CAG and Oakley Pilots are in there too. However, I'm out of town this weekend, as such, and won't be back until Monday or so. Things are on track for the 18th, though. Once I've gotten the "main" pack out, I'll feel a tonne less pressure and will be able to work on garrison dudes, extra combat units (RTOs?) and newer features at my leisure. Plus make some missions, too, which would be nice, since I was originally a mission maker to begin with. -

How to fix/merge sections in parts from old models
CameronMcDonald replied to feersum.endjinn's topic in ARMA : O2 MODELLING
I'm interested. Is there a way to "trade off" performance between sections and texture number? For example, if a model is made with say, 7 sections, 3 of which are very small textures (say, 128x128 max), or no texture at all, is it faster to have the three sections or have one section with 3 teensy textures within it? -

Heh, thanks for the vote of confidence, guys, but please, not me. Really. My vote goes to either: Plaintiff1 DaSquade Jonny or Jahve. -

Sorry about the spam, but were you considering making a tank-hunter version of the Marder, Plaintiff? Damn scary tank, that. -

EDIT - Just realised you're not speaking about me. All good. As for your goggles and ballistic eyewear request, go back to page 36 and tell me what you see the bloke on the left wearing over his eyes. Â Also, it's really hard to see due to the transparent lenses, but the grenadier (bloke on the right) is also wearing ballistic eyewear, so never fear. I'm a bit offy about dark-lensed glasses, I know troops wear them, but it pisses me off when I'm see the guys wearing shades at 2am with their NODs on over them. But we'll see. Work continues. -

Glad you all liked the picture. Thankyou for the kind words. Work continues. Ah, sadly, I'm not really too chuffed about making any weapons at the moment. The good news for you blokes is that I should be able to make a BIS config, a BIS + Jonny config, a RobertHammer config and a Vilas config without too much trouble. If Wipman's weapon pack has any weapons I'd like to see as well, I might make a BIS + Wipman config. Heheh, indeed. Sadly (although it's also a good thing) for you guys, I'm a bit of a perfectionist. In my real-world research I've noticed a bit of a difference between the ACU used in the IOTV, groin plate and DAPs when compared to the uniform. Thus I'm going to make these parts look slightly different. I also need to texture some new boots if I get around to it, having been told that there is indeed new footwear being issued out there. Also, I'm still lacking three units I NEED to have finished before I can release the addon. But I swear upon my as-yet not finished grave that the addon WILL be finished by latest 18th of February 11.59pm AEST or earlier. Also it's my 21st birthday on the 7th, so cut me some slack, would yeh? :P Nope, more like I prefer torturing myself by making these darned things. Once again, I'm sorry for the protracted development period. Ah yes, forgot about them. I'll try and get them added, though they're in an awkward place, mapping-wise, AFAIK. -

How to fix ST, Non-linear/planar mapping errors
CameronMcDonald replied to DaSquade's topic in ARMA : O2 MODELLING
Also note that standard BIS models have ST errors, namely near the eyes and the groin, however, when binarised these don't show up in the ArmA.rpt. Great tute, Dasq! -
How to fix/merge sections in parts from old models
CameronMcDonald replied to feersum.endjinn's topic in ARMA : O2 MODELLING
SHWEET! i'll get to this immediately! EDIT - Just curious, does this mean that each different texture has a different section, in a perfect world? If so, apologies for the stupid question. -
Nothing in Arma2 Seems much Different
CameronMcDonald replied to Dogtags's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Ya, it seems a crime nowadays to let that go. MG clipping too is irritating as hell. -
Great stuff. If you ever got around to making a full-size island, I'd probably pay you for it.

Nice work, Dan - should come in handy.

Yeah, well, I could take a screenie, but it's only around a 5% difference. It's certainly noticeable ingame though. Little bit of faith?
