  1. Move the desert ambush map out of the MPMissions directory, and put it in your user/missions directory. Now, just open the map up with the mission editor and off ya go. When you're done previewing and editing, move it back the the MPMissions folder to play with it online.

    A SDK is a MUST!

Yeah, if it means no cheating, then keep the SDK out of the public's hands, and only give it to people who are actually going to use it to make real mods. I would like to see user-made weapons and vehicles, though. Only problem is that you have to have all the addons the host does in a MP game or you can't play the same game. Unless there's some way to send addons like they do a map before a game, that's going to make MP a pain in the ass.

1 thing no has talked about!

    1. I don't think the V-22 was around in 1985. Not in military use, anyway. 2. They crash a lot. I don't know about you, but I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable taking my squad up in one of those things. Gotta look out for my men, you know...

    Sniper Team Mission

I always avoid that truck full of soldiers. I get in the jeep and race towards the camp. After crossing the first dirt road, I get into the trees and wait for that truck, then kill everyone in it. Then I move on to the base. You don't really need the jeep once you get within reasonable distance of the base, as it will just give away your position. Remember where it is, though, you'll need it once you've assassinate the officers.

    OFP crashing with RAM

I bought cheap RAM for my AMD/VIA setup, and could not figure out for months why my system would lock up, crash, or spontaneously reboot during all of my games. Finally I said screw it, bought a 512MB stick of Crucial RAM, and have not had a single crash since. That was over a month ago. Don't buy cheap RAM, it will only come back around to bite you in the ass. Crucial (the best stuff you can get) is $30 for a 256MB stick shipped. Try the computer with each of your RAM sticks in by itself - if you only get the problem with the new stick, it's almost certainly faulty RAM. Go for it, see if that fixes the problem.

    MAJOR PROBLEM

Backup your registry, then go in to Regedit and find any folders or keys pertaining to Codemasters and delete those. Then reinstall and try again. But make SURE you BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY FIRST. (disclaimer ) Also, what does it to when you try to save? Does it look likes it saves, but doesn't? Does it lock up? Crash? What?

    W ?

Don't be sorry. You are correct. If you want to do a job right, you select the best tool. You don't worry about whether or not the other tools will be offended because they weren't chosen for the job. The answer is simple, they don't do the job as well. Utilitarianism should be the rule in armed forces.

    Best MP Co-oP mission

Thundercok - so YOU'RE the one who made Willard and The Meeting. I can't get Willard to run right, it just drops me to the desktop. Anyway, wtf do I do in The Meeting? I know the civ goes off to find the general (or colonel, or whatever), and I hear helicopters in the distance, but I can't figure out what to do. The civ disappears before I can follow him, and nothing else happens. Help?

    The Problems with Multiplayer Online

I hate it, but I DO use Gamespy Arcade to find games. I use All-Seeing Eye to find Wolfenstein games, but for OFP it's just pointless, because of the issues mentioned above. I simply do not have time to set aside 45 minutes of my time in the hope that I *may* be able to get 10 minutes of actual playing time in. At least with Gamespy, I can find a game within ten minutes or so. That's still a rediculous amount of time to wait to get into a game, but what can you do (besides make your opinion known to developers who really don't care)? Whoever thought the current non-join-in-progress facet of OFP was a good idea should be forced to play OFP MP for a month using Gamespy on public servers. It just flat out sucks ass, any which way you cut it. This game is probably the most unique and engrossing game I've ever played. It's a real pity that it's status is crippled by poor foresight in the development process. Oh well, they can always get it right in OFP2. Are you listening, BIS? I really, REALLY hope so...

    Chinook Idea

I don't think the engine can handle vehicles inside other vehicles very well, if at all. It's a good idea though. With all the new ideas being thrown around on this forum, I don't think BIS will have any shortage of possibilities for OFP2.

Join in Progress, The Solutions, Suma please read.

It CAN be done. BIS just doesn't want to put forth the effort. They failed to incorporate this critical design element in their game fromthe start, and now it's biting them in the ass. Who honestly thought this was a good way to play multiplayer games? Didn't any one at BIS think, "You know, this is a real pain in the ass" way back before the code was finished or optimized? Ah, it's all water under the bridge now I guess... A JIP feature may not be possible in the conventional sense (as in CS or DoD, or Quake 3). But there has to be some way of incorporating a workaround. I would be willing to "pause" the game every once in awhile to allow a new player to join. Beats playing for 10 minutes and then getting disconnected or running around an empty map because everyone has left and no one else can rejoin. If we put our heads together, and if BIS will honestly put some effort into what is BY FAR the most demanded feature of this game, we can figure something out.

    Joining during a battle

Operation Flashpoint is probably the most bittersweet game I've ever played. Â Sweet because it's everything I've ever wanted in a game, bitter because I can only have the great MP experience once in a while when I happen to find a good server and don't get dumped before getting into the game. Â Max Payne was just released in July. Â Has anyone even heard a whisper about it recently? Â No, because once you're done with the SP game, it's all done. Â The same thing is happening to OFP in a way. Â Most of the mainstream gaming audience has already migrated away to other games, turned off by the initial online gameplay issues and lack of join-in-game feature, which is a staple in any FPS game nowadays. Â Only the dedicated, hard-core audience have the patience and resolve to stick with the MP aspect. Â Everyone else will just go play CS or DoD, because you don't have to wait 30 minutes to play the game for 30 minutes (or, as is usually the case, even less). Â Â I can't even get into a game of more than 8 players, simply because of the fact that it is nearly impossible to find more than 8 people who all happen to be in the same place at the same time and have the patience necessary to wait it out. Â In games like CS and DoD, there is a snowball effect. Â The server may start out slow, but once you get 3, 4, 5 people playing, the number quickly grows to 12 or more. Â In OFP, the exact reverse is the norm. Â Once people get dropped, there's no way for them to get back in. Â I've had several games where I've started with 6 or more players and ended up running around by myself and didn't even know it for several minutes because there isn't even a message to tell you when people have dropped. Â I'll put this simply: Â I just don't have the time to sit around waiting for a game to start. Â The only time I get to play OFP MP is on weekend evenings, because it's the only time I have the spare time to devote to painstakingly hunting down a MP game that I can actually play. Â And to be honest, it really, really sucks, because I love this game so much. Â People just don't want to play when it's more work than fun to get into a game. As it is, we now have to settle for imagining those huge battlefields, because they're not going to be a reality. Â *sigh* (Edited by 762WorldOrder at 12:36 am on Oct. 18, 2001)

    Vote, pro or contra Gamespy?

Contra. 1000% Contra. Gamespy is scraping the bottom of the barrel of game services. If they wanted to do that, they should have used Kali, which is far and away superior to Gamespy in every respect.
