sockets or directplay.. huh ? please explain !

Ive checked it all out. A friend has the same upload speed as me and he can host games of 8(+/-) fine. The modem comes into my computer via the in built NIC - not USB What server settings ? when i look in my network connections it says im connected at 100.0Mbps ( 100x faster than my actual 1.0Mbps connection) When i host games and im the only one playing its fine, but when 1 more person joins it slows down. Im on XP home ed, with an official Pentium 4 CPU - not a celeron. I have no spyware So.. what do you think it could be ? All other games i host are fine, its just OFP that seems to hate my pc !

It happens when i host, and people join my game. Map / mission are irrelevant, its just when people connect to my server, no matter what map or mission its on Â

Does anybody know why when i try to host a game of OFP my game slows down so much my frame rate drops from the usual 40fps+ to about 10fps ? Ive tried turning everything off, firewall, antivirus, everything yet when i host it kills my pc ! Ive set the game to run in 640x480, with all GFX options off and yet it still runs like a legless donkey. Normally in single player or when i dont host, i run the game in 1152x1024 res, and high details. People say its my upload speed, yet i know people who can host just fine and their upload is half the speed of mine - so whats going on ? Even if i try to host a 1v1 match my pc slows really bad. My benchmark from the GOTY auto-detect comes out at 4573 ! So whats going on ?!? My pc specs are: XP HE P4 2ghz 512DDR ram 120gb HD GF FX 5700 256mb DDR 1024kbps downstream / 256kbps upstream Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers.
