    Custom faces

Has anybody posted a tut on exactly how to do these? I have the template and it's very useful but a more complex tut would be greatly appreciated. I read some pages back somebody was going to translate one but I'm not sure if it has been posted. Thanks in advance

    USAF

About Foreigners joining the US Military. You can in fact join the US Military if you are a foreigner. However, certain restrictions apply and I’m not sure if all US branches accept them. You must either have a Green Card or be a Resident alien of the US before joining. Many Mexicans join either the National Guard or Army to obtain a green card. What jobs you can do though are extremely restricted, as you will have a very tough time getting a security clearance. So no test pilots, no guarding sensitive material or working on secret missions. Usually you can only be a standard ground soldier or gunner of some type. There’s even a commercial of the US Army with a Russian that is now a tanker in the Army. I do know the US Army and Nation Guard accept foreigners but not sure about the USAF or other branches. I also don’t know if this has changed since the Trade Center attack either.

Yeah, I don't think they issue new woodland uniforms that aren't digital. I perfer the new camo myself

    Marine assault pack

I wasn't trying to make it appear this addon was after Iraq Marines or anything else for that matter. Simply showing that Marines still do use woodland color and I didn't say anybody should reskin them. People were flaming each other over rather or not they still did and I was trying to keep the discussion civil. Although this is quite a hostile place thus my low posting count. You guys scare off new people

    Marine assault pack

Not trying to get into your argument guys. But the Marines are indeed a separate Military branch. US Marines do wear cloth hats and sometimes not hats at all for recon work. Here is a picture from the USMC homepage. It is small but at the bottom there is a link for a high res and low res blow up. http://www.usmc.mil/marinel....ocument Typically recon units of all nations will wear soft cover as they usually travel long distances and stealth is required. A helmet is both heavy and can cause noise. Besides, if you’re a good recon unit you won’t be under any fire heavy enough to require a ballistic helmet To an extent your both right. Normally a main assualting unit would wear a helmet but it depends on circumstance

    Marine assault pack

They still do. There are plenty of pictures of USMC in Iraq wearing both standard woodland and 3 color desert. I've even seen a few running around on TV in just plain OD green uniforms. Although I think they are tank crew There's a great pictures on the offical USMC site

    Söldner : secret wars

I bought it as well. I'm really not impressed and it has nothing to do with me being an OFP fan. First thing, The physics are extremely poor. The vehicles feel like they don't have any weight at all. The IFV's and Tanks can turn on a dime at full speed. You can do a complete 180 turn in a spilt second without sliding. They also gain full speed way too fast. I'm talking Zero to Flat Out in about 3 seconds. Just an example of the physics. I took my M1 Abrams out for a spin. I thought I'd blow up some stuff. The blowing up of buildings was nice as was the craters I was able to blow in the ground. I then went to knock down some trees. I ran into a tree, a small tree at that. My tank was hung up on the tree after it feel down. This tiny tree was holding my tank in the air as if I drove it up a ramp. I tried to move the tank but it wouldn't move. After about 10 seconds my tank just blew up. The AI in the game is virtually nonexistent. Even the bots in Battlefield are better. A LOT better. However, I can over look that as it was designed as a pure MP game anyway. The graphics are poor for a newer game but then graphics aren't everything. The game does look exactly like the demo. The full game doesn't have anything else to offer over the demo other than more weapons and vehicles. It feels, plays, and looks just like the demo. So if you didn't like the demo then don't bother with the full version. Soldner (I can't do that funny little dot thing) is like a budget Battlefield series game. I never thought I'd praise BF1942/ BF:V but I would highly recommend those games over Soldner. If your looking for a modern combat game like Soldner then wait until Battlefield 2 comes out. If you can't wait that long then download the BF1942 Desert Combat mod or play BF:V. Battlefield is far superior. I took my copy of Soldner back and traded it in for UT2004 so I could play the Red Orchestra mod. Not sure if that mod has been discussed but I would recommend any OFP player that likes WWII foot soldier combat to take a look at this MP mod. It's excellent http://redorchestramod.gameservers.net/

    Game physics

That's because Soldner's devs had no real intention of making things realistic. Everything is based on a very simple model. OFP has pretty good phyics as is compared to Soldner. This free one is actually very good if you use it right.

    Flashpoint 2 at e3

Well it was a poor choice of words. It might not be that early in development but that the devs feel like it's too early to show anything. Then again it's most likely Codematers and their crappy system of marketing I'm sure some info will come out... At least I really hope so Just throw us a crumb oh mighty OFP gods

    Flashpoint 2 at e3

I think it won't be shown because it's still early in development. I read a while ago that it won't be here until late 2004 and possibly 2005. I think it's better to with hold info until closer to the release date. I hate when awesome screens for a game come out. Only to find that game to be 1-2 years away. I'd like to see some new updates about OFP2 but I can understand them not being at this E3. It would also make for a good marketing strategy. Again, most attention will be on HL2 and Doom 3. OFP will just be buried underneath all of the fake promise the devs of those two games say again this year

The current main problems in ofp

I have many UBI account names. Mainly because I rarely use them. Most games can still connect through the console. Once I find a good server I write down the IP and bypass the entire process. As somebody stated you could also just make many XML accounts. So being able to ban one XML file is rather useless. The key would be to give each player a unique ID based on their CD Key. Then again OFP I think, already has this. I dislike the idea of a cheaters site. For one, what evidence will need to be brought fourth to totally ban a user from all OFP servers? I was accused of cheating on an OFP server. Until I actually had to show the admin how to properly aim his rifle. Apparently he figured if you can shoot somebody at 200 meter while they are running in a straight line your cheating. Now because of this person I could be banned for all OFP servers. That doesn't sound fair at all. The best thing to do is just ban the user on YOUR server. I understand cheating is a great fear but there is no need to start burning villagers because somebody wants to cheat. You'll do more harm than good by forcefully banning people (some of whom will be innocent and just pulled off a lucky shot) to an eternal hell of not being able to play a game they bought online. I know why you want to do it but there are so many problems that come along with that. What about the bandwidth issues? How much webspace would it use? How much GB of traffic a month will the site use? Who will pay for it? Should BIS pay for it? I'd rather see BIS spend more money on making the game better and not setting up a site for server admins too lazy to police their own server. This isn't meant to be mean or come off as a confrontation. It's just to show how many problems this brings up and it does so for very little gain.

    Kuma war

If the US Gov was behind it I'm sure it would have better graphics Just look at AA. It's nothing more than some mediocre programers cashing in on a fad. People are obsessed with reenacting battles. The idea of "playing the news" is very attractive to a lot of younger (13-19) people. It's the same reason why WWII games sell so well. What real difference does it make if it happened 60 years ago or 60 days? In a marketing sense, not much. This isn't a moral issue because it's business. Since when have you ever seen business act moral

    Upcoming lost brother addons

Wow this is looking great!! It's sad that more addon makers don't seem interested in these conflicts. The wars between 1967-73 are really interesting. There is a variety of equipment used on both sides and some of the best good old fashion infantry fighting you'll ever want. Keep up the good work!!

The current main problems in ofp

I don't think cheating is that big in OFP. The problem with having to register is that it over complicates things. That's why I dislike UBIsoft and their MP setup. Usually I have to register an account with UBI to play online. The same problem would occur if you had a website of suspected cheaters. As a server admin it's simply easier for me to kick or ban the guy from my server and leave it at that. He's somebody else's problem now. Now I know that sounds selfish but that's the way a lot of people are sadly. The biggest problem with MP that I see is the addons. I have a lot of missions that use outdated addon versions. So I end up having to have 2 or 3 versions of the same addon. This could be fixed if a lot of addon makers make future version backwards compatible. Some of them are but not all. I'm not a mod maker or coder but I know sometimes that is impossible or simply not easy. The easiest way to fix this is for servers to make a website and list all of the addons they use on the game server and the link to get them. In the server name you could give that website so any player can get a list of what your running.

    Multiplayer

I like the idea of JIP or even respawn. I've dropped connection a lot of times only to have to wait for the current game to end. After about 10 minutes of waiting I simply go play something else. It's gotten to the point that I don't play OFP online much because of the hassle of finding a game. I don't feel JIP or respawn is going to take away from the tactical style of the game itself. I think their should be a countdown to allow players back in the game. This could be set by the server. So if you join a mission while it's on going or die you have to wait a certain amount of time before you can enter the battle. Reinforcements are a fact of warfare. I personally have served in the military and there were times where I was dropped into a situation where I had no clue about what was going on. I think that would only add to the element of tactical play because those that join in will be at a disadvantage. Besides, if a person doesn't read the briefing before joining they wouldn't have read it anyway. You could still have respawn and tactical game play. Of course if the respawn counter is too low then it might cause some problems. However, on a public server usually the main idea is to have fun. Not to go over hardcore tactics. That's what private servers are for. Fact is, not everybody has time to sit and wait. I love OFP but I just don't have the time to wait 20 minutes before playing. Then spend 30 to 60 minutes playing. In a lot of cases you could complete an entire mission in the time you spend waiting. I know a lot of people want absolute realism but their comes a point between realism and playability. OFP has great realism and game play. But the MP playability is very lackluster.

    Is this possible?

Hello, just wondering what are your opinions and if it would be possible to be able to switch between the men in your unit? The reason I ask is because when I control my troops I give them areas to move. Sometimes they get there without problems but other times they just seem to go out of their way to get shot. While setting up an ambush outside of Lipany I told 2 men to hide in some bushes to my left. While giving commands to other men in my squad I turned back only to see my 2 men crawling right out in the open. Instead of moving to the bush in a straight line they went in front of the first house then towards the bush. Needless to say they got shot up along with my plans of setting a good ambush. So, I thought it might be nice to be able to switch between the members of my unit so I can make their movement more precise. Any opinions? I could see how this could make for some unnecessary micromanagement but I think it would be a cool option.

    Is this possible?

Well H&D2 had that and I didn't find that it took away anything. Also I like how in H&D2 you could actually plot a series of waypoints and your team would follow those. It also put a line on the screen so you could see if they would be going in any odd direction. Although even their AI wasn't very great. It's not a major problem but I thought it would be cool to have more control over your team. Of course with the updated AI in OFP2 what I'm asking for might not be needed
