Arma 2 just makes me think of EA and their cashcow BF2142. which was built basicly after they beta tested it with BF2 and several addon packs! Now we suckers have Beta Tested Arma, and Arma2 is about to come out Just like BF2142.. I wont be slapped in the face again and will not be buying Arma2 , i fell for the hype once and was bitterly dissapointed (I still play OFP over Arma not by choice but simply because OFP runs! I came back to this forum today in the hope that a new patch might be available, that perhaps people had ironed things out and i can finally run this game that has sat silent, unused on this PC for several months now.. But no, First thing i see is 'Arma 2' link, instant dissapointement hits me and then i find we are still only at patch 1.8 with a possible hotfix for those that want to risk it. C'mon.......  Too use a great austrlian tv quote.. Not Happy Jan!

I cant get past the 1st mission where you have to climb and snipe a convoy from the water tower. Its either get stuck and get shot or fall to death..

A: Ive reinstalled TOCA3 Â Â and B: 1.08 patch totally ruined ARMA for me on this PC. These new drivers, 163.11 have made ARMA fully playable, not an image glitch or stutter insight so far, I drove the toyota for an hour after flipping thru the viewer with barely a delay between items as I have a similiar car myself and it was Fun!.. at last. It also made Vista visuals load instantly (Aero), I didnt even know it could load faster, I didnt even know that there was even a problem! 3 cheers for the folks making these drivers Â

After reading how well it ran on what I consider older systems, I installed it on my 4 yr old XPpro system that ive rarely used except for older games since building the new Vista system. Now I cant believe my eyes, patch 1.08 is running great, vis is only set to 2km but most other settings are higher then my Vista PC. Its doesnt look stunning Graphicly , but it runs and all the textures are there and Ive had it running for about 2 hours now without fail   So in a way im Happy yet still dissapointed.. Guess I'll take it out on the game now that i can Â

Nothing like letting off some steam.. Tho because ive tasted what it can be like, Ive pushed on and fiddled with a whole heap of settings and still end up at the same point, CTD's or just plain freezes. Ive now turned AA off, looks shit but definatly runs smoother, moved vis down to 5km, looks shit but is playable, every other settings other than blood is on normal.. looks shit but is playable.. Â for all of 5 mins After posting my reply above I went straight to the troubleshooting thread to find an 18 page thread on 1.08 and its issues, by the time I got to page 18 , 8 more pages had been added! Feel free to call me stupid or whiney but too me that seems to reek of some kinda of issues... Â

After applying 1.08 which went suprisingly smooth and was succesfull, and then experiencing crash after crash, reboot after reboot. All this after Ive moved the settings down to Normal from High which i was running on v1.05 (trying high on 1.08 just murders my PC)... vis down from 10km to 6km. Inbetween each section of the start of the campaign it freezes up, I have to endlessly hit escape key then click continue untill it loads the cut scene.. where it finally went from the black screen to the view from the front seat of the 2nd hummer, the 1st hummer looked like a 40ft deformed cactus that stretched out to the right and into the distance. The only thing that ran for about 20 mins was a session with the 4WD in the 'Viewer' where I did some driving challanges and found it quite fun.. When this game does run, It runs well and looks simply stunning but the crash's so far are outweighing the enjoying minutes. Viewing a animation of the APC.. crashed the pc I dunno wether to call it the final straw for me or not. After watching untextured buildings and vehicles in the cut scenes leading upto the jeeps in the campaign.. Only to put up with following a hedgehog and a Driver (who couldnt to save his life) to make it into town and freeze up again... The quote just sums it up for me. Sorry BIS, just had to Rant.. bring on 1.09 Â Â

Well as soon as I spotted it online I hounded the Australian Publisher for details as to when and where I could buy the packaged game. March 26th I picked it up for $90au at 'Dick Smiths', its been almost 10 weeks and ive managed to do the training, with somewhat hideous Graphics and thats it, Anything else I try is unplayable. 1.05 is the version, 1.07 patch had me hoping but i see now thats been moved to 1.08 and still no sign of it coming anytime soon. I Just hope its not going for $20au now at the local 'Walmart'.... Means Ive paid $70au for the privladge of having sit idle on my HD. (There should be a law against rushed games.)

Yes.. noted that too, or any other real bug fixes. Seems to be mostly cosmetic changes ? Thanks for the short list of fixes, Be nicer to of been able to play the game long enough to notice them meself. Still, least you guys are working on it. More info on fixing the Vista and 8800 please, Even if the answer is 'See Windows and Nvidia for advice' (Anyone out there rich enough and running any Gfx cards higher than an 8800 ? Â Hows Arma Run ? )

I was having issues, Thanks to this thread I now have the same settings as above (tho res is 1600x1200 (EDIT: And Settings are High, not Very High) and its hasnt crashed yet and is looking supurb. Who woulda thunk anti alias should be set on low on a high end system! I had so much fun I caught myself slurring 'who needs a patch?' ... Â Â Happy shooting at last, Cheers fella's. Ive just spent me sunday fitting in the 2nd 8800GTS and then the next few hours installing the drivers, to find SLI not working.. Few google searchs later, Find its a bios Issue and to use the Beta's.  Use the Beta's, reboot after flashing and my OS could not be found.  Not being that PC savy, Panick set in. Bit of BIOS fiddling later i spot the RAID was off. One lesson learned I guess. End product.... CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core 5200+ 2613 Memory: 4096 Motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer INC. And ArmA , the mission i tried.. Basic Helicopter manuevers. Whilst walking the screen would flash white, and slowly build up to the speed that would set epileptics off. Everything then washs out white, resets again to normal textures and restarts the whole flashing process. Entering the helicopter stopped it, apon starting the engine it flashed a few times but cleared.. It appeared again for about 6 seconds on the way to get the troops. Only other issue i had was the Fog.. Coulda been the weather  And the 'rubber band effect'  (smooth then the mild pause.. smooth etc)  Im used to it from a game called Trainz and funny thing I found was that in the helicopter, There was no rubber banding.. just smooth flying. Till it crashed into a desktop. My distance is set at about 5km and most settings are above average, The game looks sweet.. If only I could enjoy it for longer than 2 mins because so far it doesnt go much longer than that and just crashs to desktop. Is there any hope a patch could bring it up to run on Dual core\SLI's better than it does now or is it another package to shelve and wait for next offering from them ? (Hey I still love their work, even if it doesnt currently work for me) Bit of a waffle n rant but oh well.. Â

I bought it a month or so ago and it goes Gold only now  ?? Im i wrong in thinking that anything before Gold is just beta and therfore my shelf packaged version of ARMA (au v1.05) is nothing more than a Beta ? and i paid for it thinking it was the 'Gold' ? So now not only are we getting alot of new games ,Never exactly fully complete and left to the users to fix and finish after a few patchs, which i guess can have its good sometimes, Falcon 4.0 comes to mind. I Gotta say im impressed with all the patchs so far for ARMA, least they are trying. Fs9 and MSTS still have 1 patch each. I have hope for the game , tho still waiting on nvidia for 8800 sli vista drivers.. so i can SLI this game and get playing, Ive done the training but the texture, jerkyness and other issues mentioned across the board. keep me from firing it up.. And real truth is Supreme Commander just has to be finished! But then SLI has also been mentioned as an issue.. Bring on the next patch BSI Â

Well that sucks .. Why dont Bohemia say that on their website or the game packahe itself ? Whats the point of upgrading to a kickarse system If you cant even run the latest games. Any known time frame on just how long I will have to wait to be able to use my.. - Dual Core CPU - VGA SLI Mode - Windows Vista ??? Otherwise I guess I'll take it back for a Refund if its not going to be supported. Cheers for the Info
