    New technology has been discussed with John Carmack, co-founder of id software who worked on the Doom games and is currently using a new technology called megatexturing on the game Quake Wars. basically it allows for unlimited sized textures to be used without overloading the memory, i think this will be very useful for next-gen games, specifically for large terrains (which Game2 will no doubt have). The only limitation is storage space (which isnt really an issue for PCs) and artist detail. Here is a link to the article: MegaTexturing Article

    merged the briefing map into the map of the whole island so you can get an idea of the size :P Map plus you need to remember that the amount of soldiers in the SP campaign is finite, i.e. if you end up losing all your teammates in the first mission you dont go into the next mission with them (like you can in OFP if i remember, been a while since i played the campaign :P).

    Video compression. its not all down to compression, that effect is quite poor, but it is still WIP, cant be too critical of it until we see the final version.

    btw i wasnt expecting ArmA to display graphics anywhere near what is shown in crysis, but they can do better than what was in that trailer :P

    just noticed that in the first scene none of the soldiers have shadows either (but all do later on in the trailer) so hopefully it was an earlier build.

    love the video, always happy to see more of ArmA, especially like the soldier animations, i do have some criticism tho: the trailer looked quite amateurishly done, parts of it had slowdown, you'd think they could at least pre-render it or get a decent system to run it. the compression of the video was pretty poor, colours were a bit funky in places. as for the game, i hope they improve those particle effects, they look quite bad (i hope its WIP), i prefer the OFP one tbh. and the Humvee's didn't render and shadows (its a small thing i know). i also saw the comment about the funny running animations made in the black hawk scenes, i got a screenshot of it, haha i don't want to have sounded pessimistic but i have high expectations of ArmA keep up the good work BIS

    hope the fix the static tree shadows, prolly implemented the swaying trees without making them generate dynamic shadows, would make it look even more tropical with the slowly moving tree shadows. cant wait to see ArmA at E3

    Do they mean LODs? Â for example bump mapping (aka normal map), not sure what all six are tho. specular, diffusion, texture (of course) layers could be some. edit: btw LOD stands for level of detail not layers of detail.
