  1. Hey, Is it possible to enable vehicle crosshairs, whilst having player crosshair disabled? In ACE, I have found that few vehicles have the weapon crosshair still - and most do not. Tricky with the AH6! Thanks in advance for help

    Realistic Terrain

In my opinion, ArmA seriously lacked realistic terrain. I'm not talking visually, grass and tree details etc are fine. The fact is the land is much too flowing and smooth. If we are going to have a balance of good gameplay and realism, the terrain needs the kind of gullies, valleys and little flaws that make games more interesting and realistic. In Arma, tanks can go ANYWHERE. I don't care what you say, its true. Unless its vertical and the tank doesn't physically have enough steam to get up, there's no change your vehicle is getting stuck. In reality, rocks, cliffs, rivers, lakes, trees, seriously rough terrain would limit the mobility of anything. I think this would dramatically improve those firefights, as at the moment with ArmA unless your covered by trees or a structure, you can be seen pretty much miles away. Its like a series of football fields with trees, houses and a mountain here and there. Lets see some of this

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks this suggestion has some wieght. Couldn't agree more with the two above posts. Cheers lads
  4. Hey, as the title states, I thought it might be a good suggestion to have; - Fast ropes out of air-craft for quick deployment - Burning / on fire players. I thought the other day that ArmA is lacking the realism of burning bodies. When you hit a tank, instead of having instant dead bodied suddenly drop on the floor, I thought they might be on fire (on occasions this would happen realistically) and maybe even not be instantly dead (run around on fire). So what do you all think?

    Quarantine

I've got a bug. I'm hosting a multiplayer game On my dedicated server, no players see the 'secure area mission' text that should appear, but they see it on the map. No players can 'rescue' survivors. On my own game, that I have hosted on my PC (Arma->multiplayer->New etc) ONLY I can see the 'secure area mission' marker, and rescue survivors. The others can see them, but still not rescue them or complete the secure area missions. What's the probem here?

Cracking work Murphy! Can I ask how you over-came the problem of only 144 units being spawned? You talked a few pages back about the script you were using to delete bodies not working, so you made sure the yomies own one was used instead (delete group & vehicle I think you mentioned). You see i'm making a missions, works great. Got 15 yomie_spawn markers all spawning fine (with 50-80 yomies in, on 'infinate' but when I run through all my markers till the last one, they seem to stop spawning completly. My general thoughts were that the yomies were actucally deleted out of the marker once the player leaves, so that if the player enters a new marker, yomies will spawn and not be affected by the 144 max rule, but this dosnt seem to be the case. I've tried yomies own template, and the demo mission as bases to make my mission, but still no avail. Is there some kind of remove yomie script/tripper needed other than the one in their own template? Or do you just have to waste all the yomies in the area? (even though you should be able to have 'infinate' on so they keep coming) I'm stumped.

Can't run edited missions on dedicated server!

That will work normally, only if you have a very basic mission setup. If you are using scripts, advanced .sqf or .init files, and custom made descriptions, the only way I'm aware of to make the mission and store it in your dedicated server is to goto your 'Arma other profiles' directory where you store the edited missions, finding your folders, and using a tool such as BinPBO to create a .PBO file out of the folder, and manually move it to the MpMissions in the arma directory. When you start doing this you can really start to make some good advanced missions. You can progress through your scripting knowledge and make templates for future missions, making it really easy and fast to make advanced technical missions. Good luck!

    Dedicated Server Mission select

I'll give it a go! thanks very much!
  10. I've purchased a dedicated server, and installed Armed Assault & Queens Gambit. I've patched to 1.09 successfully. I have never played the game on that system, as it is being used for a dedicated server. The server will run fine with the following config and target. Server Target "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA\beta\arma_server.exe" -config=server.cfg -profiles=profiles Server 'Start in: "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA" _ The server is great. The ping is below 20 for most players, and there have been no problems yet. Apart from one, and its a pretty damn big problem. We all login to the server, and UNLESS I login as admin (/#login "password") and then select the mission (/#missions) manually. They do not load for the players to choose/vote unless I select them through admin! I was having an error message before, but fixed it I think. It was a 'No prifiles loaded.defaultprofiles' or somthing along those lines. I fixed this by adding -profiles=profiles to the target and creating a folder in the arma directory called 'profiles'. Does anyone have the slightest idea why people who connect to my server are stuck on the 'waiting for host' screen, unable to select a mission unless logged in as admin? Thanks for your help in advance.

    Dedicated Server Mission select

Just out of curiosity, with the automatic mission class option, is there any way of putting a time-limit on each mission, so say for example, after 120 minutes, the server automatically changes to the next mission? Somthing like this: class Missions { class MissionOne { template = MissionOne.Sara; cadetMode = 1; timelimit = 120;?? }; class MissionTwo { template = MissionTwo.Sara; cadetMode = 1; }; This is an example of what I think it might look like? Though the command timelimit is wrong. Wanting the effect of the mission changes onto missiontwo after 120 minutes. Is this kind of thing possible server-side? Or does it have to be in the mission?

    Dedicated Server Mission select

Does that mean I have to do the following for EACH of the missions in the server?!? class Missions {   class ch64_berzerk_v1.23_ortego   {     template = ch64_berzerk_v1.23_ortego.sara.pbo;     cadetMode = 0; }; That's quite a bit of work. Surely, when a player connects, if the server is empty, there is a much simpler way the player can select a mission, rather than having to either login as admin, or have the class missions setup. I'm not talking about voting for a mission. I'm talking about a player selecting a mission when he/she enters the empty server, insead of just sitting there with a blank screen, which is happening at the moment. (No maps selection on the left hand side, no missions to select on the right-hand side, just blank) I don't know how to explain it in any other terms.

    Dedicated Server Mission select

On other servers, if it is empty, I've noted that you can connect and select a mission just as a player. I would very much like this option for my players.

    Dedicated Server Mission select

So do I just need to add class Missions { }; to my server.cfg? I'm sorry, I am a noob and this is new to me Thanks for the help though

    Dedicated Server Mission select

The config looks like this: Config file: passwordAdmin = "*****************"; hostname="********************"; maxPlayers = 64; reportingIP="armedass.master.gamespy.com"; motdInterval=8; motd[]= {"Welcome to our server"}; voteThreshold=0.33;voteMissionPlayers=3; kickduplicate=0; checkfiles[]={"HWTL\dta\data3d.pbo","dta\data3d.pbo"}; checkfiles[]={"HWTL\dta\data3d.pbo","dta\data3d.pbo" equalModRequired=0; disableVoN=0; vonCodecQuality=10; NetStats=1; VonID=1; persistent=1; onUserConnected="OH HI"; onUserDisconnected="Thanks for playing, Come visit soon"; I've added persistent=1; to keep the mission running when we leave since it closes and then future players that connect cannot choose a mission.

    berzerk 2 needs you :)

I'd love to! The only problem is that I hear 1.09 is not anti-hack/cheat proof? Are there any servers running it though? What are the server details? The Shadows Online Community
  18. Who we are Shadows-Online are a multi-gaming community that have just opened this January. Currently we are a very small group (around 55) who have come together over our interest in the individual games we play. We mainly play FPS and PRG, and have recently expanded into Armed Assault. We have gained several interests in sponsorship deals with brands such as SteelSeries and Fatal1ty, who have helped secure the dedicated servers we use for the different games we play. Our new site *Under construction* can be found at www.shadows-online.co.uk Who I am I am the section manager of the Armed Assault team, who currently have 6 members. What we're about Two of our members (including me) are currently training for the Royal Marine Commandos, and play the game not only because its great!!... but because we enjoy the team-building, role-play and realism aspects! We therefore use realistic ranking systems, offering progression throughout performance in missions. (A small example, see our site forums for more info) Warrant Officer Colour Sergeant Sergeant Corporal Lance Corporal Mods we use As you might notice, we work around the British Royal Marines, and use British Forces Mods. sO. In Detail We have 3 different divisions. SOC - Shadows Online Commandos (Amphibious Infantry Special Forces) SAF - Shadows Air Force SOR - Shadows Online Ratings (Armour and support) How we play Currently we use COOP style missions that are designed around real missions we have read/heard or just made up! We are looking to expand, and are open to any new ideas and thoughts! Applicants should: - be able to speak English well - be open to voice communication (Ventrilo/Team-Speak) - be mature and professional (but fun! - be able to take orders and adhere to the chain of command - be available to play weekly/daily If you are interested, goto out site and visit our forum! Any Questions, ask away! www.Shadows-Online.co.uk

    The sO. Gaming Community

Good-day all. A little update on Shadows-Online gaming community. We have had a slight increase in users followed by our implementation of new maps/missions (now over 370 users registered on our community site). The new mods we have used (optional) are: We not all use the new AACF sound mod (Very impressive) which you can get here . And the map Sakakah Al Jawf (for more recent campaigns which are relative to real events/ current issues, which involve 'Iraq'/Afghan type missions. We're also organising some Joint-Ops missions with other clans/communities. Nothing confirmed yet, but we're looking to do coop missions with a few great clans out there very soon (arrangements pending). Watch this space for updates!

    Select player problem

Hi, I've created a dedicated server for me and my mates. We can all get in, but one of our players can't select a player. We get to the player select section, we can all select, BUT he can't. He's using exactly the same version n everything as he can join the server. Whats the problem? I think we're all using the Arma & QG download, but he's using the DVD version. We've checked the targets and start-in on his PC, no luck there. I've checked everything on the server to make sure its all fine. I just don't know what to do. Is it somthing to do with profiles? Do I need a folder for him in the C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA\profiles\Users section? We're using Xam and 1.09

    Select player problem

No firewalls installed. Windows firewall turned off. When we goes to select player, he see's bluefor, opfor, and independant even though there are only bluefor on our missions. This is crazy annoying.

    The sO. Gaming Community

Thanks for your feedback 96D. I think its important to have a basic framework in-place before recruiting, so that candidates know what they can expect. The structure I have devised is not rocket-science. It offers long-term goals and a name to aim for! It follows actual Core and Officer ranks of the Royal Marines, which are achieved by a point system I calculate after each session. For clarification, each recruit is first and foremost an sO. Commando (see here for info) but they may choose a division to progress onto. These divisions work closely along-side each other during each mission to achieve the best possible outcome. As for our web-site, we have been open for a week. In that time, there have been 50 users register on our forums (please check for yourself if in doubt) even though our site is not complete yet. The ArmA section of the forum is almost complete and the recruitment section is active (see current recruits and apply here). As for the main site content, it will be added shortly, I try to keep my priorities in-check and give the lads a mission when they are online. In-order to add good content that is worth a read, first we must physically do somthing worthy enough to write about. The Shadows-Online gaming community has oppertunities for new members to make a real impact in this content, and for this reason the main site content is little/often. As the site is a 'Gaming Community' you will see updates on many other aspects of the community from the main site. This includes ArmA related info, but for all the news/Info you need to check the 'Armed Assault' section as well as the forums. Hope this clarifies a few things.
