Ahhh sure enough, the first solution did the trick. I had previously removed the PS/2 mouse from device manager, but it seemed there was also a software component which kept installing another set of 3rd party mouse drivers. All better now, TYVM for the quick reply

Ok, rather odd problem here. When I first instaled OFP some months ago all was fine, now after having recently updated my motherboards chipset .inf files and switching thru a few set's of PS/2 mouse drivers, OFP no longer seems to recognise my scroll wheel. I went as far as reinstalling the game ( ) after which, hitting the middle button would at least open the action menu, but scrolling up or down had no effect at all so I tired another driver for the mouse, then back to nothing from the middle wheel at all. The scroll wheel functions properly in the windows environment and in medal of honor (But really dont want to play MOH that much) so I know at least it's not the mouse gone bad. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so, what they did that managed to fix it?

Yea, here we are with lemon juice and he's pumping Tropicana by the Gallon.

98/se ect capps at 512 Mb then you enter the land of Access violation errors and what not, but up to 512 is kosher

Not to mention the text in most places legible.

Ok, ready for a good laugh? Mr Noob, a.k.a. ME cant for the life of me find the screenshot key, and yes, I have searched the manual front to back. You guy's using Fraps or something for the screen capture?

LMAO, at least the drumsticks would make good toothpicks to get the smaler snake ribs out from between ones teeth.

Well, I've heard from others playing Ghost recon on similar system's they did notice benefit's, thou there was some bottlenecking. Remember your FSB could be a choker for you. I'd think you might better serve yourself getting more Ram, you might also wish to consider when buying your ram that you may be getting a newer Mobo somwhere down the road soon and it could be handy to ensure that the ram you get will be both compatible with your current mobo as well as useable on the newer mobo's i.e. if your current mobo supports pc2100, pc3200 should work, the only difference is that you wont appreciate the benefit of the faster timing, however, it will give you some "starter ram" if you decide to start building a second system further down the road. Prices are pretty good on components these day's. OR, f you dont mind refurbished parts, yu can get some awesome deals here ---> http://www.surpluscomputers.com/ (Great deal on SCSI drives, small capacity, but sweet access time's, very nice for running swapfile &/or games from.)

And also, how good of a compression ratio have you generaly noticed using winzip/rar ect. for squashing down those Mb's? And if you have done so, had you noticed any data loss / corruption as a result?

Still no reason to not looking into squeezing every drop of performance possible from his machine thou, at least he can then be sure he's getting every last penny's worth.

Also, In some other games there have been issues where performance sufered if the game didnt just crash outright in cases where the Monitor resolution varied from the in-game setting, something about the changeover in resolution not setting up properly, most likely related to the Monitor timing standard set on your system compaired to the calls used by some games to establish such a switch having compatibility issues perhaps? (Is'nt guessing off the extreme end fun sometimes.  )  I mention this from your stating the resolution was 1600x1200 and the in game setting was for 1024x768 I run details to high (Not very hgh, just high) at the same resolution / refresh rate) Visibility to 1200 (c'mon 3' away from a 19" screen   )  In the prefrences as I mentioned I set the slider which shows system ram under the advanced settings a tad beyond what I really have and it seems to pass on to VRAM well enough with the stock missions at least. but my other settings are about the same and it runs very well for me in SP. The prefrences setting's "benchmark" tag's me at 2350something And I'm only running a 1.5 Ghz P4 850 Tehama chipset in a POS ECS mobo (Nice chipset thou) 384 Mb 800Mhz Rambus WIndows on C drive 5400 RPM 20 gig Samsung Flashpoint on D ( 40 gig 7200 rpm maxtor) Visiontec Gf4 Ti4400 4x agp Keep in mind I run 98se here and have gone thru the registry tweaking drama of getting this box to hum a little tune for me when I need it to.   You COULD possibly beneft from TweakXP which is a similar tool to the tweakUI tool that Microsoft let out for 98/se ect I believe theres a link to it here somwhere ---> http://www.winguides.com/ and if not, there are more than enough tweaks and tips to make it run like it was there.

But theres no need to defend it against the topic of piracy as you already explained how it wont be enabling people without an authentic disk to play the game, I really do think it's a handy idea, especialy as My install was less than normal with my GOTY pack..There were two periods per disk where the installer took a five minute break and completely froze my system for that time, I thought I had a bad disk for a while there, but after nearly 40 minutes, I got it all together, this would save me from ever having to go thru this mess again.

As far as the intell App accelerator, the one for your chipset was last updated in July of 02', but that shouldnt stop you from searching for if it was ever installed in the first place. For starters, check the list of Program files on your C drive off the start menu. And yes, it works with any motherboard using an Intel chipset http://appsr.intel.com/scripts....t=Go%21 <--- If your running XP Home, Im sure you can find your way from there if not. http://www.voodoofiles.com/type.asp?cat_id=33 <--- Site with a number of utilities for a number of things, the 60Hz refresh rate bug being one of them. I've read where even when you set your adapter rezolution to something other than, it still work's at 60Hz Weird huh? be carefull with any of the utilities, make a restore point before running them ect. just in case (Always better safe than sorry right?) And again, have you used the flashpoint prefrences tool to adjust anything? Are you running in Direct3d or HW T&L mode? And what were those setting's you had in the settings under the display properties window? Some sound like they might help, but in alot of cases, they end up being more of a problem when cranked up too high, turning them down a hair wont cause any suferage on your game or the graphic's more than likely (As far as the Anti-Aliasing and so forth are concerned) V-synch seems to cause more issues than it's worth in some games (In Ghost recon for example, disabling it cause no loss of visual quality while in fact increasing my fps by about 10-20 pts.)
-
In the prefrences utility, did you remember to tell the game you had that much memory? Have you tried adjusting any of the other setting's in there as well? I only run 384 Mb of 800Mhz Rambus, but I lied to the game and told it I had 512 in the pref. setting's, hoping it would then rely on my vram cache, which it seem's to rather nicely, I'm sure it would work even better if I tossed in a small, high spin scsi drive with a nice, low access time. Also, I recall there being a recent update to the Intel Application accelerator, mabey it could help to check that as well (I run a 1.5 Ghz P4, so it's a different App accelerator being as this CPU dosent support hyperthreading {not that it would make a big difference for the game} but I did note an increase in performance when I first set the program up. And if your running windows XP, have you applied one of the various patches or utilities for unlocking the windows XP 60Hz refresh rate / whats your monitors refresh rate currently set to? Also, how about AA, antisoptric filtering, Performance and quality slider, ect for the FX set at? (Or is Flashpoint an OpenGL deal? Im a noob here but figure these are applicable nontheless) I'll see what other ideas I can come up with (BTW, what driver version are you using for the FX?)
-
That just rocks IMHO, especialy as it's something that will only work on the original system and not able to install on other machines (Theft is soooo gay) If I had one, I'd give you a prize. ***Edit: By the way, whats the big difference between doing this and just making the usual backup via windows?

Sorry if it's already been touched on previously, but I really dont need to read the pro-"ban gun's" argument, so pardon me for not reading thru the entire 4 pages. It just seems to me however that if instead of banning everything we deem unsafe left and right and instead focus the enormous piles of monies being used for such ends (left and right) on the task of developing programs which would be aimed towards raising the social conciousness of people, ensuring the majority of society had a clear understanding of common sense and the difference between right and wrong we would be much better off than by doing thing's like banning assault rifles which does little more than ensure the only individuals with assault rifles would be either the militia / police or the criminals who, being criminals arent likely to stop and think "Hey, I'm using an assault rifle here, it's a crime, I better not do this", leaving Joe Q. Public to hope for the random chance that a squad car is rolling by his house at the moment when the criminal with the AK is making his move. But really, if we could focus all this funding towards increasing the social values of the members of our society, wouldnt that be as effective as disarmament, not to mention that they would have a lower likelyhood of just moving on to using blunt instruments, or archery equipment ( A pistol crossbow with a 60lb pull at close range can be very lethal, not to mention silent.) As far as criminals making their own weapons, it's been going on for a looong time, even in the day's of Al capone, you can read of Thug's with "Zip guns", A Zip gun being a makeshift weapon of questionable reliability. And more recently in the area where I live, just two years ago, a local PD busted up a machine shop which was converting those popular AA battery powered MAG-Lites into a single shot weapon.

Ok, so does anyone have a good recomendation for a simple / cheap ($20 u.s.d.) reliable translator I could grab at the local Best buy (i.e. none of that odd "Pastell in the woodshed toemeat" output I've seen from some of the online translators)

Got me on that one, but then I hardly watch TV. Any hint as to when it was aired?

I know, being the universal emoticon for good humored fun. A comet is a large chunk of space ice which leaves a sort of vapor trail behind it, the ice could be a number of frozen gasses. Meteor being a large chunk of random mineral('s) And I believe Asteroid is just a meteor on a much larger scale. Hehe, Night of the COMET that was another one I was trying to think of before. (Mid 80's, turned those who actualy looked at it passing into brain damaged hooligans who turned to dust if you hit them hard enough)

^$&** alarm noise
=MH=FritzDaKat replied to Baron Hurlothrumbo IIX's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Or at least mabey a switch to turn the bugger off (I somehow figure blowing one building with an alarm would more than likely cause another to be triggered elswhere) Of course, mabey there ARE switches in OPF now, the map's have just too big to really find them. -
well I certainly hope your not proposing that the world sit and wait for the U.N. to decide to take decisive action, they'll have space probes "Inspecting" it till the last moment possible before finaly agreeing it could pose a threat Besides, we've already spewed out a number of B rated movies on the subject of asteroids / meteorites. Day of the Triffids (1950's cult classic) Big, nasty mobile mushrooms that turned men into zombies & / or foodstuff, Dawn / Day / Night of / Return of the living, Dead, basis behind the Zombies appearing was a meteor which passed close to earth and theoreticly radiated the corpses or something to that effect. Deep Impact, and of course Meteor. I'm sure theres a bunch I've mised.

Twilight 2000 - good concept?
=MH=FritzDaKat replied to Bluesman's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Ooooh, I remember Twilight 2K from when I had begun to drift away from RPG's back in the late 80's. That would make a sweet addon IMHO. I had been thinking how a "Road Warrior" addon might be cool, with "A-Team" constructed dune buggies and all bristeling with armor and whatnot, but this would make for quite a suitable substitute I think. -
Yes, I had considered that, but as I had seen nothing else since then (Note, I just registered here the other day, or I would have replied sooner) to contradict the notion that Bulldozer wont work with the GOTY edition i figured it was worth posting. I generaly try not to be a "grave digger" in forum's, but incases like this one, I figured that my 2 cent's might help someone out.
-
Arg, cant seem to find the tutorial or any instructions for proper instalation here, the majority of related links for tutorials seem to bring me to a dns error page I first had it in it's own folder, then tried unzipping it right to the same folder as the OFP exe, but still no luck. Am I just putting it in the wrong spot (i.e. should it be in with O2?) Or is there an incompatibility issue with the GOTY edition? (ver 1.91) ?!? O2, Blldozer & Visitor seem to be working normaly, but I've hit this brick wall with wrpedit
-
Ummm, I'm a complete noob here, but Bulldozer seems to be working just fine for me with my GOTY edition. What I cant seem to get straight is wrpedit
