I suppose you are kidding...a lot. Once again, the problem IS REPRODUCED, HAS IT'S TICKET AND IS ASSIGNED. And your opinion that it may happen on only few machines, so it is computer based is absolutely ridiculous and may showing how superficial is your understanding of what the engine does. And please, don't speak for BIS, they've never said anything like that. You simply don't get it and I suppose you even have not read my special comment for you to clarify. ---------- Post added at 03:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:14 PM ---------- Yes...perhaps we're from a different planet or something... ---------- Post added at 03:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:16 PM ---------- No, I am not, because they don't have to search for you in grass. They will instantly pinpoint you.
-
Unfortunately - THEY ARE. But only ONCE (this is an important word here) you have been spotted in whatever situation in whatever place and your knowsAbout is activated. Then it is impossible in whatever situation in whatever place to hide somewhere in a grass, even if you was fast as light and managed to run away for a kilometer in one second. Untill your knowsAbout is 0, they will find you anytime, anywhere in grass even if grass is higher than a standing man. They can even snipe you in your golden teeth crawling in a meter long grass, because once is your knowsAbout activated, grass is not blocking their LOS anymore. Repeating myself, repeating myself....repeating myself...tired...repeating myself...

It is not the case I was talking about. I absolutely understand, that they will predict from which corner of a house I would pop up, but read my last comment to Richie: Now you should understand what we are talking about. It is about grass NOT blocking AI's LOS. That's it and I am repeating myself like hundred times. It is maybe unbelievable to you, but I know quite well what I am talking about, cause I've spent many hours with this in editor. And of course, this "bug" or simply "unfinished stuff" is already reported for 9 months. See this ticket: AI view not obstructed by grass layer (or woods thicket) which is also reproduced and confirmed and also assigned.
-
Hey, Richie - please, read this carefully. In reality: if you stand up from tall grass and fire on an enemy, he will naturally spot you and return fire and remember your position. But then (imagine, you are 500 meters away) you lay down back in grass. So now you are not seen, but the enemy still knows your last position and continues firing at your position - fair enough. But you decide to crawl away (hidden in grass and not seen) to the left so the enemy must decide where to aim his blind fire to grass around you somewhere in the last spotted area, because he naturally doesn't know in which direction you've decided to go. And imagine, that he've decided to fire mostly to the right so he does not hit you. So you are still alive and crawling to the left, because he's still 500m from you and moreover - firing blindly in a wrong direction. After some 200m of crawling in tall grass you've reached - unseen - some hole and hidden there...and so on. Well, do you finally understand my point? This situation is absolutely impossible in the game because you would not be able to confuse enemy in such a way because once contact is started, enemy will literally ignore grass at all and see every change in your direction even if you are crawling 500m away. So he will not be confused and will not have to decide in which direction put his blind fire. He will simply pinpoint (!) you, because now he see through grass untill knowsAbout reaches 0. That's it. Please, tell me, that you finally understand, what I mean. I have a suspicion for terrible misunderstanding because I've never said, that I should vanish in grass after I lay down again and enemy should forget. Thanks, and have a good time.

The single most annoying problem with allied AI right now
Bouben replied to turin turambar's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Absolutely true. -
That is NOT TRUE. Everything except grass is blocking AI's LOS. Grassy areas have only some penalty system based on a zone where you are. No LOS system. There is even a ticket on the bug tracker and it is reproduced and confirmed by several testers. Look at my signature links. Please DEVs, confirm or rule out. Thank you. ---------- Post added at 03:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:46 PM ---------- Thank you, that's exactly it. ---------- Post added at 03:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:48 PM ---------- You are right. My apologize. That basicly confirms my simplified explanations about how is system working but there was no reason to attack the myth. Sorry.

I understand your point. That's quite possible, but it could be solved by AI blind fire in your approximate position and so on.
-
This is unbelievable. Don't you see that AI is not even CONFUSED??? That they without any doubt know EXACTLY where you are?? That they have some kind of magical radar system in their heads and are able to EXACTLY PINPOINT you even if you are in a TALL GRASS?? Or are YOU able to pinpoint ANYTHING even firing a gun if it is hidden in a tall grass??? They SHOULD NOT forget that something happened, but they SHOULD NOT be able to know your position in grass EXACTLY. It is so ******* simple to understand. I can't believe that this AI behaviour isn't at least strange to anyone... Do some in-game AI reasearch before you catch a wrong side of the stick again. Again and again - AI LOS is not blocked by grass after they've ONCE spotted you - X-RAY vision takes place. That's it. This is nothing about AI intelligence. This is simple cheating and makeshift workaround. Why don't you get it? Am I from Mars or something? Really, somebody who actually understands in-game AI system, please, help me explain to these people what I mean. I am obviously unable to write it simple and clear enough so they still talk about "realism and intelligence". Thank you.
-
No, Suma wasnt lying. He was talking about penalty. Thats all. No LOS effect. Once you fire a round you are unable to hide anymore untill enemy's knowsabout disappear. Grass does not hide you like bushes or houses for example does. That's it.
-
Oh god, again... Please, firstly do some reasearch how is AI doing what they are doing. Grass layer does NOT affect AI in any way. It is for multiplayer PvP purposes only. Grass texture itself is just an eyecandy and does NOT obscure AI's line of sight. And also consider to read up what "knowsAbout" in a game code means. That will explain you a lot and you will definitely grow sober from this naive conviction that AI is "real" or whatever fans of this game so eagerly say while gammon about "hardcore simulation" and "go play MW2 if you can't stand this real combat experience"... Thank you.
-
AI seeing through grass is not mythbusted at all. It is a pure fact. People involved more deeply into this particular problem will agree. So please, do not spread the myth.

Aren't those guys in the videos actually correcting their aim when firing, so their hands are painful after few magazines but you can't see the recoil? I've never fired a real world gun so I am just suggesting.
-
Which recoil model do you prefer?
Bouben replied to celery's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
SWAT 4 has an excellent recoil model. It was really hard to shoot in full auto while moving. I really enjoyed that. edit: and from what I can see in video I think that it's great that you have to manually put it down after each burst. Very realistic and will add more thirlling into firefights. No need for having ARMA to be an easy game. -
Slow performance near trees and bushes is back?
Bouben replied to mr.g-c's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
I've also noticed significantly worse performance in forests. -
OA multicam reskins - Getting MC right.
Bouben replied to Fox '09's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
No, just a green version of new models from OA which are in a desert skins only yet. Sorry for confusion. -
Enemy AI knows your position when you blow up satchel charges
Bouben replied to Undeceived's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
You're not mistaken. This IS a bug. Very annoying one. -
OA multicam reskins - Getting MC right.
Bouben replied to Fox '09's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Excellent. Now if somebody could reskin new vehicles and armor which are only in desert camo yet. -
When should AI subordinates use the "bounding overwatch" movement
Bouben replied to suma's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
Yes, I also can't understand the fact, that this behaviour is still not fixed. I don't enjoy laggy multiplayer so I wanna play with my AI in my custom missions. -
Yes, I would also like to know how this works. Because sometimes I order one unit to advance and next 4 soldiers is following him, which is not always what I want them to do.
-
You know what? In OFP there were NO PROBLEMS with AI driving. I absolutely can't get it why now, in modern games era AI can't do such a basic thing. Maybe because of "micro AI" ? - I also agree that there should be AI as a highest priority thing. It ruins whole gameplay.

A.C.E. 2 - v1.2 stable (Advanced Combat Environment)
Bouben replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Hello, I can't for some reason update ANYTHING by updater. Here's the abstract of the LOG: I get this "STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION" for every mod folder being updated. In the end I can't get any update at all. I tried to do clean reinstall of SIX but with the same result. It seems as if connection to those update-servers is blocked but I also tried to disable firewall and antivirus. Please help. Thank you in advance. -
Just give him command "no target" and that should reset his "watch command".

Hi, if I have these specs, what kind of exThreads command I should use for the best performance and beta benefits? Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP2 AMD Turion X2 Ultra ZM-82 2211.5 MHz DDR2 4096 ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 3850 (MSI) 512mb Thank you. ADD: yes and I also feel some performance improvement with this patch, but can't say exactly how big yet. nevertheless, outside cities almost super-smooth experience with normal details and post-process off.
