Thank you ACE team for yet another update. And please hug tpM from me and tell him the new sounds totaly rocks. :) Thank you. -
New Beta Build 70709 is up!
Alex72 replied to WillaCHilla's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
But you make it sound like its a universal problem wich i dont think it is or we would have most people see the same result. I have never crashed flying over a town so far and from those i know and from being part of bug tracking it doesnt seem like a big problem. I understand its annoying for you of course, and i dont really know what you can try to see if it can be eliminated. -

This has however not ever happened to anyone i know - wich is quite a few people. Is it the games fault or your settings? Time to test this one - hard to keep up. :) -
Thanks for the update Ice. Disregard earlier check about FPS. Had armaholic site up in the background wich suck CPU when it updates the site wich was noticed in the game. :)
-
Yep its an old problem alright. Go vanilla - get in a heli with FFAR's - shot a lot of them when close to the ground so you hear the explosions - experience the lack of sounds. :D Really great having the shadow problem gone while zooming though. Good stuff. If the grass could be a bit lighter for performance also that would make my day.
-
You never had sounds cut out in vanilla arma? Lol it has been around since ArmA even. But i had it cut out yesterday once. Felt bit better but might been lucky.

Been flying over things a lot and no crashes. You still running video memory with default? The setting that doesnt seem to work properly for many people. Can anyone else test fire a lot of FFAR's or shoot a lot of MG HE rounds close to the ground while flying a harrier for example. I didnt notice any sound cut out in this beta. At least it hasnt cut out so far. It was present instantly before doing such things. EDIT: Flying is very smooth until coming up over villages/cities where it feels performance is worse in this beta. But only when going over houses. Otherwise its the same - very smooth flying. That can be a reason to the crashes Maverick if your memory isnt properly set through "default". More stress than usual over cities and not properly set the video memory setting. Just an idea.

Scratch what i said. This is not about Z-fighting distance problem. This is the problem with shadows being applied to objects while zooming. Walls, houses and other objects got Z-fighting-look a like when shadows set to HIGH or above. From my tests so far - it's fixed. :) This was a really annoying bug and it seems to be fixed.
-
So how does the Z-fighting look for you guys? Could be good to not only look at FPS but also test the changes they do show us in the changelog.

New beta build 70313 is up!
Alex72 replied to NoRailgunner's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
^^ Yep thats the correct settings. And default has many times failed to detect available VRAM and therefor made people crash. So i would do what JW says - test HIGH. -

Im running i7, OCZ ram and Win7x64 (some similarity at least) as well and i never seen these blackouts. Tested flying a lot over all towns in Cherna and never got these issues. Your VMEM at default i think is wrong? Wasnt default for larger memory than 1GB? With 1GB (896) i leave it at HIGH and never had a black screen or crash. Running xThreads=3 since its the best in terms of performance. I tested the others as well with no blackouts. -
Patch 69645 - changes under the hood
Alex72 replied to suma's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
Dont worry. No harm done. :) I guess the 1.06 suggestion thread would be more appropriate though since your post asks for changes in future patching. Think it would fit right in instead of an old beta thread. ;) -

Texture issue with in-game infantry model.
Alex72 replied to Laqueesha's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Old miss wich doesnt really belong in the troubleshooting section. Best is opening a ticket about it you know where. Click my signature image. ;) -
This should be posted in the beta 70313 thread ("latest beta" so i take its the 70313 you mean). It gets very messy if people starting several threads about the same topic. And please state parameters used when you comment in the correct thread. Thanks. Closing.

When it comes to ARMA's own addon files i have them in RAMDRIVE like this X:\AddOns. But community addons i do the full path or the game complains. Easy to setup though and great difference especially when turning fast or moving fast close or inside towns. lot less "chops" that comes from HDD not coping with the speed of the rest of the system.

ArmA2 FPS analyser - benchmarking tool
Alex72 replied to sbsmac's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : Community Made Utilities
Thank you sbsmac for the fix. All good now. Could you expand the highest FPS value in the charts? 100FPS is max and it seems i have dots in those highest values wich could/should mean i had higher FPS than that. Could be nice to see maximum. Maybe 200FPS could be maximum? Thinking of own benchies people will make where you do flying higher up. That gives me sometimes ~200FPS. EDIT: When i did another run with different settings i noticed that the first run has the same time stamp as the last one so its hard to know wich is wich. I know from the numbers #1 and #2 of course but with a bunch it will get harder. So every bench has the same time stamp wich is from the last run. Could be nice if that is fixed. I also noticed that the second run where i upped the settings a bit took the highest FPS value in the windows down to 80 - even when i select the first run only wich was above 80FPS in the peaks. Will be on MSN later if you want better explanations. Thanks again for creating this. Much appreciated tool. -
Saw that eventually. :) Strange i have to give my modline the full path.

:D Third times the charm.

Got some time to test this now, but i get the same problem as TheBarricade. When i try to start your app after running a bench an error notice come up with the exact same content as above. Initial run after install works ok. Win7 64bit. Maybe a 64bit issue? -
Ice, the mad max-ish compound has that BIS model guard post turned the wrong way. You cant enter it as the entrance is against the wall. Maybe you knew it. Just mentioning it. The 2 level guard "tower" with camo net. You enter and go up a small ladder to the top. It's to the far left when entering the compound.

Patch 1.05 is out since months back so there is no reason in digging this old thread up.
