    Game physics

What do you mean by smooth and natural? You mean like halflife? Unreal? That's not natural. If anything If they improve the movement made the thud of footsteps more pronounced... make stopping from a sprint take a few extra steps to slow down... You don't stop on a dime and you can't strafe from right to left (actually moving, not just swinging your torso left and right) without a brief pause or a slowdown. I think a lot of people especially me, like the movement because it's appropriately limited. It's not (trancending-all-laws-of-physics-and-sensibility-so-that-you-can-circle-strafe-at-60mph -like-some-kind-of-idiotic-attention-deficit-bullcrap-festival). There's nothing realistic or natural about those games. It's more appealing to people who don't like thinking, you know considering basic human limitations and all... if you don't like that. Go play some repetitive circlestrafe festival where you dance around your opponent for 10 seconds filling one another with 10 metric tons of lead. I prefer thinking in my games. I prefer capitalizing on the lack of thinking on behalf of my opponents and exploiting it. From the first person perspective it doesn't look like much now if you mean improving the movement to be more like a human's movement... that is moving further AWAY from the design philosophy of FPS games of the past, like doom and halflife and quake where you ran at 30mph constantly and could strafe and turn effortlessly. Then I'm all for it. I'd also have to agree on a side-note. Trespasser despite terrible bugs. Was really interesting to play. I personally. Despite many people lacking eye-hand coordination. Loved the arm and wrist manipulation idea. Being able to manually aim using the sights on the gun was great. It would have been nice to have some pre-set locations for the gun to be held or to save your own so that you know generally the best way to aim the gun. Not only that but cocking my hand up and holding a pistol sideways "gangsta-style" and busting a cap in a raptors head was wicked good fun. =P Not to mention that trespasser at times had the most detailed and impressive inverse kinematics (ragdoll to the layman) effects. If you shot a raptor in the head while he was running. His head would pitch violently and accurately relative to how he was hit... and usually crumple to the ground all with a realtime animation. I don't recommend that for a game like ofp. Where you were fighting one or perhaps three processor draining raptors in trespasser... OFP's main strength is and should always be it's versatility in creating broad-scale battlefield simulations.

    High detail weapon pack released!

I'd have to agree with some comments on performance here. I'm getting pretty sick of this design philosophy myself. Yeah, they run fine for me... but I'm worried about the future. I'd like to give a wakeup call to these people trying to make OFP compete graphically with games that don't do half of what OFP can do in terms of broad scale battle simulation by essentially lowering the performance so that not only does OFP look slightly better (but still not as good as it's vastly limited contemporaries)... but on the whole doesn't do half of what it could do if designers payed as much attention to usability and the fact that people aren't buying components for their PCs every three months. I mean some people have talked about how BIS models are lacking detail and some addons look better. What?! You don't think BIS could have made more detailed models and textures? That's nothing to brag about. They made a game that was totally groundbreaking for it's time run farily well for the hardware that was available at the time... now that's impressive on a less superficial level. Skilled game design not only stems from a need for visual appeal but also the skill of making something run acceptably on a wide range of pcs... It's something that unfortunately is flagrantly ignored by many addonmakers. at the rate this is going OFP 2 will run better on my pc than ofp will with addons coming out as they do.
  3. I'm not understanding where you specify the path for bin.bat to look when binarizing an addon. Can anyone give me a hand? I didn't quite know whether to put this in an editing forum but they seemed pretty specialized... (either cpp or scripting or O2 related). Apologies in advance.
  4. Tried it. Again I'm an old veteran of dos but I have no idea what you mean by using the cd command to change the path, don't you need to use the batch file? I'm totally lost here. Binarize IT didn't seem to work either. All I get is a program window that remembles dos... since XP only emulates dos... or so I hear... The window says... C:\Ofp\tools\>rem Cemove current content C:\Ofp\tools>rd /s /q Opt\ C:\Ofp\tools>rem Create target directory C:\Ofp\tools>mkdir Opt\ C:\Ofp\tools\rem Perform binarization C:\Ofp\tools>binarize -textures =Opt -exclude =Opt\exclude.lst \Opt C:\Ofp\tools>rem Copy all except model and textures C:\Ofp\tools>xcopy Opt\ /exclude:exclude.txt Obviously there's something wrong with my batch file... and unless someone is willing to spell it out for me how I'm supposed to get this to work. I'm afraid offering help as equivocal as the text file won't help me. - run bin.bat with the addon directory name as parameter (E.g. "bin myaddon") Where's this perameter?! I have no idea where this is supposed to go. Can anyone give me examples here?! If it has anything to do with modifying any of this I'm clueless... what's with the word "rem" before everything? rem Model file optimization rem Cemove current content rd /s /q Opt\%1 rem Create target directory mkdir Opt\%1 rem Perform binarization binarize -textures=Opt -exclude=Opt\exclude.lst %1 Opt\%1 rem Copy all except model and textures xcopy %1 Opt\%1 /exclude:exclude.txt rem Note: textures referenced from other addons or pbo files rem can be found in corresponding Opt subdirectories (like Opt/Data)

    MiG-29

It -is- a good addon. Fun to fly. Vit's abilities are improving. I hate that installer... Bah! I don't know why people have such an aversion to keeping things simple. Zip/rar all the way! What the hell ofpbase guys? It still has the installer. Repackage that puppy and slap it in a good 'ol zip file if you have Vit's permission. We need some good old flashpoint "resistance" to this oppressive installer regime!

Is there anywhere you can get this addon without that fucking installer? *deletes addon*

    Ch-53e superstallion

It's definitely a good addon. However I can't shake this feeling that the size in MB is somehow more than it could be? I'm just being picky though. As of late I've become very "addon conscious" regarding performance and such since my friend said he ran out of memory because he had so many addons in his folder... then again he never managed them at all. Still... the "100-polys-for-a-trigger-guard" (exaggeration)design philosophy that has proliferated as of late look great but I still don't plan on buying a new pc until OFP 2 comes out and I'd like to retain the ability to have tons of units onscreen as opposed to one or five fifty gajillion poly addon that chokes the framerate right out of me. I'm definitely fearing that may well become a reality.
  9. I've read over some of the features for the new patch. I noticed that theres an addition of an Ingram smg and that pistols will be reduced in accuracy. Now. I don't mind either of those. However does anyone know if the pistols feature wretched "pellet gun-like" bullet drop featured in a certain HK addon pack I know of. Also is the Ingram smg a mac-10? Additionally does it have the 1100rpm firing rate and a suitably satisfying growl that the report of a mac has when fired off full auto? I am so sick of seeing the mac-10 in mods and games wimped out with slow firing rates or bad sounds. I was just wondering if anyone heard anything...
  10. This is less a bug report, more a query because yes perhaps this has come up in discussion on this board a few times. Perhaps not, at any rate I was wondering why Satchel charges and LAW rockets and their ammo can't be put to vehicles... or at least the Mark2 PBR. Is this a bug? Was it intentional? Will it be fixed?
  11. Yeah, I ran a search for OFP editing center and came up with too many results to actually bother following up. For those anal retentive bastards who censor posts... Get stuffed. Â Â This place isn't exactly good for the less knowledgeable of the ofp editing set. Because of this. Also the fact that it seems that OFPec is gone for good. Is there anywhere someone like myself can go for information on how to create desired addons? By that I mean a site that not only has a decent range of tutorials. More importantly a forum to help those newer to the concept of editing.
  12. So storm finally released a bike. Well an 80% finished bike. It really needs a good sound to it. The regular bike sounds aren't satisfactory for a 1000cc crotch rocket type bike. It needs a bit of a work on the skin here and there. Nothing major. Overall its a nice bike. It just needs someone with a bit of time and creativity to finish. I'd add the bike sounds myself. However I don't really have any crotch rocket like sounds. So... I'm not really good at that 3d modeling stuff either. Check in the news section at www.ofp.gamezone.cz
  13. I wanted to listen to some of the radio voices in the voice.pbo file however I don't know of any audio application that actually plays .wss files. I tried using wssdec.exe on one of the wss files after extracting it. However it said it wasn't a valid file. Are there any plugins for Cooledit Pro or something similar to read and play .wss files?

    Adding weapons to unarmed vehicles?

I thought there was a tutorial out there for something like that... How to create a civvy car that just shoots bullets from somewhere. Not necessarily a turret. I think a James Bond style car with machineguns that fire from where the headlights or the grill would be great.
  15. Baphomet

    Wssdec just don't cut it.

No. I mean that when I used Wssdec. The program worked. Its just that when I extracted the voices.pbo or whatever it is. The .wss files wouldn't convert. Wssdec simply stated that the .wss file was invalid or something to that effect. I'm thinking BIS didn't want people messing around with them maybe? Either way I just want to listen to them.
  16. ARGH! ... I mean. I'll probably have many questions if I try to even attempt this.

    Civilian vehicles...

There -is- or was a "born to be wild" mod. Its focus was bikes. However from the shots I saw it seems like its mostly concerned with crotch rockets than anything else. Still I wish the guys at Ofp Cz actually posted a link for that mod.

    Mehanics new cars

I think his cars are fine. Except the Ford Bronco keeps listing to the right side on sharp turns and bumps so that it looks like its running on the wheels on the right side. Its weird and I have flipped it because of that on several occasions.

    *Rars at his browser*
  20. Using some pre-resistance personnel mods I've noticed when you use them and kill a guy and take his pistol. The weapon fires but the model is invisible. Why is this? I'm suspecting its one of those "You must uninstall all your OFP related items and the programs etc." However erring on the side of caution I figured it would be good to ask.

    Mehanics new cars

I want to know why the bleedin hell I can seem to only find Mehanic's addons everywhere except his site. Is my browser farked? When I go to the downloads page all I see is a grey background with the header "downloads". No links. No nothing. Yet everwhere I look I see things saying "OooOoO. Go to Mehanic's site to go download his new creations", and I can see bugger-all on his downloads page.

    Resistance network problems

I don't know if I've posted in the right section. However since this isn't really oriented in a gameplaying sense, More a problem actually getting the game to play sense. I thought I'd post it here. Â Â One of the first things I wanted to do when I bought resistance was try multiplayer. The lure of using pistols and driving motorcycles and using all those great addons with my friends was too great. So I installed OFP and Resistance on two of my PCs and then tried to fire up a game for some deathmatch with a friend. The problem is either computer couldn't see one another when A resistance game was hosted. I doubt this is a network problem since I can play regular OFP just fine over my network. Â Â Aside from the possibility of this being a technical issue I also considered that BIS decided to put in some inane sanction on single copies of Resistance used on multiple PCs over a network. Since that is exactly what I did. I installed the only copies of Ofp and Resistance I have on to both pcs using the same keys. Â Â Anyone have this problem?

    Resistance network problems

I figured as much. Thats fucking queer.
  24. Does anyone know precisely how to go about implementing an addon of character voices. Such as the ones you select from the player configuration screen? I took a look at the .pbo where the main voices are stored and I was interested in seeing if it were possible to create my own custom voice packs.
