ATTN NOOBIES! - New to ArmA II or OA - Here's the place for your questions
Apache-Cobra replied to wraith_v's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Will there ever be proper thermal textures for the vanilla A2 vehicles? Or is that up to modders? -
WarFX Particles
Apache-Cobra replied to Opticalsnare's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Great mod, looks good, but do you think you could tone down the smoke and sparks on the bullet ground impacts? Or at least make several versions with different sizes maybe? It's currently way too big for a weapon such as an M16 (or even an AK47 for that matter, it looks more like a .50 caliber impact to be honest). -
Modern Combat - SLX Mod version 1.1
Apache-Cobra replied to Big-Rooney's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I second that. I'd really like to try this mod. -
Yes, but it hadn't been confirmed completely. If you read the rest of those articles I quoted from, they are very descriptive and humorous, so it's hard to tell what's actually in-game and what is just added to make the story more entertaining.
-
What a heated discussion about the command interface! Jeez. Anything probably works well enough. I come bearing news that crying/whimpering has been confirmed in DR.
-
According to surveys... 56% were not satisfied with patch 1.03 at all. 93% hoped that 1.03 would be better than it was. 72% are facing some sort of serious or annoying issue with the game. 55% claim that problems are ruining the game. Only 24% of the community have no complaints. By the way, that thread in the DR forums has been opened again. EDIT: Yes, forum surveys, you can find them here in the General and Troubleshooting categories here.

There is a detailed briefing screen before you begin each mission. Feel free to ignore my posts. You're making yourself look pretty immature, by the way.

I don't wish to be banned, nor do I imply that I'm gone for good, I was simply trying to leave this discussion, yet it keeps sucking me back in "Yet magically if you put a little effort into an addon you can indeed create a fully penetrable vehicle using the penetration system thats built into the engine." -DM Addon= mod, and there's only one penetration mod available that I know of, which is extremely unstable and buggy, and is no longer an addon, but a script. I found that screen shot, I mentioned before, by the way. http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/6830/sabot.png I'd like to see anything similar to that in OFP/ArmA, to be completely honest. I recall many months ago the subject of it coming out of the barrel slightly high as shown in the picture was addressed by the community manager as already being fixed. NOW, I will take my leave from this topic.
-
I'm going to PM him now and ask why, that was a bit odd of him. Maybe he only read the last 2-3 pages where the OP had gone offline for a bit and where people started going off topic.

Right... we're not talking about mods here by the way. I'll post a few sources, but aside from that I'm done here. http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/7466/tshell.png The tracer effect is off a little bit but is likely fixed by now, seeing as I believe that is an old build before they began the tweaking/bugfixing stage. There's also a photo showing a sabot round being fired from an Abrams, but I haven't been able to find that despite a huge amount of searching. ------------- "Tim noticed a third spotter on the radar as I waited to respawn and moved towards a concrete bunker behind which he was waiting to pounce. Or not, as it turned out. Having sent Avery around one side of the bunker, while he sneaked around the other, when they both popped out to face the enemy they discovered a PLA soldier crying on his knees. At which point, Tim shot him." "I finally completed this mission last night and while I don't want to give anything away my soldier experienced something new near the end of one 'failed mission' attempt. I was the last man in our squad and had been cornered in a building with 4 enemy on the outside and I got myself into a corner to try and pop them off as they came in or through the window when my character started to whimper. Not just a little sniffle, but a fully committed big girls' blouse blubber. It quite put me off my aim and is probably why I only managed to take two of them out before they killed me. Yes, that's the reason. Payback later though when I shot one in the legs then strolled towards him, stood over him while he whimpered then shot him. Whimpering is a 'nice' touch. I didn't expect it. " Both quotes taken from www.incgamers.com review diary. Looking for that video now... Actually, it looks more like they are taking cover from suppressive fire, which is still more than ArmA can say. TTsm5GQVoqM 17-22 seconds in.

1. Irrelevant. 2. Does ArmA have that? 3. Show me proof that you can see bullets on OFP/ArmA 4. ArmA2 uses hitpoints. You can only penetrate fences and some map props. And it is confirmed to be in DR. 5. CM can't make a video for every single feature. 6. Whenever I play ArmA2 the AI lies down and shoots, I haven't really seen it take cover. Could be wrong though, but I doubt it. BI can't make AI for s**t. 7. Vehicles are practically on ice skates in OFP/ArmA 8. It's been shown on video and been described by reviewers. 9. If the bodies were near ground zero of the blast, then that is indeed strange, but they could have simply been hit with fragmentation from a further distance. 10. Lock ups and memory leaks among other problems tend to happen even if you are the only unit in the field. 11. True, ArmA2's sounds are actually pretty good. 12. LUA is the easiest scripting system in existence. Documentation exists already, both from the creators of LUA as well as a list of commands and arguments for DR from CM themselves. 13. Fair enough, I suppose. 14. Specific scripting. Evidence/photos/other proof? Frankly, I'll be glad enough to get a realistic game that is playable and relatively bug free. The satisfaction here is atrocious, as a majority of the community agrees. Think I'm done here for now. Reasoning is impossible with (some of) you guys.

They have bullet drop. That's it. There wasn't even ricochet in OFP.
-
But you can't see the actual bullet, and the ricochets are scripted (am i right?), whereas in DR the bullets run on the physics engine. EDIT: That's not a picture of VBS2 FLIR. Looks like greyscale once again. This is VBS2 FLIR.

They've confirmed that the console demo has been canceled and that the PC demo will come out after release, which is the complete truth. My point was they confirmed these features after the game was already in gold status, so chances are they are in the game. True. However, on the subject of the soldier's backpack, clothing and gear does not completely block infrared radiation when it is so close to a warm body, so it makes sense for it to be glowing hot as well (to a degree). It hasn't been confirmed yet whether vehicles with the engine off show up as a hot spot on FLIR, but I would think that CM had thought of that. I'll take a "remote control" tank and 2 extra infantry over a tank with crewmen. That IS a shame, though. By the way, Zipper5's post below mine reminds me to mention the physics and ragdoll in DR.
-
I'm still pretty sure that you can't see bullets and shells in OFP and ArmA/2, nor are they modeled dynamically as physics objects (i.e. a barrel in Half Life 2). And I'm not sure what you're talking about with the retreating thing. In the years I've played the AI stood their ground and fought till death. I still think DR is better in these two aspects. I've seen my fair share of FLIR, thanks. It's not perfect but it does look damn good and is fully functional. And that ArmA video is just a greyscale effect applied to the game with some video edits.
