I believe he is is the author on the matter But, anyway, and this is just a suggestion, but, maybe, take a step back and say to yourself, 'hey, this guide isn't for me,' chill out, and stop pissing in people's cheerios? I dunno, maybe that's just me. The guide's intended for people unfamiliar with the game and who have no experience with a more tactical shooter like ArmA. If you're some uber veteran milsim virtual incarnation of rambo then pat yourself on the back and call it a day, there's no need to grind an axe. As a ShackTac'r I'm obviously biased, but when I want to play CTF/DM I prefer the arcade style of play. That's the Quake/UT/Enemy Territory style of games. It's not better or worse, just different, like the people who play them. What I've enjoyed most out of OFP are the giant cooperative combined arms maps we've played as a group, and, as we progress into this new game, we'll definitely be putting ArmA through its paces. There's not many games where you can get that, and that's what this guide was aimed at, not you and what you think is best. If that's not your thing, then fair enough, but dsl's put a 'bit' of work into this and has done a lot for this community, whether you know it or not, for you to be saying the things you have. I feel so dirty replying to the troll.

I have those sims. I'll also get Black Shark when it's released. I was a huge fan of the Jane's Longbow series also. Instead of asking for it to be totally dumbed down for you, why not step up to the plate and accept the challenge? They surely don't need to go the BF series route. You want to talk about unnatural? They're helicopters, not UFOs. BIS is on the right track with this flight model. It's nit-pickable for sure, but the avionics aren't there like they would be on a more dedicated helo sim, so consider yourself lucky there. That said, I'm really happy there's a combined arms sim like ArmA that's going to let me take advantage of all the analog axes on my Cougar. OFP failed horribly at this. (due to the control code, not the FM) The BF series does not even warrant a mention in this regard. I think the mousers will do just fine, also. They may even have more precision in certain instances, but they'll be missing out on the analog 'feel' of at least two axes using the keys.

Well the support people were of no help. They just went thru their checklist: Check MD5 sum, reboot in 'lite' mode, try manual activation. Blah blah blah. Want to know what it was? When I typed in the CD key for the installer. I used lower case letters. The installer accepts that, but evidently the game, nor the patch, do. I tried it again today with a clear head and used uppercase just on a whim, and both the game and the patch worked alright. I was about at the end of my rope too. Overall, though, it's still the worst experience I've ever had installing a game. And that's saying something.

I used this trick to get past this same problem. However, I'm now faced with two new problems, and I still can't play the game. Problem 1: When I go to run the game I get: Bad serial number given in Setup Awesome. It woked for the install, why not the game? ..and, yes, I paid for it. Problem 2: When I go to install the 1.02 patch I get: ArmA: Armed Assault is not installed on your computer or installation is corrupted. Bonus. I'm guessing this is related to the fact I had to reboot out of the installation, in order for it not to be deleted on the unavoidable installation error. Any word on an 'official' fix for this? This is rather disgraceful, in my opinion. Software should not be released in this kind of state. I've already contacted [email protected], but I wanted to throw a net in here and see if something fortunate would happen. I've been all f'in day.. Any help is appreciated, as I'm rather frustrated with this POS. I hope this isn't any indication of how their US release is going to go.

I'm in the HOTAS cougar camp myself. I really hope they do support multi-axis sticks like the cougar, and make a flight and avionics model closer to longbow 2 than say the BF series. I could never control the helos in BF with my cougar, but using a saitek p2500 did the trick, so I wouldn't want them using BF as an example. The planes, I felt, were particularly horrible. Anyway, I don't wanna step on any BF fans toes, so I'll leave it at that. But, yeah, I really hope they implement a system that's HOTAS friendly and lets us fling these birds around with a control system that's as close to the real things as we can get with a sim. Collective, cyclic, and rudder yaw controls on the HOTAS, ftw!

I believe in ArmedAssault, they'll be implementing support for the TrackIR device to give you 'freelook' of your head independant of your weapon/body by using, well, your head! There's a video of it in action floating around somewhere. Shouldn't be too hard to look up. Also, I think the mouse control, as is, for FPS is pretty well served. I don't think I want to play a game where my gun and aim functions like a tank turrent.
