    God

ah interesting thread. anywho, heres my take... i should point out though, i do not have "all the answers", i'm just tossing in my 2 cents i do believe that there is a God. And i believe that he created life and earth and such. Things like a strand of DNA for example, i think that for something that exact, that fine tuned, can only be created by a loving and dedicated creator. I think that for humans to come this far, to have done so much more than any other species in the history of time (and in such a short period of time) is not a fluke. And for such a wide variety of life to come from a random mixing of amino acids and protens and such just seems so unbelieveable. I have a friend whos a sold atheist, and she believes in evolution, and thinks that 100,000 years ago, a sudden change happend in "our" brains that made us more intelligent. and to her, the notion of a God was very far fetched. Not unlike the notion of a sudden change in our brains is to someone who is a creationist. I believe that God has given us freewill (i figure because its more satisfying to be worshiped by people who want to rather than people who have to), and has given everyone a purpose. I can't imagine that life evolved for a billion years just so i can waist time in from of my pc. anyway, i'll leave it at that for now

    The boast-about-your-fave-fighting-force-thread

well Canada doesn't have a large military, infact we are second from the bottom in NATO for military spending [just a little ahead of luxembourg(sp?)] anywho, our elite guys are called Joint Taskforce 2 (or JT2) its kinda like SAS or seals, maybe more of a swat team on steriods. Â there a pretty secretive bunch, but as far as i know, its an anti terrorism thing. Â They are in Afganistan right now....

    Mid east

well, i'm going to offer up my humble opinion. I've been watching these events in the middle east, and i've been trying to get the most unbias news i can. In situations such as these, i find news about the events can be one sided and almost like propiganda in nature. for instance, the US is allies with Isreal, and when i watch news on ABC, i find it to be more favoring Isreal as the good guys. Walking onto a crowded bus and blowing yourself up is no way to fight a war. equally, driving tanks into refugee camps and demolishing buildings is no way to fight a war. I have sympathy for both sides really, sympathy in the fact that innocent people are dieing there every single day. I don't agreee with the whole situation. (in my limited knowledge of things) I find that Isreals efforts to thwart terrorism is perhaps just an excuse to continue fighting. And I find that both sides are perhaps to proud to work for peace. in the end, i think this pride will be the downfall of both.
  7. in the past i've managed to arm the light plane with rockets and mavericks using the intilization field (?) in the mission editor. Now, how would one go about arming the Tractor like that? (i know its sounds funny and dumb...) it doesn't seem to work the way the plane does....

Games portraying the "real horrors of war"

i think that the soldiers are a little too stone cold. when the guy next to you gets his face shot off, some one should puke. stuff like that, more emotional realism

    Just who are you?

well...I live in a very very small "town" called Shanty Bay in central Ontario Canada, used to be a stop on what was called "the underground rail road". as for myself, i'm 19 and graduated high school last year and i'm slowly working to pay for whatever i take in college university. i work mostly as a carpenter/handman type...that probably what i'll end up doing, houses don't build themselves I have a great girlfriend that lives about 2 hours away in Kitchener ontario. Live with my folks and 2 sisters. I spend my summers in Parry Sound Ontario (home of Bobby Orr) working at a summer camp as a maintence guy, not alot of money but good times. mainly my interests include playing my guitar and music in general, i used to work at a music stuido were i got to fix guitars and such. Games are up there as well as the outdoors. and my name is Don.

    Fun fun fun

Fun, you said it. Sometimes when i don't feel like doing organized missions, i partake in the "great vehical toss"...set up a bunch of satchel charges under tanks or bmps and let fly....50 charges send a BMP into orbit...i think, i never found the remains
  11. has it got a name? I've given a unit the gun alright but i'm not really sure as to the Ammo's name.
  12. I'm making a mission in the mission editor (surpirse surpirse ) and its losely based on "heart of darkness/Apocolypse now"....it may end up as a mini campagine... anywho, first off i'm having difficulty with getting a unit to sit down, i have a Trigger set up, once the unit reaches that point, they should sit. Â in the "on activation" line i put this switchmove "effectstandsitdown", the trigger is a switch. Â it doesn't want to work and i've exausted my ideas. And for the mission itself, Â i wanted to have the Kutrz type character (who'll end up being an unarmed russian) be guarded by "Natives", which will be the resistance. Â In the move/book the natives are generally friendly, and that is easily accoplished. Â however i'd like to have a half dozen or so hostile natives that act as guards to "kurtz"....is this possible without resorting to scripting? thanks in advance

If these tools can make a game like OFP, then it surely can make other games like OFP as well. Do you even realise the business risk they are taking with the release of their tools? Not only that, but they are releasing the tools for FREE!!! Now, excuse me, if I was a games programmer (which I might well be in a few years) and I wrote some programs that allowed me to assemble the most complete game ever, I would NEVER give them away for free!! BIS has my TOTAL respect for being so dedicated to this community by allowing it to use THEIR tools for which they have worked their arses off the last few years! Every one of you who called them names should be ashamed of yourself! You should feel very very LUCKY that they are willing to do what they are going to do! You can be sure that I would NEVER give such a genious program away for FREE, no matter what the community was like! You have no idea just how lucky we all are, and how good Marek and the whole of BIS are! They are still humans in a shark-industry! You little 15 yr old script kiddies that think the world owes you a living...I hope you will grow up one day and realise what it is like to struggle to make ends meet...and what acts of generiousity like BIS's actually mean in a world like this one today! Everyone claims the OFP community is amazing...........well, after seeing the angry remarks after the Oxygen announcement...I feel ashamed of being in the OFP community. Have a little respect for some ppl's life work  <span id='postcolor'> I believe that Ex-Ronin speaks volumes...indeed Oxygen is BIS's bread and butter, their meal ticket.  I admit that modeling objects and terrians for OFP would be quite cool, however, it could mean the total degeneration of the OFP community. Ex-Ronin is 110% right in his comment, giving away these tools for free would be an act of business idiocy on a massive scale.

    Afghans and bin laden

Whos to say that Religion has anything to do with war? How is a Orgainzed Religion that preaches (amoung other good things) Love so bad? Â would you rather have an unorgainzed Religion were people walk around giving out kool-aid laced with cianide? In recent months it seems to me that people are connecting Islam (and Religion in general) with the evils of terrorism. Â Doing that is taking a small group of finatics and using that ideal to stereotype everyone else....ts like saying "all Christans are KKK members", its such a idiotic notion that it makes my head want to explode. What made bin Laden commit the terror attacks September 11 last year? The first/main (I don't know the right word that I'm seeking, English isn't my native language and I'm currently too lazy to grab the dictionary) cause is religion. Then he probably added some extra 'reasons' to do this. Blah blah, I don't stand writing more right now, have lots of things to do. Â you say that because its the easiest answer to grasp. Â I have several friends that are Muslems and they don't go about promoting or defending terrorism. Â Like it or not, Islam, Judaism, and Christianity all relate to the same God. Â There are different variables for each one, such as the siginifcance of Mohommid and Christ, but beyond that, they all grow from the same root. Â I can't tell you why exactly Bin Laden orgainzed the sept11 attacks, hatered seems to be the clearest answer....and Islam does not preach Hatered.

What is the usa`s next target?

North Koreans were taught that Ho Chi Min (sp?) was the first person to walk on the moon, Hitler practicly invented that kind of stuff. in "mine Comp" (again sp?) he said something like "don't tell a bunch of small lies...tell one big one, and keep pushing it, go for peoples gut reaction." Saddam does similar things as well. Heck the US has done it, before the Gulf War started, there was a girl from Kuwait that claimed Iraqi soldiers were tossing premature babies from their incubators...and people bought it. Like i said, it happeds every were, all the time. As for the next traget...probably iraq, Bush seems set on taking down Saddam. I dunno if i can see this "collective" of allied countries beeing as co-operative as they were in Afganistan....

Why not just call it what it is?

i say, let them celabrate their haratage, why not? "They" ( i say "they" because i don't want to divide up the human race into many different ones) have struggle and been pursicuted, and "they" have much to be proud of. Black history month is there to educate us all on 1) slavery, so it won't happen again, 2) the accomplishments and innovations brought about by Black people. theres Probably more reasons than that, but they are unknown to me.

The world almost got nuked on at least 17 occasion

had the atomic bombs not been dropped on Japan, the war would have been over in a month or two, US planes and bombers were freely patrolling the skys of Japan....the bombs were, to the US, a global "flexing" of their military muscle. Some of you may or may not have heard of the "Doomsday clock" , the site is here  it charts how close the world was to nuclear war...all though in more modern times it has been redefined to chart how close the use of nuclear/thermonuclear weapons....alot of Russia/US "relations" brought the Clock forward.
