If you blow a mobile object with about 24 satchel charges, such as a Jeep, it should not turn into a wreckage and fly high into the sky then crash somewhere where the wreckage is still intact....... such as Jeep tossing. Instead it should just blow up in pieces and/or vaporize.<span id='postcolor'> I think it is actualy possible to vapourise something in OFP1. A long time ago for fun I laid lots and lots and lots of satchel charges next to a vehicle (Abrams I think). When I set off the stachel charges (there was something like a 100 of them) the vehicle dissapeared, and I didn't see it again. Either it went so high so fast I didn't see it, or it was obliviated.

I think it could be a good option. And if OFP2 is going to be in Vietnam, it has to have Medvacs. Think of it: carrying your comrade who is missing a good part of one of his legs to a hot LZ while a Huey comes down with tracers trying to get it.

I'm just saying that if the helo is dead and on its way down then the computer should start loading the animation for whats going to happen if the sucker hits into a building or hits into the ground and everything should change accordingly.  Like, there should be an animation done to the house for when a helicoptor hits the top of it or something lands on top.  If you look at strategy games the houses usually just 1. catch on fire, 2. completely crumble into a pile of rocks, or whatever based on what happened to it.  I think thats how to go about a destruction animation for the buildings in ofp.  Make the pc determine what happened to it then match up the correct animation for what it should look like.<span id='postcolor'> That could kind of work, but I would personally prefer a more dynamic system, where the damage can be diffrent depending on where the chopper hits, how fast the chopper hits etc. Also say a chopper is coming down over a building so the animation of the building been crumbled is been loaded up, then the chopper swerves and misses the building, what happens? Does the computer then cancel the animation? I think it would just be better to havea system if a shell hits a building, it gets a chunk blown out. Not computer detects shell coming towards building and loads up animation of building getting chunck blown out. That system could be quite CPU intesive. What if there are 20 shells all in the air at once? Does the computer have to load up a shell hit animation all within a few seconds? Don't know where I am going with this... If it doesn't make sense, ignore.

The OFP2 General forum has become the offtopic forum! This is the second thread where the discussion has gone over to more political things in this section. Not trying to sound like a little control freak, but maybe you'd like to carry on your discussion in the offtopic area? Anyway, to stop sounding like a control freak: Looking at other forums, the generally accepted idea is that OFP2 will be set in Vietnam. If BIS wanted to make people think it was set in Vietnam with their website, they did a very good job. Some people don't like the idea of it been set in Vietnam, but I think most of us won't really care when it comes to it. We love OFP too much to wlak out just because of the setting of the next game. OFP2 is happening, lets just be happy for that, and enjoy thegame of waiting for the next bit of information or screenshot from it is likely to be a great game I think I need to go now.

Unfortunetely alot of people would be really unpleased if the flow of the game was slowed down. Quite a lot of DoD players want a semi-realistic game that moves at a pace just a bit slower than the average FPS like UT2003. The only reason I bother with DoD is because it offers what OFP can't really come through with: CQB. For fun last night I was playing around with the mission editor. I had I44's US Airborne troops attacking a small village in Nogova (Loukva or something). The village was defended by by German soldiers. When the two forces met around the village, it was kind of funny. There would be a US soldier standing right next to a German. They would be next to each other for a while then they would wake up to the fact they were standing next to an enemy then one of them would shoot the other. The point is that the OFP cannot handle CQB situations.

Don't you all think this is getting a bit political? There is a very good place for discussions like this, the Offtopic section of these good forums. But then, who am I to judge? I think the OFP2 plot would only involve the USA vs. USSR/Russia if the plot involved Guba. Otherwise the enemy will be some other 'evil' people. -

One of the funniest comments I found on the BBC comments page was 'looks like Baghdad Bobs speech writer has found a new job' I found the ones posted by Americans to be really interesting. You have the ones saying 'George W. Bush is a great president. God bless America and God bless GWB' then there were ones saying I am ashamed to have him representing my country. Just goes to show you can't trust all those polls trumpeting 70% approval ratings for Bush. Personally, I don't like polls unless every single person is questioned.

If you want to download DoD from the internet, you need either the retail version of Half Life or Counter-Strike. If you buy DoD from the shops, you don't need any other game as it is standalone. The only real point is to lure in new players and to get money from DoD fans who think it is their patriotic duty to buy the retail version.
-
For your sound problems, I suggest you download a new explosion sound. There are quite a few things with DoD 1.0 I don't like, but with luck 1.1 will fix some of those problems. They have brought in some really cool technology and that is deffinetely a good thing. And the thought of DoD on the Half Life 2 engine...

Probably has something to do with 16bit sound, the fact that I can now use EAX and the particle system.

I wouldn't worry too much about the rocket launchers. I was playing on a server and there were all these people using Panzershrecks and Bazookas, the thing is, they weren't doing that well. They were sure enough using them against people, but I only saw about one rocket actualy kill someone. They are however quite good for making people take cover. I think after awhile the novetly will wear off and people will settle down to using weapons that can get them more kills. I believe that since 1.0 is the retail version, they purposely left out quite a bit of realism and made things alot more user friendly. The map for example. What I hope they do in the next upgrade is add more realism touches. Once they have drawn in the crowd, gently left them up to a little more realism.

I have it. As I hoped, Ausgamers put up a mirror and I was able to download it at 300kb a second. I installed it and went for a joyride  on my own private lan server just to check out the new stuff. The British are good, the Lee Enfield was good (if it hadn't been, I would have been most displeased). The new particle effects are great. Shoot a tank and see sparks fly off. Shot a wall and chunks of brick fall to the ground (then dissapear). I do hope OFP2 has a system like this, shooting a tank in OFP and seeing a puff of dirt is not the greatest. Its all lovely! *Edit* The Kar 98 is not so super any more. It is still one shot kill with super accuracy, but it has a slower bolt, and while you work the bolt, you lose the crosshair so you can aim as well while you are realoading.

I did see some mirrors for 1.0 though. go to www.dod.co.nz for links, but I think they are from German based servers, so I am going to wait until a mirror closer to home is set up so I'm not waiting all day for it. I hope Sturmbot for 1.0 comes out soon. Waldo (one of the developers of DoD) said they were given 1.0 early so they could start working on it before release so hopefully it can't be too far off.

I have been waiting for this version of DoD, previously known as DoD 4.0 to come out since last October so today is an important day. Of course there was a delay, by the sounds of things, there is always a 'delay of defeat'. I wish DoD was more realistic, but it is close enough. I think they probably purposely didn't make the guns more realistic because they are going retail, they don't want to scare off anyone because the game is too realistic. But they got rid of jump shooting which is good. I can't get into the forums so I assume there is lots of people there. I'll be on the lookout for a mirror. I hope Ausgamers get a mirror up soon, they don't tend to have waiting lines, and since I'm in Australia, I get speeds of around 500kb a sexond with cable.
