This is a question about the original PC release of Operation Flashpoint. Does anyone know where the stock sound effects came from? Particularly, the sound of two tanks colliding. I hear that sound all the time on TV and in movies. I wish I knew what it was called.
-
Hmmm... to unify these two ideas, if A is for Aussies, and B is for Brits, then C would have to be for Canadians, who could be deployed by whichever side had better snacks! Operation Flushpoint: It's 2015 and the Commonwealth has splintered into factions squabbling over who has the best beer!
-
But that's just crazy! It has to be new and different just for the sake of being new and different!

Do we have any info about the soundtrack to ArmedA? The soundtrack to the original series was excellent. I'm predicting that ArmedA will be a huge hit if they reprise old favourites like Seventh's "Lifeless"!
-
Ok, then. We'll agree that Ondrej rocks and we're hoping to see great things. As far as Seventh goes, I'll take the extra helping that the posters above don't want. I currently have Seventh's "Lifeless" in my Ipod at the moment, at it always brings me back to that Red Hammer mission where everyone was dead and I was injured in the legs and was trying to crawl for the evac helicopter. "Watch you die"... that line had my adrenaline going like nothing else I can think of!
-
That was the best part!
-
I hope they bring in one of the old tunes, but copyright issues might prevent that, I guess.

Can we not set the game during the Cold War again? Or do we have to have it set during the present? The "modern" environment is such a dismal setting for an FPS storyline, other than Tom Clancy-type shooters. One of the things that I liked the best were the iron sights on weapons.

I wouldn't like something without the US, as long as there are scenarios where we can be on the other side. But one thing is for sure: THE TERRORIST IDEA IS PLAYED OUT! One of the things that made OpFlash great is that it was a (mini) clash of titans. Not the US vs. some country having the military equivalent of a hissy-fit!

I just received this letter from BIS Support, and I must admit that it ticks me off: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Justin, please, contact Codemasters who developed Red Hammer campaing. We are not able to help you with it. Thank you. With the best regards Robert Stipek --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let's just deny responsibility for the whole issue, shall we?

I'm yet to see a single game of mine that doesn't have at least a few anomalies (minor or otherwise) thanks to the Catalysts.<span id='postcolor'> Fair enough. But, as some have pointed out, it may be less due to any problem with the drivers than it is from poor support from the software developer. In a year from now, when Radeon cards are the prominent ones, we may be seeing the same problem with NVidia cards. I mean, it's entirely absurd that ATI as a company is incapable of releasing good drivers. The company doesn't set out to make the best hardware on the market and then let the software "work itself out". It's not like they never thought of hiring away someone competent from NVidia, or tripling their software budget. -
I'm just wondering how it is possible that you got direct speaking to work, but the Global Channel doesn't. Are you sure?

Or the original isn't yours, or you don't really have the original and you want to make a copy of a copy... -
We've probably all seen the video of that guy who likes to throw his "Warthog" around in Halo. Big deal. I was doing that with BRDM's a long time before he came around! What you do is take as many satchel charges as you can find, and plant them under a BRDM. 16-20 is a good number. Detonate them all at once, and the vehicle should fly WAAAAY out of sight. You may have a hard time finding the wreckage. You just have to search farther away than you would think!

Interesting how this quickly turned into a PC vs Console debate. When that happens, objectivity seems to go out the window. Some people are just wired to think that all games must be on the PC. Unfortunately, that is not the case. In fact, many games suck on a PC, most notably head-to-head games such as various Sports titles. There is something to be said for games specifically programmed for 5.1 surround sound, and played on a 36" TV. Personally, I found my Dreamcast version of Rainbow Six to be far better than the PC version, although it was made much later... sort of like X-box OpFl.

Shooting those officers leads to a different (not as heroic! ending sequence than capturing them. It's possible to complete the mission that way (or worse, having the Americans capture the officers), but you get less points, and I think a different cutscene at the end, too.

I constantly hear a common refrain: ATI has crappy drivers. Yet, I've never had a problem with any ATI product at any time going back to their earliest cards. I've also never met anyone who actually has had driver problems. I think this whole concept of lousy ATI drivers is an urban legend started by users who didn't know their Z-buffer from their VCR. -

If you lose contact with a player, type a message for them to jiggle their caps lock key and they will usually get back on track. I am quite upset that VON is not compatible with Sockets. This is one of the best, stand out features of the game. No other VON client I have ever tried can match the robustness of the OpFlash VON, not Battlecom, not Roger Wilco, nothing. I want my Sockets VON!

I am using VIA Hyperion 4in1 version 4.46, released 10 March 2003. I have removed all unofficial add-ons from the \Addons and \Res\Addons folders. There has been no change in the problem. It starts the cutscene, says "You two, stay where you are and give me your weapons", and then dumps to desktop.
-
This is pretty important. I always use VON in multiplayer. This drove me nuts for a long time. Why doesn't it say this in the manual? All it tells you is that Sockets is the recommended implementation.

Help me Avon Lady! Yes, thank God! This is the exact problem I have. It crashes to the desktop in the EXACT spot you have described. My system stats are as follows: Windows 2000 Professional SP3 AMD Athlon XP 1800+ Gigabyte G7VAX Motherboard based on VIA KT-400 Chipset 512 MB PC 2700 DDR RAM Radeon 9000 Pro Sound Blaster Live 5.1 Swapfile 800 MB DirectX 9.0 GOTY 1.91 All drivers are up-to-date, all patches, upgrades, service packs applied. I have never had any kind of problem with OpFlash in any way at all previously. I am A+ and Microsoft Certified, so I doubt there is any kind of hardware conflict. I have found no error report. Please note that this is the last mission of the campaign. I believe it leads to one of three possible endings to the game. I have completed the mission in the other two possible ways, and viewed the ending cinematics. Justin Livitski Thunder Bay, ON
