illegal copies may degrade ? WTF

not multiplayer. was planning that for a survey session later on.. no, one copy is for a friend who lives in germany, that ive still not sent to him. i run my own copy. 1.04 patched too, absolutely no mods installed. sorry to confuse the issue there. Just emphasising im not a cracker or whatever u wana call that,, my pbo and testing is done in the addons folder. nothing new added to the exe shortcut ---------- Post added at 02:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:10 PM ---------- and does that mean this fade i hear about has got activated ?. im gona be super upset soon i think.
  2. it would be interesting to see the original campaign in there. that woould mean we have to recreate this island like codies did. are we going to do that ? cant answer that just now. we got our own ideas coming slowly. ive a few ideas for special features, one explcitily for a second base with a real life twist. it should keep all the pilots happy :) as well as test there skills,
  3. geographical features. We have optimised alot so far. and thus it has changed to some degree, personally im unhappy with jaggy landscapes, pointy ridges etc, we are trying to retain a natural feel and at the same time trying to produce this addon in line with what is technically possible within arma2 and without going overboard. Whilst it does retain some un-natural features theres a certain degree of them that have to remain. The task thereafter is to conceal these visual deficiencies as much as possible. I hope you will be pleasantly suprised, and we meet your expectations. the outcome being that many geographical features have been preserved and optimised in order to provide a large a viewing distance as possible. i cant really explain how essential it is to feel that your on an island simply by being able to view the last geographical feature present (the coast or mountain ridge).. when fogging creeps in its just not right. this is what we must avoid imo. u can make the weather bad and add that atmopshere, which i believe chernarus uses effectivly. but for Kiska its our aim to not have to go there. ofcourse that option will be possible and should be used for the purposes of optimisation thereafter. i like non diffused light and direct sunlight :) for our addon. i like the warm feeling not the cold dank depressing stuff. i gota give my thanks to Rstratton, his recent optimisation of the heightmap is outstanding. After a quick test in traversing the scenery in an m1a1, i believe this island is going to provide some seriously good gameplay.
  4. a very small but important update. we have the island mesh terrain looking good and working at 10km view distance, with plenty frames to spare, YEYWOO ! currently its 20km long which is shorter than the real island but we feel its necessary to do this in order for the island to work to its potential, its heighest peak reaches about 600 metres. 2 things i like so far, the range of distance between the mountains does split the area up into zones, meaning lower view distances should work without detracting the user from feeling necessary to make him believe hes on a large-ish island. Edit- hovering around the middle of the island and sweeping the view from west to east and seeing the whole extents of the scenery is incredible. the island gives a good feeling of situational awareness, you seem to know where you are at all times, unlike my experiences with cher. on kiska u know where N.S.E.W are instantly.. ! feels good.
  5. @bushlurker, how about a real location modelled at 1:1 size from scotland. for e.g. loch lomond, theres a military zone up there, for the flying aspect scottish glens and ageing mountains would be a popular hit. iam biased however being from glasgow :)
  6. just to point out, its a 35 mile long island, this will fit into a 30 x 30km region, it cant be that full of this that and the next, or else it will grind to a halt, already 10km view distance IS an issue working at this size (currently 20x20km island) Edit - Fixed 10K is good to go :) draw distance in ofp is superior to that of arma2 because it doesnt render as much in between. part of me likes the baron feel along with the challenge of a faithfull reproduction. but this island is far to baron and needs enhanced as have the cm devs done. but this can only go so far due to the reasons above. one thing is the island will be green with lots of grass (and the other type:) ) and hopefully a more forrested feel unlike ofp,s sporadic placement of clumps of trees. we are aiming (not a definate) for seasonal changes on this island too. winter / summer
  7. lets not rip anything off, infact to exceed the OFPDR island in terms of playability and general levels of detail is the idea. if that involves a set campaign then so be it, but that will come when the island is finished. (it'll be done when its done). real question is what to do with the volcano. 1. an actual volcano with special effects (erupting) :) in a world of fantasy anythings possible here. :) 2. secret chinese rocket base ! ala james bond style. 3. airwolf's lair. (LOL)
  8. positive comments, the project shall continue.. we the designers were thinking of enhancing it in relation to whats depicted in ofp. we would like to clarifiy that we have no interest in causing upset for codemasters or the recently re invented IP for dragon rising. its just another project, one that is based on the fact that in reality this is a real island. At this stage we are not sure what direction to take the project in terms of its inclusion within arma2 as a mod but alas we have some ideas, its a very baron island with space for whatever is necessary to enhance it. it has some extensive WW2 history. see wiki for that. We would welcome some input for ideas !
  9. how about this island lol. After all it is real. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=51.980651,177.518463&spn=0.28801,0.959244&t=h&z=11 actually im not sure if this island would be a touchy subject or not. but here goes anyway. would this piss anyone off to see it in arma2 ? http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m189/alifish_idt/ofpva2scenery.jpg

    Nvidia 191.07 arma2 performance increase

i can report through my problems here there and everywhere else. that these drivers rock ! in arma2 the quoted 12% increase could only equate to about 3-5 fps. i noticed various elements that were incredibly smoother including zoom function and general handling of textures, not as much pop up as before. i highly recommend these drivers.
  12. well strangely enough ive fixed my problems, it would appear my system does not like all the settings configured seperatly. i simply press very high for the default configuration and the problems go away, returning when i start to customise, post processing seems ok to reset to my preferance (LOW) but when changing textures and shadows thereafter the problems creep back in.
  13. ive tried that flush command, amung a few other things that i shouldnt have to do in the bios. regards the flush - within seconds the problems returned, worse than ever. another flush and it has been ok for about 10 mins, then locked up when i tried to set texture to low. (incidentally when set to low the screen and program refreshes and when setting any other texture setting there after nothing changes, nothing happens. this is utes scenarios, let alone the vast chernarus... actually arma2 by the day is getting worse. close to giving up. iam at the conclusion that its either a DX problem, gtx280 problem ,an nvidia or a BIS problem. so i dont believe its a dx problem. i dont believe its an nvidia problem. my gtx280 is brand new, and works everywhere else. how long will i have to wait to see the fruits of my labour (financial outlay & time spent every day trying to understand whats wrong ???) im sure BIs will see the fruits of there labour given there making more titles . i hear there a small team this and small team that and it takes ages for this that and the bloody next. but BIS wheres the quality assurance !. You really do need it and its not offensive to say so. i thought i was ment to play this software, not bloody well try make my system suit it in one respect or another. its a sad sad show this arma2 is for the people that cant get there enjoyment and wait patiently for somthing that indicates the patches are fixing things. every single one for me has brought a new problem. its just not acceptable. imo.
  14. its irrelevant what seetings i set, ive tried absolutely everything since release, nearly every day, to rectify the problem. dodgy software. its a definate my problems are like this video from telejunky just the eminating triangles from "things" http://forums.bistudio.com/showpost.php?p=1441078&postcount=675
  15. @bushlurker : not quite as bad as those. but the flashing has started recently. it wasnt tehre prior to 1.4 patch..mainly i might have a big black triangle sprouting out the top of my gun, or the end of my tank cannon. or im in a forrest and theres a plain spanning the forrest like a portal to another dimension. sometimes it has a texture on it. i also have what appear to pipes going into the sky as far as the view distance will take it. today i had 3 triangles that were looking like shadows coming from my chin while character was on his back in pain. it takes many every form going. sometimes it look like shadows problem ,other times its a model issue. and sometimes these artifacts appear to be of 3d construction too, but mainly 2d artifacts. ive tried every single setting going. only had this problem since v1.2 (i dont use beta's) i thought id fixed it by settings texures to low then to high. memory setting has been tested with every concievable option. at one stage i was convinced the -winxp line fixed it, but alas it returned. temperatures are all fine. by all apearances everything is fine, just not the software unfortunatly. its becoming highly annoying too as i spent £1400 to have some fun on this.. my config. language="English"; adapter=-1; 3D_Performance=93750; Resolution_Bpp=32; Resolution_W=1920; Resolution_H=1080; refresh=60; Render_W=1920; Render_H=1080; FSAA=1; postFX=1; HDRPrecision=8; lastDeviceId=""; localVRAM=1058734080; nonlocalVRAM=1341386752; i have 3 gig of memory, and i have a gtx280 graphics card with 792 meg onboard. could someone suggest some figure to put in there please ? i presume its the local and nonlocal VRAM figures were on about ? what is what here, local is graphics card ram and non local is onboard ram ?
  16. beta ? i have this on 1.04 ,had it on 1.03 too & without any beta's installed. i7(950) 3gig ram gtx280 (190.62) another issues that happens along side this flicker is that i have few flashing triangles also ,and poly,s are being distorted to cover the length & depth of the island. only thing that seems to fix my triangle issues is to set textures to low, then back to high.. then next time it launches i have to repeat . a flickering bloody mess this game is now.
