  1. You dont need to have any mods server is running to join the server if the mission that is being played does not require any mods.

    Example:

If server is running Warfare BE Sahrani and you dont have CAA1, you cant join.

If server is running Warfare BE Takistan and you dont have CAA1, you can join.

    I hope this made sense.

My problem however, is that I cannot join my server regardless of mission that is being played. Even if no mission is running I get kicked off with CAA1. If I dont use CAA1 on my side it works fine becouse I do not use, apparently faulty, oac_core.pbo.

In other words, my server thinks that my oac_core.pbo is not the same as oac_core.pbo on the server. Which is nonsense, since I copied the same files, even redownloaded the same file on both sides and triple checked its the same. The keys are also the same on my PC and server so I dunno wtf more can I do.

The only thing I see here that may be wrong is all the CAA1 .pbo files have .bisign files the size of 289 bytes except oac_core's .bisign is 293 bytes...

  2. I agree with you wipman. I think middle ground would be lowering weapons sway while walking. Also there is a difference in speed if you hold walk key or not while in ADS. You walk slower if you hold the walk key/toggle walk. The difference in speed and weapon sway/wobble should be much greater. Like 50% or so (maybe more, maybe less, should be tested).

    So:

ADS + walk => used for outdoor CQB

ADS + run => walking fast/almost running, used to return fire but still advance faster, not to kill.

When not in ADS it should stay the same as it is.

Solution like this would immensely improve outdoor CQB/mid range fire fights.

Indoors CQB is another matter though. I have to say, there is some problems. I often get stuck for NO reason. There is clearly enough room to turn around and I just get stuck, sometimes just for a moment. Im not talking about going trough doorway sideways.

Kind of solution is ST Movement addon, however this removes any collision.

Of course it does matter if you have a Mp5/sidearm in your hands or Barrett.

If you play without any mods like Proper, ST - stock ArmA 2 then the best way to operate in a tight building is to follow the momentum. You should not stop while going upstairs or around a tight corner. Always keep walking, preferably in ADS so you can controll how fast you go in "slow mode". Everything else gets you stuck. However sometimes you just have to lower the gun (mp5, cant do that for pistols, dont need to for that purpose anyway).

Similar thing I noticed in SWAT 4, where you loose a lot of accuracy if you stop walking or start running. Even GRAW (especially 1st) had somekind of momentum.

Well in ArmA 2 you get stuck.

Bugs with rocks, binoculars/laser designator or "prone near wall" do not have much to do with CQB problem but sure are annoying and when newcomers see things like that... well it doesnt help to get them into it. If those would get fixed it would make everything much more enjoyable.

Another thing that would help would be switching to sidearm and secondary while walking.

For me the biggest defference between OPF and A2 is that in OPF you could walk forward in ADS and hit everything spot on. Sure animations were a lot faster and there was no delay when going from crouch to "stand up" for example. In ArmA2, if you are standing still, there is a delay, if you keep moving there is not.

Movement is not perfect, it could use some improvements, some new features but over all its the right way to go. I personally use ST becouse I dont get stuck so much and I use some proper addons like reduced weapon weight.

  3. SpecterM, I had your problem a while ago but after format it was working fine. Now situation turned into this:

    -Server is running CAA1

+When client tries to join with CAA1 he gets kicked off due to oac_core

+When client tries to join withOUT CAA1 it works fine.

So, in my case it seems like files from my PC would not match server files despite I copied the same files.

In your case it seems like your missions are dependent on oac_core or similar. However I am not sure this really is the problem.

  4. I set up CAA1 on my PC and server and at first it was working fine but now I always get kicked of due to oac_core. Same file is on the server so I dont know what the problem is. I have a fix of oac_core from december 2010 but still aint working. Anyone has an idea? Is there a new key or something?

  5. Crysis 1 still looks a hell of a lot better and didn't have the bloom and blur at levels Crysis 2 does.

The visuals are still good despite them but it just doesn't have the HOLY F$%#!!! effect the first did when you loaded it up.

    It's clearly been consolized.

Because the game uses unlocks, XP points and such which are saved on a remote server.

    Consolized? Yeah, thats an understatement.

  6. I vote no to steam-only even if you can mod it, play or whatever still the same. Steam is the devil.

For example, lets take Black Ops, disregarding how the gameplay is. When you buy it from the local store, in a box and put it in the DVD player, its not the same as CoD 4, is it.

If it needs to be something only, I say non-steam only as well. Like it always was.

For me personally, steam cant give me anything more. I dont buy games online except ArmA 2 DLCs, I dont chat on steam.

I really can take a minute to patch the game. Hell, Im patching missions, mods or whatever daily. Downloading stuff all the time. So what is one patch per month or two more.

"Easer to join your friends with steam and make new friends?" Love-meet.com, really?

If I could somehow just forget about a million "Steam is currently unavailable, go fuck yourself" messages in the past few years, steam still feels like some kind of xbox live thing. Same goes for games for windows and all that crap.

  7. no. plus there is a different type of fuse and warhead used for AT and another for AA weapons.

On wiki it says that it is a heat-seeking/IR missile. So if the ground is not hot enough, why couldnt it be used on anything that generates enough heat? Engines of planes sure are very hot and maybe sidewinders are set only to that degree of heat, which I doubt. I think, sidewinder can be used against ground vehicles, its just highly uneffective (like it is in arma already).

  8. Yes, this is also very annoying. There is nothing worse than having an AA pod set up and shooting at tanks instead of helicopters :391:

Some mods like GL4 that alter how the AI decides what weapons to use have fixed this but honestly BIS should easily make the change to the game.

I see. This is annoying. So maybe just AI should be restricted to do so.

  9. I dont think it is CPU problem. Im getting this black screen since release of ArmA 1. I got this on quite few different PCs and OSs. It is random. Its not happening only in situations when your system is under stres, like a lot of AI => CPU bottleneck.

Only thing is discovered in all this years is that it occurs more often on some drivers then the other. Every time NVIDIA releases new drivers I ask my self if it will cause more black screens in ArmA or not.

  10. I agree with the op, it is a very clumsy system. It's functionality is great but it's implementation is bad. There are so many redundant controls and unnecessary duplicates it can be confusing. Some of the names of controls are misleading too. I would also say that they are not grouped together in a very intuitive fashion.

Being able to use double tab buttons etc and having the game allow you to use conflicting assignments is great though.

Im not sure what you mean by redundant controls and unnecessary duplicates. Can you list exacly what is wrong? Or atleast give a few examples?
