I think he makes some valid points if BIS want to have the success they previously only had with OFP then they need to implement innovative and up-to-date game mechanics like these. edit: take note dev's. remember dynamic building destruction you promised? what happened to being ahead of the game?
-
When in overcast conditions dynamic shadows are not used, even under dim lit conditions objects will cast a shadow, for example a car on an overcast day will still cast a dark shadow under it's chasis. it looks very out of place either having shadows on or off. i hope you will consider this suggestion. thx -Jamie

lol, bit off topic

exactly, any dev's want to comment?

That looks great! i concur  excellent job there cobra

that grenade looked pathetic, id rather it looked like halo tbh here is another youtube vid of a grenade that doesnt look like a firecracker:
-
A pretty good example of an explosion effect in a game would be Halo: http://www.everetts.plus.com/Files/Halo-Grenade.avi notice the initial blast Â
-
i already sent a PM to Placebo about this but have not got a reply back: i think this kind of thing would annoy me after playing the game for ages, lets hope it gets improved Â

grammar is a little off why are you posting in the ArmA forum if you swear you wont buy the game :s

I dont see why it should cause such a great drop in frame rate. The original system knows which limb the bullets hit and reacts to that by covering that limb in blood. All you need to do is make it a little more specific in where the bullet hit and change that patch of blood to a red round hole. Hitman manges it well. For a gaming PC mine is quite average yet in certain scenes in Hitman there are huge (and i really mean it) crowds where I will drop to about 20 FPS and I can shoot these people (making the damage system kick in) with only another 2 frame drop. My PC: P4 2.66Ghz, 1GB RAM, Geforce 6800 128mb Hitman BM settings: 1280x1024 reso, renders medium no, it would not be easy, the engine would have to create new verticies on demand where the wound was made, we are starting to see this kind of technology being used but it would add too much development time to code and implement such a feature, especially considering that it is only cosmetic. and what would you expect to happen if a convoy gets blown up, 10-20 units all being dynamically deformed, the game would most certainly slow down. enough ranting, i need some sleep

i read in a recent article that north does not have its own air force. are you sure?
-
please BIS, implement this, that would be so cool doesnt sound that hard to me tbh, the lower the RGB values the closer they are to each other (lower the brightness the lower the colour vibrance)

from ArmedAssault.eu:

nice, so really hot objects give off radio waves aswell!

No motherboard has 4 PCI-X and is SLI. If there is, please link me to it The 7900 is a single GPU card, the 7950 however, is the dual GPU card, so two 7900's in SLI would only require two PCI-E slots btw i saw a 7900 on eBay for Å185, pretty cheap

24Gamer, I saw your original post as well... Â No problem here! Like I have said, I myself am far from an expert on this... Now shouldn't we get back to discussing how all of this could be implemented in ArmA? Peace, DreDay agreed i think it would be a great feature because it adds more depth to the gameplay: ability to use Near IR Flashlights too see better dark but at the same time if someone is using Near/Passive IR NV then you would stick out like a saw thumb :P (balanced gameplay) wonder if they could also implement Far/Thermal IR NV (like in IGI2, i think) it wouldnt be that hard to implement either, just make Units glow white and most other things black
-
2MB of RAM!! what a beast
-
just checked on Wiki, aparently there are two types of IR, Near and Far, Far being Thermal Imaging, Near being an extension of visible light. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_vision GBee:yeah, sry, hehe
-
i thought passive IR was like those cameras you see on "World scariest police chases" hehe (where cars and people appear white (IR Heat) etc) i thought OFP had just plain old Night Vision (i.e. light displayed as green which is a better visible spectrum) btw i think it would be sweet to have IR heatlights and as someguy said it doesnt make it a disadvantage cuz passive IR would pick up the heat off the BMP ANYWAY!
-
yeah, your poll is a bit odd considering two of the options mean the same thing, ie. no "ArmA is Better than G2/VBS2" but obviously G2 is going to look better than ArmA, i mean it is going to come out 2 years+ later, you would expect better graphics, i would say ArmA is going to be in line with VBS2 tho.

just looked up the cost of that laptop tho, Å1,400, you get a much better PC for that price, im talking Dual 7900 SLi

Armed Assault - should the name be changed?
24Gamer replied to theavonlady's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
although i think its too late to change the title (considering release date is less than a few months away), i dont believe Armed Assualt is such a bad name, unfortunatly it does sound like a bad game but if they can advertise how good the game really is to the mainstream it could still do well. i also think this confusion with AA (Anti-Alising/Americas Army) is a bit lame, just use ArmA! people suggesting to put flashpoint in the title is slightly out of place considering flashpoint was the operation name of the origonal. Operation Armed Assualt is a good tie in i think. also abbriviates to OAA/ArmA. but whatever im happy with Armed Assualt, dont judge a book by its cover  edit: and who says we cant use operation? just because codemasters owns the name operation: flashpoint doesnt mean that no game is allowed to use the word operation :P its like saying no game can use call or duty because 'call of duty' is a registered trademark. -
the link does not seem to work at the moment, do you have a mirror? thanks

all this discussion on whether a hind will be in the game or not, i dont really care, just want to play the damn game! heh
