Just played this (update 6) for a bit tonight for the first time. Really fun mission. Two (minor) issues: - PMC faction showed up as OPFOR - error message at startup about missing addon (ACE Sandbags, I believe) Also, a few suggestions/requests/comments: - I really hope this mission stays addon-free. I like the fact that you've allowed for some addons without forcing players to download the extra content if they don't want it. - A few optional objectives (SecOps) would be nice. Not sure how exactly this would work, though. - The respawn was...weird. I parachuted into an airfield under heavy fire at basically the same point I'd already died. I'm didn't really care for that. I can't think of a better alternative, though, so... ;) - After respawn, the remaining AI team member was #2 while I was #3...is that intentional? Would be cleaner if you'd clear the group and then re-attach each group member under the player. - Default weapons...the rest of the team had decent weapons. Mine was lousy. At the start, I had those holo sights which I despise. After I respawned, I had some weapon with iron sights. I'm not sure if you're forcing that sort of loadout but if so.... why? The rest of the team had perfectly good weapons. I'm fairly sure that the team leader unit doesn't have those sorts of weapons by default so it just seems a bit odd that you'd intentionally start the player with them. - The reward system: not sure why there's a 25-cent bounty on each OPFOR. I mean, I understand the reward concept but...a cash bonus? Of 25 cents? If you want to assign points, why not just assign points/karma/reputation...and then maybe players can use the points for resupply, airstrikes, mortar support, vehicles, etc. Just a thought. Overall, though, it's a really nice mission. You've obviously put a lot of time and effort into making it and you've done a fine job. Thanks for making it! - z

I'd love to see more support for moving/fighting inside buildings and underground. Other than that, my main wish is for a stable (as bug-free as possible!) platform that continues to enable/support user-generated content. There are a lot of good ideas in this thread...I hope the devs are taking notes!

Just curious....are the requirements for the Linux server the same as those for Windows server? For example, this page on the community wiki states: Thanks! -

@ray243: A few posts back Chill gave a rather good explanation of why there aren't tunnels in his ToraBora map. It's a shame, I agree, but it's a limitation of the Arma2 game engine. Also, if you're referring to MoH the game, that's a completely different game and uses a different game engine. Just because something is possible in one game engine doesn't mean it's possible in all game engines. @Chill xl: Really nice job on this map. I'm not too fond of how the road turned out (looks a bit off, somehow...expected more of a dirt road instead of a pair of well-defined tire marks across the terrain maybe) but this is still an outstanding map. I'm really enjoying it so thanks much for the hard work! -

ARMA 2: Private Military Company 1.00 released
zonker3210 replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
The campaign included with this DLC is horrible. I've had no problems downloading the DLC or playing it but the campaign itself...absolute crap. I've purchased every BI game since the original OFP. I purchased and enjoyed the BAF pack. This, however, is just an insulting piece of trash. I'm not going to say that I'll never buy a game from BI again but I certainly won't make the mistake of trusting that they're releasing good stuff. I wish I'd taken the time to read the user reviews rather than relying on the company's (hitherto well-deserved) reputation for quality. If there was a way to get a refund, I'd be demanding one. The people involved in the making of this DLC should be ashamed of themselves.  -
Microlight & Ultralight v1.3 Release
zonker3210 replied to konyo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
You may want to try digging into the BI code to see how they handle parachute animations. Also, it's quite possible that this sort of thing has been discussed over at the OFPEC forums... http://www.ofpec.com/forum/index.php The OFPEC site is down again but hopefully will be back online again soon! -
Microlight & Ultralight v1.3 Release
zonker3210 replied to konyo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I meant that given a choice between two requests (one being a better/easier landing and the other being a military version of the paraglider) I would rather that the landing was fixed first. I'd definitely like a military version but I'd much prefer the landing process be fixed up so that it's easier to land and (even more importantly) stop the glider. As for the colors, I'm not really sure but it seems like whatever colors/patterns are used, they shouldn't be ones that stand out when seen in mid-air. As I said, though, I'm not sure what colors/patterns would be best. A color scheme that blends well with the sky would probably be very visible when the glider is parked on the ground. I'd expect blander/muted colors would be best but who knows. Another idea to help make the glider less visible once it's landed: a collapsible frame/chute that can be packed away or deployed as appropriate. No idea whether this is realistic or not. Also, I don't want to make even more work for you so whatever you do, I'm sure it'll be fine. Thanks again for the fun addon! -
Microlight & Ultralight v1.3 Release
zonker3210 replied to konyo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Heh...yeah, that worked. I'm so used to playing as infantry that I forgot the keys. Thanks! Personally, I'd rather see a more stable landing than a mil version. That said, I vote for a OA-friendly desert version along with the standard camo. In terms of coloring, though, I suggest you keep the colors simple. A dull gray would be nice. After all, let's remember what we're trying to disguise/camouflage...seeing a bunch of olive drab floating overhead isn't going to do much for a stealthy flyby. ;) -
Microlight & Ultralight v1.3 Release
zonker3210 replied to konyo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Maybe...I couldn't start the engine using the mousewheel. So instead of taking off from the ground, I started out in mid-air. While the engine was running, the mousewheel showed an "Engine Off" option but once I turned it off, there was no option to start it back up again. It's quite possible that I overlooked something, though. I'll give it a try again tomorrow. If I should be using some other method to start the engine (perhaps a certain key?), then let me know. Thanks again for the hard work on this very fun mod! -

This addon is a lot of fun. And this is your first release? Very nice job! If you're looking for features to add, here are a few things I'd love to see in a future version: - a military version of the microlight - the ability to restart the engine in mid-air - the ability to stop the dang thing once you land! ;) Regarding that last item, I landed the microlight quite nicely in an open field but it kept moving along the ground until it eventually went into some woods...and then BOOM! It was kinda funny, actually. Regardless, great job on this mod! -
Great map pack, sanders. I've tried a few of these and they're a lot of fun. I have the latest 22 maps (from the v2.0 pack) loaded on a server if anyone wants to try them out on a dedicated server. Just connect and select the desired mission from the mission lobby. If anyone wants a particular mission from this pack loaded as default, I can do so...just let me know. Zonker's Combined Ops server (Zeus AI) IP Address: 206.217.134.58 Port: 3307 Note: The server is running Zeus AI so the opfor may be a bit more aggressive/effective. If you play on there, I *HIGHLY* recommend doing so with the Zeus AI mod (and the CBA mod since the Zeus mod requires it) on the client...since if the server is running the mod and you aren't, you're going to get your butt kicked by the bots. ;)

zonker3210 replied to Rurd2di's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Wait...are you saying the server issue was caused by the fact that they *did* receive the BAF mod portion of the patch and they shouldn't have? Or they *did not* receive that portion of the patch and it was missing? Anyhow, my host (Low Ping Gamers) managed to fix the issue late last night although I'm not sure what exactly caused the problem or how they solved it. They certainly worked their butts off getting it fixed (as they always seem to do in the rare cases when there is a problem with their servers) but it'd be nice to have someone from BI chime in with some details as to what exactly went wrong...and why. -

Am having the same issue. Using the non-beta, DVD version of the game; A2+OA Combined Ops; just ran the v1.54 patch. One thing I noticed is that the server is showing up with a yellow, question mark icon in the server browser. Another thing - the specific "No entry 'bin\config.bin/" error message changes depending on the mission I'm trying to join. Anyone have any suggestions? -
I use Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) to create a Windows server once in a while...it's much cheaper than a hosted solution for me since I have no desire for a full-time server. I can spin up a server instance when I need it and configure it exactly the way I want it. That said, it's not something I'd recommend if you're going to want a server running 24/7 with since the hourly costs add up. I haven't tried a Linux server but I know that would be cheaper than a Windows instance. Also, I'm only using the server for myself and a friend or two. If you're looking for a server to host a large group of players, you'd need a high-CPU instance and that would, of course, cost more. I've been meaning to write up a step-by-step guide for how to run Arma/Arma2 in Amazon's EC2 cloud...hopefully one of these days I'll sit down and actually write it!

Enemy can pinpoint your exact location after you set-off some satchel charges.
zonker3210 replied to SASrecon's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I don't understand why you took off your NVG...? Anyhow, without night vision on, the video doesn't indicate whether any of the AI patrols are nearby. Nor does it indicate whether or not you are within line of sight of the tank crews (who, as previously mentioned, have NVG of their own). It does, however, seem to show you lying out in the open even if it *is* nighttime. It looks like folks at Dev Heaven were also unable to reproduce the "bug" and changed it to a "Feedback" ticket so I really don't know what else to say except...sorry! That really does look like a pain in the neck. Perhaps you'll have more luck if you restart the mission....it takes less than 45 minutes, if I recall correctly. -
Czech soldiers speaking English?
zonker3210 replied to Tore's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Plus there's the US soldiers who swing back and forth between British and American accents....in mid-sentence, no less. I'm not sure if it's voice acting failure or if the game is somehow loading phrases incorrectly from different regional settings...?! -

zonker3210 replied to SASrecon's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I had similar problems on my first attempt at this mission. However, I think the problem is the light of the explosion (perhaps alert flares, too?) along with the increased enemy alert levels were enough to reveal my location. Also, the tank crews do have NVGs so it's possible they saw you. Anyhow, my solution is in the spoiler area below... It worked just fine for me so I'm not really sure this issue is actually a game issue. ;) -

OA Dedicated server and missions with Arma 2 units
zonker3210 replied to shuko's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I just got a server hang when loading A2:OA (Combined Ops) with only one addon: DAC v3. It works fine when I run the dedicated server without the addon or if I run the server as a host & play with the addon enabled. Enabling/disabling addon verification on the server makes no difference. Interestingly enough, the server runs fine with non-Arma2 worlds. If I run a mission in, say, Takistan, the server loads the mission just fine...with or without the addon. However, when I try to run a mission that takes place in either Chernarus or Utes, the server chokes.
