I don't know whether it's meant to be like this or not but i've noticed say every once in three missions in the armoury there will be a stryker either attacking or in defense. For example, watch this vid. All i've got is an assault rifle with a grenade launcher, how the heck am I meant to take on a stryker with either a machine gun or grenade/rocket launcher?

He's right, while graphically it's significantly better there are still LOTS of problems with ArmA currently. Wait six months and ask the same question again, infact.. you could get the demo now and six months later and see the difference.
-
So very true, currently the game engine is technically better but the single player games and addon missions of OFP were light years better than Armed Assaults. Whenever I play the campaign it always feels rushed and more as an afterthought rather than an integral part of the game.

When are the iron sights going to be sorted? It's pretty much impossible to use the iron sights for anything but short range shooting. I'm finding that the only way for me to get any kills at a distance is to use weapons which have optics where the sight is fixed. (for example acog) It's incredibly frustrating, it's like trying to control a gun made of jello. Can't we please have an option to enable the previous locked iron sights? Or at least doing something like when in the iron sights holding down the right mouse button locks the view? It can't be that hard to implement, I mean.. you still have the code from the locked iron sights.
-
This is what i've been trying to say, holding down the hold breath/right mouse button should lock the view. It's deeply frustrating trying to focus on shooting when the gun is swaying like it's made out of jello.
-
Yep, that's what I did this morning. Put it to the minimum and it's pretty much how I wanted it, back to the original sights as in OFP and pre-1.05 ArmA. Pity the non-iron sights view is locked, it'd be a good idea to have a two sliders.. one for the normal view and one for the iron sights.

Again, if you have nothing to contribute to this don't post. You're just flame baiting.

majoris23 and USM-75R.Hspd |XO| if you've nothing constructive to add, get lost. Thanks twisted, the whole floating weapon thing seems to have improved it quite a bit.. I only had a quick look tho, i'll get to have a proper experiment later and see how it goes.

Ok, I heard before that there was some bug in the ATI drivers that caused probs in ArmA? Well, today I just decided to give ArmA a go after a month or so of not playing and this happened: -- Vid here when its approved on google video -- This was AFTER a multiplayer game (after i quit out of it), in the game it became unplayable.. here's a couple of fun snaps during the multiplayer game.. My specs: DFI Lanparty SLI-D Motherboard (Latest nvidia nforce4 drivers) Sapphire 512MB X1900XTX graphics card (7.4 Catalyst drivers) 2GB DDR500 OCZ Mem Athlon 64 X2 4800+ (Socket 939) 2x 250GB Western Digital SATA 2 drivers in RAID-0 SATA CD/DVD drive ViewSonic VX924 monitor etc etc

Did you read my post in full? I said, zip is a far more widely used compression format, thus it is the most logical option. And having a smaller file still won't keep demand lower. By that reasoning then everyone should still be using lzh! (because that and lha were a damn sight more popular than zip back in the day.. but you know why zip became popular? Because it gave better compression over lzh, lha etc) What you're proposing is a non-argument. Just because it's the most common format currently does not make it the best thing to use. You're completely missing the point. I've no idea where you got the demand thing from, I made no mention of that. BIS are having problems getting the patches out. As a matter of fact it WOULD help BIS if people spent less time using up their bandwidth which a smaller filesize does.
-
So what if zip is getting old? It is one of the most widely, if not the most widely, used compressing formats and nearly everybody has winzip or winrar and windows xp can unzip files. That's why they used ZIP. For those of you with mouse lag problems: turn off vsync. I like the patch, I have the same if not better preformance as before. Did you read my post in full? Winrar can also decompress 7-zip files. AND the patch compressed using 7-zip is 50MB SMALLER than the ZIP version. It would be better for everyone if bis made their patches available in 7-zip format. Then everyone would get their updates faster and bis wouldn't see their servers exploding into flames.

I think it's a good idea, but what I think they should have done is when you use right click to zoom in when using the iron sights it moves from the floating view to the locked view of 1.04 and below. That way, you have the floating view for close up stuff and when you want to do normal (longish range) shooting you then have the proper locked looking through the iron sights view.

First of all. * Can we have the option to go back to the old iron sights? When i'm using the machine gun or just using the iron sights in general i'm finding it significantly harder to hit anything. The option to enable the old style would be nice. (or if holding down right mouse whilst in the iron sights, instead of just zooming in. Also locks into the iron sights?) * Can you compress all future updates using 7zip? The 1.04 to 1.05 update which is a 226MB zip file is too big for most people and there is an advantage to using 7zip. I compressed the euro 1.04 to 1.05 update (285MB exe) to 176MB using 7zip. I think you'd agree that a 50MB difference between zip and 7zip is quite a big one. It'd be better for everyone, this way the BIS servers get hammered less and it takes less time for people to download their updates. By the way, if you don't believe me; Here are the settings I used for 7zip. And here's a comparison of the file sizes, I also compressed the exe using winrar too. (as a test) Zip is getting seriously old now, dump it and use something better like 7-zip.

AA definitely seems to have quite a few ai bugs as well. For example... Number 8 kept staying still, because I didn't know which soldier it was I decided to go on a killing spree. Eventually I found him standing perfectly still, restarted the mission and before I was ordered to get in the vehicle I shot the little git in the face. (btw, restarting the mission he still did the same thing) The pathing problems that were in OFP are still present in AA, its been a few years since OFP and yet the engine still has the same problems.

One thing I loved about the old sniper skin in OFP was that it blended decently well into foliage. Ever since I went to Battlefield 2 for my sniping fix i've gotten used to a well camoflaged sniper skin with a ghille suit. However, there is no ghille skinned sniper at all in AA! I'm hoping to make a couple of multiplayer sniper fest missions and the lack of a ghille suit takes a large chunk of the fun away. It becomes trivial to spot other players and takes away a massive part of the challenge away. Is there any chance of bis adding a proper sniper to the game at all?

I agree, it's kind of odd how people aren't thrown away from an explosion.. you'd think there was an invisible wall that blocked the blast but still killed them. On a completely different note, I got AA yesterday and had a play around for a bit. One thing that I find truly shocking..... No jeep tossing. Yes, you read that right.. I went into the mission editor, placed a bunch of satchel charges under a humvee and it didn't fly! Oh BIS, if only you had kept that from OFP.

I've been playing the demo all day today with some friends and i've got AA on order. A few things that are really odd that i've noticed; (also sort of questions too) * Regardless of what terrain, texture details etc I set I get the exact same framerate bizarrely. (which on capture the island varies form 10-30fps and in capture the flag is 20-60fps) * Is there a way to set the desired frame rate like you could with Operation Flashpoint? * As an addendum to that is there a tweak guide around? * Does the game take advantage of dual core systems? If not then would it be better for me to simply use the dedicated server running that on one core whilst I run the game on another? My system: Athlon X2 64 4800+ DFI Lanparty UT SLI-D Sapphire 512MB X1900XTX 2GB of ram etc etc

* The game. * A manual like they used to make in the olden days of gaming, you know the type.. so large you could use it to beat baby seals to death with. * A map sounds like a good idea, A3 size is probably about right. * No starforce. * No requirement to have the cd/dvd in the drive whilst playing, i'm happy with a serial for the game but modern pc games simply don't need cd/dvd checks. They're easilly bypassed with a no-cd crack and only punish the people who buy your game.

Since the Catalyst 3.7 (3.7 to the current 3.9) drivers Operation Flashpoint Resistance has been unplayable as it doesn't draw practically anything, menu's, vehicles etc. At a guess i'd say its probably a driver issue but is it possible for BIS to inform ATI of this problem? Since they're going to take a lot more notice of a games maker rather than some guy with one of their graphics cards. If I play Operation Flashpoint (different exe than the resistance one) then the graphics etc are fine, its just when I use the resistance program. My graphics card in question is a 256MB ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. My motherboard is a MSI K7N2G-ILSR, nforce2 chipset etc. OS is Windows XP Pro SP1. Look at this picture to see my point. [EDIT]Just changed the name of the mobo, noticed i'd mistyped it[/EDIT]
-
-OpFragpoint- is it the same on both Operation Flashpoint and the Resistance executables? It only happens to me with the Resistance exe. I just tried the current Omega drivers and it's still the same as the 3.7, 3.8 and 3.9 ATI Catalyst drivers.

Exact same problem here - spent the last 4 days trying every tip and suggestion from every post I could find (searched for "green", "olive", and "green screen" - went through them all!!) Â and I'm still having the same problem. P4 2.6Ghz I865 chipset 1GB memory GeForce FX 5600 Ultra (128MB) DX 9.0 latest drivers for EVERYTHING!! v1.94 patched using -nomap, -nosplash and mod folders Win XP Home I have all of the BAS addons EXCEPT Tonal and Tango Packs. Runs fine until I install Tonal/Tango packs and then all I get are green screens when starting up. Now, if I perform a clean install and add ONLY the Tonal/Tango packs, same problem from the get go. If I leave out the Tonal/Tango packs, I can throw in GB's of addons and it runs fine. I'd take any suggestions on how to get this working but if it's already been posted, I've tried it at least twice!!! Have you out of curiousity tried an older driver? Operation Flashpoint Resistance works fine when I use the ATI Catalyst 3.6 drivers from the cd that came with my card. Thing is, I kinda prefer the 3.9 drivers plus all the nice little boosts it gives. I've got 1GB of memory here too, 2x PC3200 (DDR 400) 512MB dimm's dual channel'd on my nforce 2 chipset, lovely. Â Processor is a Athlon XP 3000+. I wouldn't expect the exact same thing to happen on a totally different graphics card though, does it look _exactly_ the same as the pic I posted above? If it is then it has to be a Operation Flashpoint Resistance issue with certain cards and not driver related as I thought.

I just found the 1.94 beta, did as you mentioned and its still exactly the same as before. No displaying of intro logo's, no displaying of menu's etc. When you move the mouse about you can hear the click type sound as you move the cursor (which you cannot see either) over the menu selections.
