MultiDiscussion : TES5: Skyrim, BattleField 3, COD, R6 etc.
ArchangelSKT replied to Second's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
Generally yes but I do not think BF3 should be slammed for its lacks in SP. While BC1-2 had SP campaigns, BF1942 and BF2 did not, so any Sp in BF3 is positive as is the co-op feature. At least there are more options. -
I have not thought much about what I want from ARMA 3 yet, but if I where to point out one thing then for me it is I hope they optimize the game properly and that it will have a fluid feel to it when aiming. For me there is nothing more annoying when playing a FPS game that the aiming feels sluggish and almost "delayed".

I think the game seems very promising from the little that we know so far and only in a few days we should get some more information. I am going to buy it without a doubt since I have played both Vietnam - BF2 and now BFBC2 and liked all of them very much. Shame about the commander though, but I have never liked the UAV radar or the motion sensors that are in BC2. I am more "the less you know the better" puts a bit more nerve into the game. What I do hope they improve though is to come up with some kind of system to make the nadespamming less then it currently is in regard to resuppling ammo. -
Rumors are out that Illusion softworks will show off Mafia 2 at the Games convention at the end of august in Leipzig. PLEASE let it be so the german site USK had a trailer that was later removed on the site today. Still no 100% official word but I cross my fingers ( and toes ) for it.

I have never been more happy of skipping a game that I initially wanted very badly as in this case. Just to think that I listed it along with Mafia II as my most expected title makes me cringe. Not only that but I also thought about getting a new system for it, thank god I did not, but sad thing is though other gamers might have forked out alot of $$ for a new system for this game due to their expectations. This release has more then any other thought me to not to trust official reviews and to lean more towards forum feedback, and to hold on purchasing a game for a few weeks after release. NICE !!!!

"Nice...." - Sion Lenton's only statement to the community after launch of Dragon Rising. Oh my god, is that actually true, if so it is beyond laughable, and also sad for the community...oh my.

That is true and I agree with what you say, I find it VERY strange at the least to see how a company can actually hype that game and having "Dedicated host server recommended for optimum performance" labelled in print on the back of the very box of the game and then a month afterwards offering a response on the official forum in BY FAR the largest thread saying that there will be NO Dedicated servers. I am by all means no laywer, but serioulsy I hope some players inquire about consumer laws because this seems just plain out to be a fraudulent approach with a very clear evidence that CM have indeed conned their paying costumers into purchasing a product that fails to deliver what it says, and the evidence is even printed on the case of the game. I am actually tempted to send an inquiring e-mail to the consumer agency here in Norway to hypotetically see what they would say, but I have not personally purchased the game, or at least flip out my 'Norwegain Law' book that I used in upper-secondary school. A very serious breach pf trust from CM this, it is actually as it becomes more so the more I think about it, I am sick of being a brainless 'puppet' consumer for developers that does not give what they promise, or even worse as it is in this case, actually do what is required in order to facilitate the game in such a manner so it can be used as a product that they have made in accordance to what it actually states on the backside of the very case of the product itself.

I am happy I have not gotten the game, from what I read and several also mention here it seems to be much more gun-ho then COD4. I can understand that heart pounding gun battles are entertaining, but it seems the entire SP story is like that which of course for me if true is for sure not what I would look for. Saved money on this, and DR, it pays of to become older, wiser and more critical towards the industry :D

I wonder how this title has panned out for Codemasters, I have not searched for sale figures, but from all the info I read I wonder how they react behind the scene. There is no way that they can pass it off as a successful product, and I almost assume that they know themselves that it is not what they either hoped it to be or marketed it to be as a finished product, and I find the officials to be strangely absent, at least some communication via Helios should be made. A cruel way to treat paying costumers indeed. I have never seen a game die as fast as this. The game was at least good for something as I got ARMA II and are back frequenting these forums.
-
Well I would never consider paying full price for a game that probably have a very short SP campaign if I did not have any intentions of playing MP. That being said of course I do not doubt that it is fun, and well made.

Another one without dedicated server, Rage this time..
ArchangelSKT replied to txalin's topic in OFFTOPIC
I hope this is not true, not that I am particulary interested in Rage, and if then more for the graphics then the game really as Sci-fi is not my thing, but anyway if it is true then I hope this will give the PC fps community some stronger unity. Third title in about a month where this discussion comes up, thats not good :( -
Great feedback so far I look forward to the game even more now, and if I am not mistaken the expert setting is harder then the one in L4D as well, so besides realism mode we get a much harder game. I for one welcome that, I played my very first campaign on normal, then one on advanced and the rest on expert, and to be fair I only find the finals difficult on expert in the first game, thats why I enjoy survival cause you know no matter how good you are you will bite the dust in the end.
-
This is outragious, while it is up to each and every PC player to decide for themselves if they will buy this game or not, I am personally on the edge of calling any PC player that does so a traitor, and yes I am serious :D
-
I agree with what you say there, sadly and ironically enough though it seems that still with plenty of well written post on the IW forums on the dedicated servers issue, and facing a huge online global petition boycott, the IW officials treats us as.....well 13-14 year old consumers breathing from their parents pockets and $$.
-
Fair enough that you do not like the game, but I think it is a bit wrong to call it "mindless bullsh*t", afterall like in any other game you will soon enough notice if you play with competent people or not, so it is not like it is totally devoided of tactics and planning. I for one welcome the co-op aspect of the game specifically.

I have frequented the CM forums for quite some time and it is very sad to see that so many topics gets deleted because they critique the game, or compare it to ARMA II. I wonder how the sales will pan out for CM compared to what they had hoped for.
-
I had half and eye open on MW2 but now of course I am not going to purchase it obviously, with such an ignorant, or full knowing capitalistically driven discontent for the PC-crowd they deserve every piece of heat they get. They might have lost one sale on me because of that, and in addition I might also opt out from getting COD4 which I originally had on my list as games to get when I buy a new PC since my previous did not let me run it. I am curious to the end result of this, fortunatly one might say this MW2 situation happens right after Consolemasters Dragon Rising, fortunatly cause hopefully it makes more PC players stand up and voice up against an industry which WAY to often gets away delivering noting but broken promises to their costumers. No wonder and thank god I have a more healthy habbit of reading reviews, though most importantly FORUM FEEDBACK on games now adays then before.

DICE pays attention to PC Gamers, apparently
ArchangelSKT replied to gabe_ruckus's topic in OFFTOPIC
True, but in this case as I said I think PC players have to count on BF3 and not BC2. If BF3 is a PC only title I have no doubt the player limit will be increased, the leacked memo from years ago hinted 80 players, and I still hope that is true. IF BC2 would have been the sequel to BF2 what BF3 will be then I would be disapointed, but I am not now really as BC is a console title. Of course this does not indicate that I would not have wanted 64 players for BC2, but I guess DICE hopes that BF3 will take over for BF2 in regards to PC players and not find a competitor in their own title BC2, even though I highly doubt we will see BF3 before 2011. (And yes, Consolemasters failed with DR, actually I have opted out from buying the 'Drit' titles because of it, just as IW and Ubisoft have lost sales from me, for obviously MW2 and the slaughter of the R6 series) -

ArchangelSKT replied to gabe_ruckus's topic in OFFTOPIC
Well I do not really like things like this as I want most players to stand on equal ground and not have to many advantages. It will however not prevent me from getting the game I guess as I do somewhat look forward to it. I say somewhat because it does not have 64 mp for PC and I am really looking forward to BF3 basically so for me Bf BC 2 will be nothing more then a title to hold me over, if it even manages to do that with 'Mafia II' and 'Silent-hunter V' also being on the way. Also since BF BC basically came out as a console only title then I am a bit more 'humble' as to the PC version of the sequel as I would not really expect one initially at all, BF3 is an entirely different story however, though I have read rumors that it will be a PC title only, which I hope is true. But as I said, I do not like it, even though if I can recover my glory days in BF2 I should still do ok without it on my part :D -
I have not tried the demo yet as I have not pre-ordered it, but I will buy the game for sure when it is released. I had great fun with L4D and it is a fresh breath in terms of in-and-out co-op play for me, survival is also great with decent players. Though I agree with the people that says that it gets released to soon, though Valve has promised continued support for the original but who knows. I personally think the best thing they could have done was what others have said and that would be to give a resonable discount for L4D owners upon buying the sequel. For me personally it does not mean so much, I was late to the party and bought the original when its price had been reduced on Steam and I will join in a 4-pack when I buy the sequel, so money-wise for me in total I will end up with a good deal for both games, epecially if the sequel will provide me with so much fun as the original has, which has been quite a bit. L4D gameplay is basically as simple as it is brilliant for me, easy gaming, leisure time kind of thingy.

I hope to see another ARMA game, and I guess if there will ever be one it will be in the next 5-6 years or so, not before. Reason for that is that I as others think that it should have a new engine, I just bought ARMA II and I really like it so far, but the engine shows its age despite delivering a very good atmosphere. I hope they do continue the series, especially since OFP: Dragon Rising was so disapointing, and just that alone might give BIS another push as I think that Dragon Rising might be of a huge benefit for BIS since the title has introduced alot of gamers into the concept of what it tried to achieve but failed to do, so BIS with another game and a new engine could benefit from that, but as I said since I beleive a new engine would be needed and I doubt we will see it 'just around the corner' then well, I don`t know. They do not have any competition now, well not in quality at least in my opinion, but other titles may emerge that we today do not know about. For all these years since the original OFP I have wondered many times why we have not seen more attempts in this genre, Illusions "Enemy in sight" seemed promising from the few screens we saw, and I basically know that from their catalouge with titles as 'Vietcong', 'Hidden and dangerous I-II' and 'Mafia I', now with an upcoming sequel they would have made a better attempt then Consolemasters.
-
I have the same CTD if it can be called that, what happens is that the screen goes black but the game keeps running in the background as I can hear the sound, but I can not alt-tab and I have to boot the system. It has happened three times in about 5h of gametime and it is quite frustrating. I also run on an Ati card: 4850.

This is great news for me, I really liked SH3, even though I never finished my campaign because of studies and other games, and SH4 I skipped alltogether. Now however this has placed itself on the top three list of 'must have' titles for me. The new improvements and especially the fps view and a totally accessible submarine sounds really nice. If it turns out great then it is a game that I can see myself spending alot of time with, especially since it falls into the 'cozy-sp' category, which means I can just submerge comfortably while going off to eat dinner, or sit back and relax while playing. I like games that require planning and have quiet moments :)

ArmA 2 50% off this weekend on Steam.
ArchangelSKT replied to Fudgeblood's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Well I was, and still am a OFP:CW fan, and even though I skipped ARMA, I was a bit hessitant towards ARMA II, mainly because of the feedback I read on ARMA. Then I was on fire when CM announced their OFP title, and I had high hopes for it, well we all know at least for now how that went. So while being dissapointed I came across the Steam-weekend deal and I am now dl ARMA II from Steam, if this is as good as OFP:CW then the price is a steal for this one. I watched youtube videos from it yesterday and I was pleased by the gritty feeling it has, like OFP:CW. It will take a while to dl and I complete SP before any MP, which will be almost exclusively CO-OP for me. At least BIS redeemed themselves in terms of a sale in my case on the behalf of CM, at least that is something :)
