Chumpalumpa

When you are in charge of a squad of men, how do you tell how much ammo they have left, and how do you order them to pick up ammo at the ammo depots in the towns? For instance, in the Commander level, there are 3 places you need to attack. By the third area, all my guys start complaining they have no ammo. It would make sense to have them reload at the town before the last, but I do not know how to do it. Thanks!
