Still shocking performance hit on 6800GT (i dont know if its because running at 1600x1200 4xAA, so its got quite a bit of stuff to reflect there ), plus the control panel on these drivers is not fully operational for setting up game profiles as they are still beta drivers. Ive gone back to the 81.95 just to get my control panel back

Its the MANX TT by the way not MAX :P Looks good anyway, might beable to sort you out with some ref material as a girlfriend and her mum go over to the IOM quite regularly.

In the OFP Elite video the tanks keep driving off the bridge on the video, you reckon bis have made an invisible road section with no geo properties or textures so the ai will try to follow it then just placed normal objects so it 'appears' the vehicles are using the actual destroyable bridge but in fact they are actually following the roadway of an invisible road but are held up by the actual object of the destroyable bridge sections? Has anyone tried this in OFP? Could this be a way to implement it into OFP as we stand now?

That i do But not quite the same as DiB. Just an invisible road section spanning the gap to actualy make the Ai drive across the 'breakable' bridge objects.

I think Armed Assualt is a canny move by BIS. 1. Keeps the exsisitng community happy and tide over till "ofp2" 2. Reawakens new interest in the franchise. 3. Draws away from the now unusable by BIS Operation Flashpoint brand. Bis can now cement a new name for the realistic war sim franchise by releasing OFP 1.5 under a different name, which they then can carry over to "OFP2" - Armed Assault 2 anyone???

Id like to see the engine support 'dynamic' decals to the body / vehicle? Bullet holes wherever you hit, etc. Also blood effects onto objects. Is this too much detail? Will it be possible seeing as this is just an evolution engine?

Ive a feeling the damage is not as immersive as you imagine. I tihnk the buildings will have pre-determined 'break' areas and will only fall 'dynamically' with the physics engine. Having said that most games are like that anyway. Just on a large scale (ie buildings) it will be more noticeable they break in the same places. Maybe a few diff versions of each building with diff break areas to add some variety.

Seems all my Cold War / Original OFP sound EFFECTS have stopped functioning. ie: Menu clicks, footsteps, M16, breathing. Anything introduced in reistance or 3rd party addons still works. All music still works, all radio. Not likely a hardware/driver problem as its a brand new machine, and it happened on my old one also. It fixed itself after a large in-game lockup/freeze last time, but nothing i do fixes it this time. Tried reinstall, reinstall sound drivers, reinstall sound card. Could it be an audio codec imcompatibility? I know other games use .ogg. Many thanks BAM

Ok seem to have found the problem. File called CTHELPR.exe keeps planting itself on my pc. NOT CTHELEPER.exe (creative sounds file). Everytime i remove it and reboot it fixes the issue. It also creates skipping in ALL other 3d applications, but ofp is the only one where it removes/hides any kind of file. I cant find ANYTHING on google/yahoo about this file, anyone else had any experience with it? It plonks itself on "C:/WIINT/system32/CTHELPR.exe" which is where avast goes mad and says raa raa raaa virus virus, but also on "E:/CTHELPR.exe" - which is another partition of the drive.

Yep DXdll does make a considerable performance hit on the 6 series card. But at 1600x1200x32 with 2xAA and 8xAF with most things maxxed (for MP games which is all i play ground is low and view is mission set) i would expect it too. The frame rates are still awsome though and the game is just eaten alive, no matter the island, addons or action taking place.

Guess no more republic commando for me Problem is it requires a full reinstall of windows to cure the missing .pbo problem :'(

Another thing against an expansion pack like that would be the probable incompatability with many mods and addons? Different head models, pixel shaders etc? -
Onboard AC97 7.1 on an MSI K8N Neo2 Plat mobo :5.10.0.5620 drivers amd64 3500 Asus 6800GT : 66.72 drivers Windows 2000pro Seems to have happened upon installing/playing Star Wars Republic Commando. Tried 2 diff paths on install. Also tried fresh install of windows. Worked fine, again (I think) until Republic Commando was installed. I know it also uses the .ogg format like ofp. The strange thing is the sound.pbo file is not visible in the dta folders in normal windows (or looking on the ofp CD), but in safe mode I can see they are there. Ill try removing all mods. Dont know what else to do really. It strange that its only that 1 .pbo that cant be read. Any Devs here know what could be causing this??

Id say armed assualt (or whatever the 3rd thing is) is expansion for ofp, implementing the pixel shaders we will see in the Xbox version? Who would buy Armed Assault if it was a seperate game on either Xbox or PC? ...Nobody - you would buy ofp XBOX version or OFP2. -

Playstation? There is definately an XBox game : Armed Assault?? There is definately a follow up to OFP on PC : OFP2 - who knows the name. I cant see them developing another game for PC with roughly the same graphics/setting as original ofp - unless its an expansion/graphical update. -

Those shots are the xbox version. The water is diff in the xbox version as is the lighting from the PC version. Ash (Falklands MOD leader), saw the xbox version in action on his trip to BIS studios, its very much like he described. IMO its pretty easy to differentiate between which are Xbox shots and which are the real daddy shots -

Ok it seems as if the sounds.pbo file is gone. A fresh reinstall does nothing, it still doesnt appear. I tried to delete some tmp folders from an old install and it said folder was not empty - it was though, and i got the same thing with an unzipped folder of kylikki sound pack. It seems my Pc is not recognising some .pbo files with sounds in them or .ogg files from custom sounds. I can see them in safe mode though. ANYONE any ideas? this is driving me nuts!
