How to NOT remove dead bodies/equipment?
Comradesniper posted a topic in ARMA - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Is it possible to make ArmA not remove equipment from dead soldiers in a mission? I suppose I mean how to stop them despawning, I couldn't find anything on the search. Cheers! -
Hey guys I'm just getting started in O2, and I kind of understand the process of how to create geometry and texture things in this editor... but I don't know how you would create reference images/textured planes that are visible in the orthographic or 3D views. I'm sure something about it was on the Piper Cheyenne tutorial, but thats now down. The only method I've found involved putting the images in the background as background textures, but the problem with that is that they get lost when you close the editor. What is the best way to do this?

Hey The BIS breathe site download links are down for o2 and the viewer. I managed to find an older version but it keeps asking for the CD, and it wont accept the GOTY edition CDs. Does anyone have a link to the latest version?

Uh, because that's too easy and removes any kind of teamwork, even between low numbers of players? We don't want to. We have a small group who play ArmA on our own server on our own ventrilo. This is a great way to keep in contact as friends. Our server probably can't cope with many players anyway, and we have no intention of opening it up. It's our server, we use it as we want. So what, we need to put aside one player out of 4 or 5 to fly us around? This isn't practical with a low number of players, where you want as many people actually in combat as much of the time as possible, without it being too stupid and easy. Allowing respawn at a certain vehicle (as in CTI) AS AN OPTION would fix this problem for smaller servers. The "majority" of people who play this game as a game (IE, not on a server with 60+ players with codes of conduct as imposed by a clan or whatever) do not wish to spend 50-80% of their time travelling or waiting. If I wanted to do that, I would play Eve Online. When was the last time a public server even remotely represented a realistic battlefield environment anyway? Like it or not, most people play this as a game for fun. If your idea of fun is to accurately recreate battlefield tactics, then join a server that does so. People on the more casual servers do not invade clan servers insisting that you all go off and rambo, so why are you trying to tell us how to play this game on our servers? The idea here is to allow the respawn-at-base thing to carry on as normal, because this does work on servers with a lot of players. It does not work on servers with 4 players. This has nothing to do with individual skill, but because if you have 4 people against 100-120 AI players in an urban environment with tanks and aircraft, you will die a lot regardless (especially considering that the AI can pinpoint you with sound alone). This is why I think there should be an alternative system for respawning, that ensures you stay in the action as much as possible. Staying in the action does not mean respawning-in-place cheese or infinite health. This is a suggestion, not me telling the mission maker "YOU MUST DO THIS OR ELSE blah blah blah". It is up to the developer to take this idea on board, or not. It is not your place to try and tell me what I can and can not say or how I play on my own server, thank you very much.

Is the horrible vehicle steering optional? UGH!

Mkay, what would you people rather see in Game 2? Realistic ground vehicle and aircraft handling, using similar models to dedicated simulators? -or- rabbits? -
Aye, this would help a lot for low player servers.

Vehicles or people look like sea urchins

As suggested above, try lowering your texture detail, or adding <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">-maxmem=512 into your shortcut. If your card is holding at 50 degrees, it isn't a heating problem. More likely, you are running out of RAM and the game is doing weird things before crashing (seems to only happen since the last patch for me). Lowering your texture detail and/or adding maxmem should fix it in that case. How much RAM do you have? -
Uh, thats not very realistic at all.

I would agree with this. Even on low, the shadows are too much in dense areas.

There are some places on the interwebs that let you specify custom parts for the computer. http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/ These guys do this, as a place to start looking at least.

Hey I have created a nice new texture for the car_sedan, and I want to be able to use it without overwriting the original car_sedans texture. I have made the texture inside Photoshop, saved it as a 32bit TGA and converted it to paa using texview. I have set up the config.cpp and copied over the p3d of the original. To get the texture onto the model, I have tried: Hex editing the p3d to replace the old file name/path with my new one Using a utility called p3dutil that is supposed to replace the texture inside the P3d. Both of these methods get me an out of memory error, with stupid amounts of memory requested. Is there any way to do this without having to remap the texture inside O2 or something?

Dedicated server debug
Comradesniper replied to Comradesniper's topic in ARMA - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Actually, let me rephrase that... Is there any way to send a text message from a script executed only on a dedicated server to the clients? Such as, a chat message or a titletext? What would also work is outputting to the server console (if thats possible?). -
Is there any way to get any text output from a dedicated server for debugging scripts? This is to try and fix some problems that only occur with a dedicated server, but I have _no idea_ what is going on in there without some way to get output from the server that is generated from inside a script in a mission file.

Using the keyboard is even worse. It doesn't give you full lock within a decent amount of time. Even driving with a steering wheel doesn't work, because the controls for it seem to lag behind by about 2 seconds, which makes it feel all wrong. I drive with the mouse, but you need to be careful when driving any vehicle that isn't a tank in this game. You eventually sort of get used to it. -
As mentioned somewhere else, having a separate slider for the tree shaders and other shaders would fix this.
