Red Hammer does include some very nice Russian-accented sounds. Come to think of it, I think the sounds disappeared after I patched to 1.46... Or maybe they don't show up at all in multiplayer. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I'm not around my machine for some time now and can't verify. Ta.

I can concur, there was a time before Red Hammer came out, when OFP forums in Hungary were full of people screaming that they wanted to buy OFP but could not find it anywhere... From a business point of view, that's not a bad thing - you don't get stuck with inventory you might not be able to sell. Guess the problem resolved itself tho :) I just wish all those ppl would get online and play, cause it's always the same 20 guys here... Hehe

LOL! Or what if yer Chinook was hit by an RPG and the impact would throw you out of the aircraft. Granted, you still die, but you'll get to see yourself splatter on the ground. Guess it would be too nasty to implement, not to mention that this way a lot more ppl could cram into a transport.

I have a feeling that it's futile to try and convince people otherwise, but... It is impossible to create a bug-free program. With a product as complex as OFP, some bugs are more bothersome than others. I have bought a lot of games that were buggy to the point of being unplayable. I'm sure you all did. Tracking down bugs is a very difficult thing to do, which translates into money in the end, like everything else. They have the choice of either tracking down bugs at no additional cost to us OR devoting their time to creating new things that they can sell for money. The fact that we're now at 1.45 shows that BIS does care, more than most companies. I am very happy with the way BIS handled the patching issue. Few gamemakers do it so well. It is human nature that we all find something to complain about, most of which are non-issues anyway. Fortunately, most people are not swayed by arguments backed up by an outburst of emotions. I'll go back to lurking now, thank you for your attention. [edit: fixed a typo. Aaah, the fallible human nature]

Oh Lord, bless this thy Holy Handgrenade, by with it thou mayest blow thy enemies into tiny bits, in thy mercy.

Now that you mention it, I think I have fallen out of buildings through walls before. That didn't bother me too much then and does not do so now either, but I thought it would be interesting to someone. This might have been in pre-1.30 days as well, my memory's never been too good. I've also fallen out through windows, which I thought was a nice touch. Rough landing, tho, with that sniper fire raining down on me

His post counter dinna go up one wee bit since that ominous message. I think he's gone for good. Mind you, I'd have probably lashed out all the same, because whining irritates me. Oh sure, I'd have felt bad after, but by then it's too late. Good lesson for me to learn here (and anywhere else...) Thou shalt not smite noobs, cause they will never ever come back with an apology. Those few that do, however, deserve a good, friendly slap on the back. Just an unfortunate chain of events...

Actually, I'd just like to know what extensions are installed / required AND where is it that I can get them. This way I will not enter a game where the map is 700k [1] [2], causing needless pain to my fellow players while they wait for me to d/l the thing, only to find out I don't have #doohickey installed, causing me to crash to the desktop and leaving them to fend for their lives in the pool with the other bunch of unwashed gamespyers. Phew. [1] MP maps should not be too large in the first case. I don't want to download a large map to see some fancy intro or to listen to someone bark at me in German [3]. Mind you, there was this map with a chopper and a Jimmy Hendrix tune playing while we were being transported to the battlefield... [2] I'm on a 56k and still enjoy MP. [3] obDisclaimer: Nothing against Germans, it's an example of a language I don't speak. Hey, my granma's German. [4] Infinite loop. Run away, run away! [4]

I don't like the wobbly part of mouse steering, even though they might have fixed it by now. I feel I have more control with the keyboard. Again, your results may vary
-
MP, definitely. The SP campaigns are very good training ground for learning how to drive vehicles (hint: turn off mouse steer and go for 3rd person view) and how to aim RPGs properly. Also teached me when to hit the dirt and when to run for cover. But nothing beats the cunning of a real human being, that's my motto. Well, one of my mottos, anyway.

On a related note, there must be a variable that sets how far away you must be from your leader before he yells at you to get back. Does this figure change depending on the vehicle you're in? Say, 500m on foot or even in a tank is very bad stationkeeping, but I'd find it acceptable when strafing a village from a chopper (not that we do any of that in these parts). Aircraft move much faster and 500m @ 250kph, with 2 choppers flying in opposite directions (and that's 500kph relative), is about 4 seconds.

v1.4 ALWAYS freezes when clicking on "Multiplayer"

I can second the ZA issue. I have the same problem, but as I don't play on LAN, that's not too bad, I just connect by the All Seeing Eye and disable ZA for Miller time. I've taken to using two firewalls side by side. ZoneAlarm makes a very good job of keeping programs from going out on the net (like pesky little spywares) and BlackIce keeps 'em script kiddos out, as well as catching anything that slipped by ZA (not many things do). -
Doh! Now that you mention it, I did get rid of cloudlets in the vain hope of getting a couple more fps's... Ah, the golden dictum, 'when in doubt, read the faq'. RTFM, RTFM, RTFM!! *thud* I think I got it now  Mister Frag, thanks for the Detonator info. Placebo, huge thanks for fixing the avatar, stupid chez.com don't allow hotlinking no more... Tlx, just saying hi
