ARMA2 & OA's Steam Thread: All Steam Q's/discussions go here [covered by Dwarden]
Beltfed replied to gimpymoo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I downloaded and installed patch 1.52 and now when I try and launch it from steam I get a securom asking for a DVD? How can I fix this, I'd love to play my new game. Chris -
I am exploring the "Close Combat" multiplayer scenario. I can get into the BTR-90 and drive it but when I switched to gunner it boots me outside the vehicle after about one second. Any ideas as to why? Thanks! Chris ---------- Post added at 01:52 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:48 AM ---------- Nevermind I figured it out. When I tried it as a team leader I could man the guns just fine. Oops! My apologies.

Or any fire for that matter? Thanks, Chris

BIS has made an awesome game/sim with Arma series. I hope you guys will consider adding some penetration tables to make it even better :).
-
I really wish they would do this. It is the biggest flaw in this "simulator" that penetration is not even modeled.

Do different rifles firing same ammo have different ballistics?
Beltfed posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Does the AK-74 have the same accuracy as an AKS even though for former has a longer barrel and should be more accurate? I read where someone thought that the ballistics of a shot are determined by the round fired and have nothing to do with the rifle it was fired from. I find this hard to believe as Arma 2 is supposed to be realistic. Can anyone clear this up for me? Or, for another example, is a 7.62x39mm round trajectory exactly the same no matter what it is fired from? Thanks, Chris -

Good! Thank you. -
"Building on 10 years of constant engine development, ARMA II boasts the most realistic combat environment in the world. It models real world ballistics & round deflection, materials penetration," This led me to get really excited and think that, yes, finally, Arma will have some realistic armor fights! I lost interest in Arma 1 because of the hit point system. I immediately bought Arma 2 thinking that things had changed. Was I wrong? Or when I fire a T-72s main gun at another T-72 is there "real world ballistics & round deflection, materials penetration,"? Thanks for any info! Chris

What does this quote from the BIS site mean?

See, that is awesome. WTG BIS :) -
What does this quote from the BIS site mean?
Beltfed replied to Beltfed's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Still hit points eh? Crap, that quote misled me then. Oh well, still a great sim anyways. -
Too bad they don't just model penetration. I wonder why they don't just put it in? Even if it takes awhile it would make the game twice as good if there was penetration modeled.

Could this be possibly the best game in history?
Beltfed replied to TheMonster's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Excellent combined arms sim. Is it the Holy Grail? No, but closer than anything else. Nice work BIS. -
Does that mean we have real armor now on our tanks? Or is it still possible to kill a M1A2 with mgs like in arma 1?
-
Yep, I would say that is the biggest flaw.
-
The AK74SU has the same trajectory as the AK74? That is a bit lame... ---------- Post added at 08:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:23 PM ---------- Why go through the trouble os making the 3D models if ya can't even adjust the different ballistics?
-
Ah ok, that is cool. I would love some realistic penetration physics on anything armored though.
-
Do we have armor penetration in Arma 2 now? The old hit point system was my biggest issue with this otherwise fantastic series.
-
I saw somewhere a chart that showed what range all the Arma 2 rifles are sighted to. Can anyone please remind me where that chart is? Thanks!

Looking for Tips on Increasing Situational Awareness
Beltfed replied to pseudointellectual's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
It may be that it is just really hard because it is so realistic? Imagine being a real soldier in a hot fire-fight; people get killed a lot (yourself included). ---------- Post added at 03:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:36 PM ---------- Sorry, that sounded pedantic and I did not mean it that way. -
I already bought the game but if I hadn't this certainly would have pushed me over the precipice. This looks like CGI on steriods but it's just (possible) gameplay!? Holy *(&^.

What is the reference point for "o'clock" communications?
Beltfed posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
When someone in my squad says "Man. 12 o'clock. Close" or whatever, is he talking about my 12 or his own 12? Thanks and fantastic game so far! Chris -
Really? I think the game is great.
-
I agree as well, excellent work. This sim is going to keep me busy for years. The graphics and how smoothly it runs with them are the best I have ever seen.
-
Game has been damn close to perfect for me so far. Amazing how many units you can play as in this. I haven't run into bugs but I hear there are some. Runs very smooth on my AMD quad 9500 with 9800 GT card in 1980x1020 res on very high settings. Only things I don't like are the silly voice acting sometimes and how often and easily I get killed (actually I do like the realism and difficulty so scratch that).

So if I happen to be the squad leader for the mission then all calls will be to my position. Thanks all!
