    If any of you happen to have two PCI-Express video cards and three monitors, I made a little program that allows playing Direct3D 8/9 games with a "triplehead" setup without special hardware such as the Matrox Triplehead2go. The second video card is only used to draw part of the frame rendered by the primary video card, so a cheap card such as a GF 6200LE works fine, info and some shots etc available here.

    OFP works with it of course (Except for the stretched ironsights), a little video here smile_o.gif

    Just curious, would this work on those SLI cards that take up only one PCIe Slot??? I have a 7950GX2, while admittedly I have only one monitor (have a 2nd but it won't work on the new vid card), but it would be of interesting note for those that have that style of card and 3 monitors.

    <s>No. The 7950GX2's, and even the Quadro 4500 X2 only have 2 video output ports. You need two cards so you can get > 2 ports. The TripleHead2Go allows you to combine 3 displays into one port.</s>

    Nm that. You could use the single-slot SLI as the primary card, then cascade the slave card from there. You'll still need 2 cards though, no single-slot SLI has > 2 ports.

    Questions that I've got, seeing how that 79xx/19xx cards have the capability to crunch OFP at more than adequate rates, is it possible to scale it past one slaved card? Or, as you were hinting at, is the 4096x4096 maximum frame resolution? (Incidently, given that displays render 24bit even though processing is 32bit, that's 2^32, just a note to self) So this means you get a maximum limit of 4096 pixels in x or y on one card?

    Have RAM prices (PC6400 especially) jumped up in the last month? I have a list of parts to buy, it was at CAD$1200 last month and I was hoping to wait until it gets to around $1000. Everything has gone down in price except ram, unless maybe I recorded the wrong price or the wrong part when I made my list.

    I want to get a Corsair matched pair (Dual Channel DDR2 2x1024MB PC6400 with CAS latency 5-5-5-12). I thought I had a price of CAD$287 about 4 weeks ago, and now it's around CAD$400.

    Yup, I've noticed that as well, and has jumped quite a bit. Was going to get 2GB of Corsair, it was 240 one day, and a few days later was up over 280 after a 40USD instant price cut.

    I'll wait on the DirectX 10 gen. cards, at least then I'm secured for a while. wink_o.gif

    Speaking of secured: Ubisoft leaked 2 Gb of screenshots for unannounced games. You won't find anything now though, Ubisoft did a well-done cleaning.

    I hate these kinds of mistakes, they take away the "wow" factor when they announce these games. Same goes with the

    one hour movie of Armed Assault

    I would wait until Vista is on at least SP1, I have been very unimpressed with Vista to date. Right now I don't feel like spending a couple hundred dollars on an OS just to have DirectX 10 (since scuttlebutt is that DX10 will not be downloadable, will only come with Vista).

    Thanks for that Chipper - it's now a toss up between ASUS P5ND2-SLI-Deluxe and the ASUS P5WDH Deluxe - apparently SLI is only really necessary for those running games at above 1280x1024 resolution, which I am not. So maybe just one 7950GX2 will do me for now. tounge2.gif

    I have a 7950GX2 and absolutely love it!!! I run resolutions 1680 x 1050 on my new Samsung SyncMaster 225BW, and it's been eating through games!

    @JdB - Check out the Samsungs, I just bought a 22" widescreen and absolutely love it, cost me $400USD but they have some really nice ones that are under 22" and under $350USD.

    @JdB - Update for you, I found this Samsung, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824001226

    It is 20.1", supports 1600x1200, has 800:1 contrast ratio, 5ms response time, and it is only $349.99 USD, not sure what the current exchange rate is but that should be under your budget limit

    1700 USD computer with a 7300 and no intel duo processor? Ouch.

    YEah, I have to agree, I paid 1650 for my computer with an E6600, and a 7960GX2

    Also, yeah, what the hell is up with Newegg changing the format of their site, it's a big pain in the ass navigating now with that huge vertical bar on the left side now.

    @Jakerod - It's a lot easier then you think to build a computer, if you can get to a store that sells used magazines look for a PC Gamer magazine, the cover should have PC BUILDING BIBLE 2006, at the bottom it says DISPLAY TILL JUNE 20th 2006. In the back it has a HOW TO on building a computer in like 75 easy steps, all with pictures, it also gives you a guide in how to install the OS. For the article they built a gaming rig with 1 7800GT, 1GB of RAM and such for 1459.89, all the parts were purchased from NewEgg. I'd scan the article and email it to you, but I'm on a crappy 5yr old laptop that gives me a MEMORY DUMP SCREEN every 15-20mins. The article also gives you a guide for tweaking XP.

    My desktop fried, so I'm gonna order parts for a new rig this coming week, I would like an opinion on the case though.

    What exactly fried? Would it not make more sense for you to replace the fried parts, or did you plan on upgrading anyway?

    I planned on upgrading within the next 6months, this just sped up plans. What fried? My video card, and the northbridge on my motherboard also fried, and the CPU was starting to die, damn P4's. I figured, why spend about 200-300 for something I am gonna toss out in a couple of months.

    The only case I listed that was over $100USD was the Aspire X-Navigator, it is an aluminum case and it comes with about 5 fans already built into it. All the others are in the $50USD class range. I don't want anything fancy, just stuff to keep it cool. I completely agree with you Messiah on the whole "pimping issue".

    granted its fictional, but there's a line between fiction and reality, and even when creating an army for a ficticious country, you have to cross that line...

    if you were inventing Nogova for the first time, i.e. BIS hadnt already popuated it, laid a background story etc to it, then fine... it could have a rail gun, T-90's and Javelins... but its not, and it has a history laid out already... its a small country, with a small populace... its income is blatantly nothing more than agriculture, some industry and perhaps tourism at best... that amounts to a rather small army, equiped with soviet hand me downs from the old soviet era the island experienced... expect things like the old BTRs etc to be around...

    anyone who considers nogova to be able to afford T90's and Fulcrums/MI24's etc needs their head checking.

    only supah and jaguar could really comment on why NAFP didnt get any futher... but i dont truely think it was anything to do with the community bickering on what weapons and vehicles would be used... they had a very clear idea of what they wanted, and having worked with Jaguar closely in the past year, he's not one to care what the community want or think is best...

    their list of kit seemed ideal for the size of nogova, and its a damn shame it didnt get any futher (although the infantry and vehicles looks superb, especially that BTR 152).

    R0adki11, i'd really reccomend speaking to supah and jaguar and see if you could continue some of their projects for NAFP - their camo choice was pretty excellent too... blended in perfectly.

    But you are thinking of Nogova in past tense. Nogova surely has evolved/progressed since they were first established. Nogova should not be stuck in a time bubble, history shall continue forward.

    Exactly, for all we know Nogova could possibly have a high tech industry, kids go over seas for schooling, come back and apply it at home. Hell, the Nogovans could be so advanced they may have developed a fully functional rail gun for all we know (I was watching Eraser last night at 3am)!!! I reckon their scientists have a lot of time on their hands as it appears there isn't much to do on Nogova (no sports fields clubs etc.), other then farming and cow tipping! HAHA

    Just have fun with your addon, do what makes you happy!

    I know this in an old thread but I've got this question I can't fiqure out. There are doors on the back of these things but you can't enter. Are these supposed to be able to carry troops? I modifed the config to allow troops, but when inside there are no internal textues. Maybe that's my answer... wow_o.gif
