  1. Hi, folks, What are Texture_Heap and File_Heap? I've looked and only found advice about them, not explanations. Why is it recommended in some posts that these be brought to 0? Why does Autodetect in Preferences max them out? Is there any benefit in increasing them from 16 to, say, 128 in flashpoint.cfg? Thanks for any info that can shed some light on these!

    Hard drive accesses

Thanks - could you explain this one a little more? Total memory is set to 2032 already, and the slider is all the way to the right.

    Hard drive accesses

Hi, folks, I did a few searches regarding virtual memory and paging files and was unable to find info that addressed my issue. It happens that OFP thrashes my hard drive a great deal, regardless of mission (though it's moreso during big ones like Battlefields and some of the FDF ones). My fps rates, as shown by dxdll, range from the low single digits to the low 30s if I'm looking at anything but the sky. In Vista's Task Manager, I can see that I have plenty of RAM available for use. Here are my questions: Is it possible to force OFP to use more RAM and less virtual memory? If so, how is it done? My specs are in my sig and my CPU benchmark is 7389. I do run -nomap. Thanks for any help!

    When do folks play?

Hi, folks - I'm wondering, when do folks normally play? It's Friday night, Central time in the U.S., and I see a bunch of servers listed, but not too many people playing, which leads me to think that a lot of the play that happens on those servers occurs with folks in different time zones. I've noted that CiA's times are posted, and I'd like to try and play when they do, but, is it the case that their times are also popular with other players in Europe, in other servers? Thanks for the help - I'd like to try and get on when there are a bunch of others playing.
  6. Edit: Please, disregard this message - I'm pretty sure I figured it out. Hi, folks, I'm not sure if the following is supposed to happen: I have set the mod to use the DMA Naval models. When I go into the editor, I can see the DMA models used for my personal unit and any under my command, but they are not used for any other units I place on the map. What should I be seeing? If it's true that the models should be used for other units, how do I set that up? Here's the bit from my models_base.hpp: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"> //#define CUSTOM_MODELS //#define DMA_ARMY_MODELS #define DMA_NAVAL_MODELS //#define BWMOD_MODELS //#define SFP_MODELS //#define RYAN_MODELS //#define BIS_MODELS //#define WGL5_MODELS Thanks for any help!
  7. Hi, folks, I've installed General Barron's Handsignals system addon as a mod folder (@hs), with the pbo's in @hs\addons, Â and have also installed Kegetys' fwatch program, as well. However, I have found that there is no difference in the addon's use running with or without fwatch. I'm also not seeing the keybinds working as I've expected while running fwatch (GENB_hs_controls.cfg is in the correct directory; e.g. TAB does not bring up the command dialogue). Is my problem running the handsignals pbo's in a modfolder? Anything about fwatch I might not be doing right? Here's the shortcut path I use for fwatch and the handsignals addon: "C:\Program Files\Codemasters\Operation Flashpoint\fwatch.exe" -nosplash -nomap -mod=@hs Just to be clear, the Handsignals system looks like it's working properly, just not the keybinds that are supposed to work via fwatch. Any help would be appreciated - I'm trying to eventually get the full handsignals system up and running with the voice recognition program, Shoot! Thanks!
  8. That looks like it worked! I had forgotten about XP compatibility in Vista - thanks for the reminder. I was able to play the race mission and get the keyboard shortcuts to work in the HS_template mission - they still don't work in the tutorial, but I guess that's just how the tutorial works. Thanks, again! I hope this helps someone else, too! Â
  9. Thanks, Nepumuk, I re-installed everything, following your steps, and still the keybinds do not operate as expected. One thing I thought of - what OS are you running? Do you think my problem could be fwatch and Vista not working together properly? I receive no error messages, so, this is just a guess. If this is the case, it's really too bad, because I was looking forward to running this command system with Shoot! a great deal. Edit: One other thing - I just tested fwatch by using the race mission and received an error message: "fwatch not detected". I did install it according to the directions - any ideas? Thanks!
  10. Yes, GENB_hs_controls.cfg is in the following directory: C:\Program Files\Codemasters\Operation Flashpoint\fwatch\mdb and the end of the file is as follows: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE"> ----------PLACE KEY BINDINGS BELOW HERE---------------------------- TAB="dialog" F1="squad" F2="team1" F3="team2" F4="team3" F5="rto" F6="watch" F7="rush" F8="retreat" F9="move_map" F10="halt" F11="change_signal" F12="cancel_orders" BACKSPACE="root_menu" -----------END KEY BINDINGS----------------------------------------- Thanks for the help! Edit: Another thing I've noticed: the transparent command dialog can be called up with the middle-click on the mouse, whether or not I've started OFP with fwatch. I'm under the impression that that dialog can be accessed only with fwatch. Is that right?

    FFUR-SLX 2007 2.0

Hi, folks, When is the patch supposed to be applied: before or after the 'new data' from 2.0 has been extracted? I just want to be sure I've installed everything properly (would this procedure apply to ffsx85, as well?). Thanks for any help!

Modern Combat - SLX Mod version 1.1

Hi, folks - real quick: Are you supposed to run the the batch files on the @mcm-slx directory? e.g. Install_win2k_xp.bat I'm not sure why they are there, if you're not supposed to use them. If I'm missing something in the docs, let me know. . . Thanks for the help!

Modern Combat - SLX Mod version 1.1

Here's something I've run into that might be a bug: When I try to place a USMC Officer (Desert) in a map, I get the following message - "error loading mcm_us\sol\md\us_officer.p3d.p3d (Magic)" after hitting 'Preview', and then drop back to the editor. If I hit preview, again, I can get into the map but am immobile, with no model present. If this is something I can fix, let me know how - thanks!
  14. Hi folks, For organizational purposes, is it alright to rename mod folders by prefixing the '@' symbol to those folders that do not have it? e.g. finmod -> @finmod, x_vte -> @x_vte Thanks!

    Renaming mod folders

Thanks for the info, y'all. Does anyone know of any other mods that behave in the same way as the finmod? A 'Find and Replace All' isn't too big a deal to do, as long as I know where to look and what to look for. It'd be nice to have all my mod folders follow that '@' prefix convention. Though, the "s it really worth it?" question is a good one and does warrant some consideration. . .

    performance

I keep my draw distance at 900 (apparently, this is the distance used by the BIS developers, according to a post by Suma) and my terrain detail at low. For 'Battlefields', and any other large engagement scenario, I turn off shadows. I find this particularly necessary for FFSX 2.5. It's still very good visually and excellent, gameplay-wise. GRAA, ECP, and FDF run great.

Modern Combat - SLX Mod version 1.1

Thanks for this mod! I've briefly played with the editor and the 'Steal the Car' mission - I love the sounds and am anxious to give it a thorough try; your screenshots do a really good job grabbing one's attention. Three questions: 1. I'm new to OFP. What are the batch files in the @MCM-SLX directory for (I've looked in the readme pdf and can't find their use)? 2. Is there a way to change Malden and Everon to versions with different foliage? 3. Is there a technical reason why I should not want to change the islands (AI issues)? Thanks. again!

Thanks, Sepp - your advice regarding islands actually addresses what prompted my question!

    Duplicate files

Hi, folks - I did a search in this forum and did not find any info on this: Is it problematic to have duplicate files in the addons directories of various mods? For example, having the same file in res\addons and @ecp\addons Any other scenarios in which having duplicate files would cause problems? Thanks in advance for the help/info!
  20. Find and open flashpoint.cfg in your ofp directory - you can change the refresh rate there.

    Problem with "addons at ease"

from sanc in the GRAA thread: "Download the BISCamel.rar archive from http://files.filefront.com/BISCamelrar/;9800771;/fileinfo.html Inside of the BISCamel.rar archive (open with winzip/winrar/winace/7zip/etc...) there is the BISCamel.pbo so you don't need any kind of installer, just extract it. Then once you have extracted it, just put this BISCamel.pbo file in ...\Codemasters\Operation Flashpoint\Res\AddOns\ And you should be ready." I had the same problem.

    OFP alive?

Though I purchased the game a wile back, I'm still a relatively new OFP player. A few years back, I had seen some of dslyecxi's videos and write-ups about the game and thought I'd give it a try. I had been playing Novalogic's Joint Operations a lot (great, somewhat arcade-ish military FPS, also with large areas to roam in, fun multiplayer) and wanted to try something new. With OFP's lauds, I figured it'd be a safe buy, and I was not wholly disappointed (that I couldn't max it out graphically w/o lag on a machine that ran UT2004 @1600x1200, all highest settings & lag-free, was a downer, though not an ender. . .). In fact, I was really enthusiastic, downloading and getting into various mods, particularly FDF. Shortly after, I went through a computer upgrade that wiped the hard drive (Vista Home Premium, much better than folks generally acknowledge) and included a move to an x850xt video card. Now, I was running JointOps maxed out and thought I'd try the ArmA demo. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to run it lag-free, as I was for JO, so I decided to give OFP a try, again - could I max it out this time? No, dang it! But it runs better than before, and I've learned more about the available mods. ECP, GRAA, WGL and DXDLL all make for a game that's comparable, graphically, with recent games (DX9). I'm still going through FDF and have now started Insurgency with TonalRedux (looking through the various forums available, it amazes me how much I've missed since this game has come out. . .). I'm sure I'll be active w/ OFP for a good while to come. I'm wanting to get into multiplayer a bit. One thing, for you campaign makers (BI, included), I liken this game to the Links 2003 golf game - there are many golf courses available for download, many of such quality that folks pay for them, netting some income for their designers' efforts, even today (cf. this guy: Mike Jones Golf). I'm willing to pay for quality campaigns, much in the same vein as the Links course designers' courses. It seems to me that there's no reason money can't still be made with OFP, and thus extend the life of this great, fun game.

    GRAA Modpack 3.0

Hi, folks, I'm more or less new to OFP and have been having a great time checking out the mods available. I've noticed on YouTube videos of ECP+GRAA and have been trying to get that set up. I am having a problem with GRAA setup (sort of. . .) and have not found it discussed in this thread, so here goes: When I try to install the BIS Camel addon (Filefront's file), the installation halts, saying that my version of OFP prohibits the install (it's trying to patch to 1.91, when I already have 1.96). When I try to install the msi file from the flashpoint1985 site, I get an error that implies that my copy of OFP is not official (it is, GOTY). Any help will be appreciated - thanks!
