Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead - Radial Command Menu
Bouben replied to PacX's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Numbers are the best way. Voted NO. -
Just making it optional should do the trick, no? So I mean not forcing it on the last two difficulty settings, but optional anytime everywhere.
-
Guys, to make it short: Searchlight doesn't really work, right? I mean, AI is absolutely non-affected by that. They don't see anything even if searchlight points at it, right? I tried that without any success. What's your experience? Will your AI without NV actually see if you light their LOS? Thanks
-
Should try it out later. Thanks.

Advanced Combat Environment (A.C.E.) 2 - v1.0 stable
Bouben replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Hello, I got this problem with SIX updater now. http://img249.imageshack.us/i/sixupdaterbug.jpg/ url: http://127.0.0.1:16333/main Mozilla Firefox and IE tried out with the same effect. This happens with the Six Updater - GUI. Firewall completely disabled, full administrator rights in windows. I can use console for updating existing mods, but can't add any new mod that way. It would be enough, if you could tell me, how to add new mods into the console module. Thanks for an answer. -
Unlock viewdistance limit in the next patch???
Bouben replied to xy20032004's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
Really? Maybe I just don't remember exactly. Anyway, I said "I don't think so" and not "I am the only one who knows the truth and has a patent for it." so there is no reason to be offensive. ;) Sorry for distortion. -

Unlock viewdistance limit in the next patch???

I don't think so. I was able to see trees, roads and units too. There were separated files for that. -
Patch 69645 - changes under the hood
Bouben replied to suma's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
Hello there, I've got huge FPS increase even with view distance over 3km on Chernarus but significantly more, sometimes almost permanent stutter. But no texture glitches at all so far. Looking around is super-smooth for me now. ATI RADEON HD 3850 AMD Turion X2 Ultra 64 Mobile 2,20GHZ 4GB DDR As for gameplay: long long firefights, without AK and machinegun snipers and generally more responsive and clever AI. I enjoyed it very much and some of you might know, that I am a very critical player who complains a lot. Very impressed. EDIT: Oh boy, and I am able to increase resolution from 1360x768 to 1680x1050 without any significant performance loss!! Unbeliavable! -
I think, that this effect is based on a simple position definiton (solider is on a road, soldier is on a grass-covered ground) than on some precise calculation based on grass' proportions. Texture itself is just an eye candy and will not provide any cover. It has no function of bushes for example. My experience, I could be wrong, but I am seriously convinced of that.

New Sound Mod in the making, slowly but surely

+ 10000000000000000000000000000000 definetely, it would be perfect, because searching for updated versions here on forums is very chaotic. -
:D ha ha

Please BIS, would you now finally concentrate on fixing the crucial "feature" that you can't hide from an enemy, when you are already spotted just for one time? It is really incredibly annoying. Thank you and have a good time. EDIT: and please, don't want a repro mission from me. You must know, what is in your AI code. If it is included, or not. No offence. This is not a sometimes happening bug, this is a rule.
-
Thats absolutely right! And that is the whole point god damn it! Are you other guys so ****ing stupid that you dont get it??? Jesus christ you ARMA defenders. I dont like you. You have obviously no problem with skipping the whole thread just to start bitching about realism and giving totally exaggerated and nonsense examples. Try to think a little before you start write something! WHAT AI DOES IS A BUG, IT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH REALITY AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED. End of story. End of this comedy. Sorry admins, but my nerves...
-
You totally dont get it. Sorry. Just read it couple more times and then write. Thanks. ---------- Post added at 05:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:52 PM ---------- That's right! And it is functional with objects such as rocks, buildings, bushes, trees and so on. But it is not functional with grass clutter and that is the problem. In reality, you have a possibility to hide in grass and change position, but in ARMA2 you don't have such a possibility. Because grass is not counted as a object, which blocks AI's LOS, so you can't actually hide in grass. AI still see you as if nothing were standing in their LOS. I've made many tests with grass and then with objects such as bushes, buildings and so on, and AI were really NOT able to track me when I used only objects for cover. That's good. But once I tried to sneak out of battle crawling 500 m from them in tall grass (absolutely no chance to see me in reality) they spotted me.
-
That's right. No matter what you do within those 3 - 5 minutes, they know about you. Moreover, grass is not counted in AI's LOS in this situation so you are completely fixed on object as a bushes, rocks, houses and so on. Therefore there is no way, how to change your position, because once you leave your cover (it means rocks, bushes, houses, walls) and try to be hidden by grass, you fail no matter what. So you defacto wait till enemy comes to your fixed hiding place. There you go, guys. So...I think this should be solved quite well by giving grass some abillity to hide objects (i mean soldiers) from AI's LOS.
-
False. This is the ideal condition, which never happens. Once you are spotted, they will see you THROUGH a grass, even crawling, and therefore, you can't change your position without being spotted and tracked EXACTLY. Once they've spotted you, you are pinpointed (not just roughly estimated, simply exactly pinpointed) and your stealth abilities are counted no more. This have nothing to do with their intelligence. This is a pure artificial cheating. They can't see through rocks, buildings etc. but they will never lost your track. I test this "feature" carefully, so I know, that your claim is unfortunately not truth. You can sneak up an enemy, if you're never noticed before, but once you are then you have no chance to hide.

A.C.E. Advanced Combat Environment - Public Beta!
Bouben replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I think, that SIX UPDATER is pretty easy to use, if you will fairly read the manual. That's the trouble. Most people don't wanna bother with reading something. -
A.C.E. Advanced Combat Environment - Public Beta!
Bouben replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Yes, I know I can do that, but it will change spotting skills globally, right? I mean, I have no problem with spotting a walking person 500 m away, but person in prone position in grass and with sniper camouflage shouldn't be seen, right? I mean, no matter if a attacked soldier is a total veteran with a super experience, he should not be able to spot something what can not be spotted. I understand, that you can track a sniper if he fires a couple of times, but after one shot on 400 - 500 m in open enviroment... I mean, is this engine able to distinguish these things? Is this programmable in ARMA 2? -
A.C.E. Advanced Combat Environment - Public Beta!
Bouben replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
One thing by which ACE really screws up the whole game is AI's spotting skills. I mean, they are able to detect a sniper after one shot even on 400 meters in open enviroment with grass everywhere. And they do that very well. They'll pinpoint you in seconds and then you have a problem. Just like in vanilla 1.0. That's critical. Same with the ZEUS AI mod. Both are great mods otherwise, but this is a big con. I think, I need to play vanilla now :-( -
ARMA II Beta Builds Released: Latest version/build: 1.04.6xxxx
Bouben replied to mattxr's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
Well, I don't think that there is so big lack of cover in ARMA 2 enviroment. I mean I would rather see my mate running over a 300m long empty field for cover behind a tree without any stop in his movement than to see him stop in a crossfire and getting killed because a "tracking" OPFOR machingunner's fire finally caught him this way. I mean, flanking is a real pain in the ass with actual bounding overwatch behaviour. -
