Sorry, I don't use my hard earned cash to rent intangible products from a company that serves me adverts, encroaches on my gameplay experience with stat collecting bloatware or has the ability to steal back or disable what I legitimately own.

ARMA 3 Engine and Fighting Positions, Trenches and Prepared Positions
zinc replied to falcon_565's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
As there's no deformable terrain, how about placing craters? -
Will large ships be able to move? Well I hope so, otherwise it will be just a piece of land shaped like a ship.
-
I'd also like to see female soldiers in Arma 3, the video above has a selection of female service personnel from around the world.
-
It's odd how some men perceive military service or conflict as a predominantly male only occupation, women have participated in war for thousands of years and in some cases made history while doing it. It's only in the last five or six hundred years that women have really been excluded. Let's have them back on the Battlefield.
-
There are more women in the Chinese Army than the total population of the USA. So, I voted 'yes' to ladies in uniform. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=717_1308676925

It's time for female soldiers to get some mud under their perfectly manicured fingernails and maybe snap the odd heel off their pretty pink stiletto shoes while attacking an enemy bunker. Yes, I want sexy ladies clad in black leather prancing around the battlefield nagging orders at me... please.

These sort of effects can enhance gameplay in some situations, such as getting caught in an explosion, simulating shock etc. But, there are enough 'hints' in combat (even in arma1) to tell you you're been shot at ffs. All the developers need to do is multiply those effects. Remember what it was like in OFP1 when the Shilka opened fire on your position? 'Frightening' is an bloody understatement. More smoke/dust/particles/thuds/dings/cracks/ricochets/noise = "DANGER", that's basically all you need to tell the player ' If you move right now.. you are fecking toast mate' The gun sights shaking would be reasonably acceptable when pinned down, but the blurred vision is about as realistic as Michael Jacksons nose.

Did I just see a soldier striding over a fence? Fecking A+ There's so much in that video which people have been requesting on this forum, I'm gob smacked most of it has been included. The sound is truly awesome, the explosions are much better, freefall parachuting (at last). One minor gripe only, the bright blood splurt on the entry wound would be better displayed behind, where it's exiting the body instead. Less red, finer mist, bigger spray. Amazing video, nice features - and thanks for listening to the community.

Thanks for posting that link. Well, I hope the developers aren't sticking that sort of rubbish in Arma 2, because that's the 'corner cutting' I was worried about and belongs in a third rate game. Naff at best.

I'm not sure about this sort of cheesy effect being added to the game, I think I'll put off buying Arma2 until I've seen some user created in-game video of this. I don't like this type of 'feature' (and I use that term loosely) forced upon the player, I can see it becoming tedious and extremely annoying very quickly, especially in large battles with lots of action and bullets whizzing around. If you want to 'shake my hands' or 'blur my vision' do it when I've been caught in a shell/bomb/grenade blast, or when I'm injured. I don't consider this a realistic detail at all. I'm sure a few of you know what real 'shock' is when it kicks in, tunnel vision in black and white and low muffled inaudible sounds except for a constant monotone ringing in your ears, and then everything fading back to normal after ten seconds. I'd much rather see real effects like that implemented than these (what I consider to be) 'corner cutting' ones.

I agree, women spend many hours on games these days. It would be a shame not to have them represented in Arma2. I mean, it is the 21st Century ffs. It's like the old argument about having kids as part of the civillian population in Arma, you may as well remove the old gits as well then. God forbid that some old granny will accidentally get killed by a stray bullet or squashed by a tank. I think excluding important details from a game makes for a shallow experience, especially common details which people are bound to eventually notice. I don't see a problem with having women represented in-game, it would be nice maybe see an all-female clan whipping some male arses around here eventually (not in the literal sense lol).

I thought that was already in the pipeline?

I'd like to see civs with purpose, instead of the zombiefied 'road wanderers' like the current ones. I'd also like to see some terror/fear/shock in those faces and a little posturing, like folded arms, heads down, crying etc. Dusty/dirty/ragged clothes? These are farming people living and working out in the countryside, within a war zone. With those completely expressionless faces, they look like they're out shopping at the local mall. Please remove them from the road, otherwise they'll completely cock up the AI's pathfinding abilities, cause major traffic jams, delays, vehicle crashes and probably just get squashed in the process. Pavements are for pedestrians, roads are for vehicles. If you want them to cross the road, create a proper black and white crossing where the traffic will stop. Ah well.. let's see what BIS decides.

Most important annoyance ARMA 2 must get rid of
zinc replied to Universel's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I'm not sure what it would take to flip a tank (probably quite a lot), but I'm tired of seeing them upside down while travelling from A to B simply by colliding with an object or another vehicle enroute. Also, large motorized columns are completely disorganised when setting off from a start location, this often results in several destroyed and abandoned vehicles eventually littering the roadside. The AIs 'problem solving' skills for vehicles really needs examining. To illustrate the problem, I once setup a road block on a narrow coastal road using another vehicle, when the enemy tanks got there, they simply drove off the cliff and into the sea. I also setup a road block on a narrow pass, the huge column of tanks just stopped and did nothing. Surely tanks would either push obsticles out of the way, or completely blow them to smithereens in these cases? AI on bridges, this still causes problems in my missions. I understand that vehicles in Arma 2 will be using both sides of the road to get around (hurrah!, but does anyone know if the units on foot will still use the middle of the road, or the grass verges on each side of the road as they should? I'm asking, because I'm tired of soldiers on foot getting squashed under the wheels of friendly vehicles. It would be nice to have a large mix of different units (armour, light, and foot soldiers) all travelling together, and arriving at waypoint B with no losses enroute. -
How about swimming into a heavily boat patroled enemy harbour, maybe plant time delayed explosives on a couple of enemy destroyers? The other idea I had is for campaigns. How about three separate ones, Airforce, Army and Navy?

When I saw the forum title 'Carrier Command', I thought to myself "Nah, it can't be that amazing game I played to death on my Commodore Amiga" I watched the movie and heard the word 'Manta' mentioned, which was a dead givaway. I always remembered that the 'enemy carrier' was much faster than mine and a complete git to destroy, plus it was nearly impossible to find in the first place. Although it was an early game, it was way ahead of it's time and from what I remember, the AI's strategy was amazingly good. If I remember rightly, some islands had very active volcanoes, pretty dangerous things when you're flying over the island in a Manta. I also liked how you could automate tasks using waypoints, bloody brilliant game. What can I say except, I'm impressed!

Man, that's old tech. The Aborigines were using that shape to kill kangeroos ten thousand years ago. At least if it runs out of fuel, it'll always come back to base.

I said after Arma was released that I wasn't going to support BI again in the future, but those models look pretty tasty guys. If you put as much detail into the rest of the game as you've done with the vehicle models, then I'll gladly throw my money on the counter when the time comes. Looking good!

Are you certain about that statement? Melissa Thomas is suing EA for the invasive DRM bundled with Spore. Kamber Edelson, who is the lawyer representing her was involved in the Ubisoft 'Starforce' lawsuit, and the Sony BMG XCP Rootkit lawsuit, (the DRM placed on audio CDs). And we all know what happened to those two, dont we? Spore Lawsuit: http://www.courthousenews.com/2008/09/23/Spore.pdf Mass Effect: http://www.courthousenews.com/2008/10/08/MassEffect.pdf This is just the tip of the iceberg, two top lawfirms are currently putting together a case against every publisher who released a game bundled with the SecuROM rootkit. http://www.girardgibbs.com/Spore.a....dV3ZwEA *Edit: Third Class Action Lawsuit Launched Against EA http://docs.justia.com/cases....1 BTW, If any of you are thinking of buying "DCS Black Shark" just remember that a new version of 'Starforce' will be used as copy protection for that sim, so keep an eye on your cd/dvd drives guys.

Those were some realistic looking wrecks in OFP, would be nice if BI implemented a damage engine similar to that, but better. Hell, you could go around flattening cars with your tank. Distorted models can look pretty good if done right, especially (as someone mentioned before) with mangled up bodies inside.

This is why I'd like to open my own parachute, rather than the automatically activated one we have now. Ever tried to shoot something travelling at free fall speed Mind you, they'd be a few red smudges on the landscape if you didn't time it right, or the server suddenly lagged. lol Medic!!!!

The most important features ARMA 2 needs to have
zinc replied to Stryder's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Some things I would like to see in Arma 2... Realistic vehicle explosions, bigger blast radius, plus debris. Bomb/Blast crators. 'Stunned' for soldiers caught in explosions. Fully destructible landscapes. Chunks/blood option, plus ragdoll physics. Mission Editor: Select/Use all 3D objects in the game. 21st Century combat vehicles and weapons. AI that isn't psychic. AI that can 'drive' and get from A to B without crashing. Parachutes which don't open automatically. I'm allowed to dream... -
I noticed that the tank blowing up on the runway in the video went through the same sorta animations it did in ArmA. Got hit, turret drops, texture change to scorched, explodes. What? When a tank gets hit, the developers could easily hide all the stages of destruction which we don't need to see with an initial explosion plus smoke and dust. It's still unconvincing and quite unrealistic, I hope details like that will be fixed before release, including the blast area from a tank exploding, vehicle destruction was one issue I had with ArmA.
