Mission with cooperation with rebells
whopper_with_cheese replied to ph00nix's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
The mission the OP referes to is BADLANDS when you're with the CDK and need to take out 4 bases. The link provided above, to modify the campaign, is for 'Dogs of War' so i didnt want to touch it. I ended up taking out the 1st base alone, then after the next cut scene i was able to order my men around again. To be honest, it was actually more fun doing it alone...not having to nurse maid numbers 2/3/4 :) EDIT: BEEN FIXED in 1.03 -
Does ARMA2 actually utilise graphics cards??
whopper_with_cheese replied to Zepboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
yep, been playing it all day on 4ghz and zero probs. Bugs and scripted cr@p aside, this game is pretty slick. -
Bitter Chill Quick Question
whopper_with_cheese replied to phil545's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
yep, what a bag of sh1te. Whilst driving along to the coast, i was finally thinking to myself "wow, a mission that actually feels like opflashpoint" i.e. where i choose how to complete it...using my own initiative" then this scripted sh1te occurs and kills the immersion. makes me want to install Opflash again and forget about Arma2 -

Installed Win7 (XP before) .... first A2 impressions
whopper_with_cheese replied to kremator's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
which win7 ? 32/64 bits? my win 7 (build 7600/x64) was playable...but in xp 32 is silky smooth. i7 920, 6gb, gtx295 might try putting the cpu to 3.9 later, seems to be fine on 3.7, and se if it makes any diff in vista/win7 x64 also, does the RC win7 start shutting down after 2 hours, as of august sometime? -
Constant radio chatter on repeat in SP??
whopper_with_cheese replied to chlywly's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
i didnt know what that talking around town was, after playing this all day. thought it might be a broadcast, but couldnt see any speakers in the streets/on telephone poles. did get some subtitles in one town though for the broadcast re: coordinates, look on your map (M key)...the bottom shows 1st 3 digits then left shows last 3 digits as for chopper, at least he's not trying to land in the only trees/buildings visible for a mile :) might need to revert the game, if ordering him somewhere else doesnt get him moving -
An open letter to BIS Devs re: GTX 295 rigs.
whopper_with_cheese replied to wazandy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
yes, many peoples seem to just say they've got a 295...not who the manufacturer (e.g. evga) is, which version of 295 from that manufacturer they have etc -
Does ARMA2 actually utilise graphics cards??
whopper_with_cheese replied to Zepboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
i know i know :) just commenting on the core clock speed observations relative to the game performance. ive put a V8 cooler in today, and just letting the thermal compound settle for a couple of days before trying to crank it up to 4ghz or so. when u say air @ 3.9, was that with stock cooler or aftermarket ? -

whopper_with_cheese replied to Zepboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
absolutely, state what they tested it on and more importantly: what was used to make the demo movies on. (thats what we judge our purchases on) I dont care if the specs are 5x better than what i have, at least i have a realistic idea of where my PC isnt up to scratch. My arma2 runs like a bag of sh1te after downgrading to a quad core (i7 920 @2.66) from a dual core at 4Ghz. No surprises that 'sim' games (FSX, x-plane, black shark) all have taken a massive performance hit, but 'game' games like crysis run superb. No point having 4 cores if each of them is slower, game isn't using them all and the CPU therefore cant tell the vid card what to draw quick enough. Having said that, after going through the pain of triple booting my PC with clean builds of XPHome32sp3, VistaHomePremx64,Windows 7600x64...XP is by far the quickest for arma2 on my pc (evga295coop,6gb ddr3). No jerky texture loading that is experienced at start of level under vista and windows7. -
Problem with graphics

£215 for E8600 on amazon, sure thats not the cheapest place to buy from either. i'd offer to sell u mine cheep, but i might need to go back to it if i cant get the i7 to behave :) -
Problem with graphics
whopper_with_cheese replied to Reticulum's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
i had c2Duo E8600, and at stock (3.33GHz), ARMA2 ran ok w/ 2x GTX9800+. Running the E8600 at 4GHz improved the situation somewhat, i.e. better framerates but still a little stuttering as it loaded new textures in the cities. Swapped the graphics cards for single EVGA 295 COOP, and whilst framerates didnt seem to change - it was silky smooth (no stutters, no mouse lag). Changed the processor yesterday to i7 920, and the game runs utterly rubbish now, no doubt due to 'downgrading' to a 2.66GHz stock speed. Tried in Vista64 and Windows7 x64 Looking forward to overclocking that i7 bad boy when cooler arrives tomorrow, tweaking my memory etc, but dont expect ARMA2 performance to exceed what the E8600 dual core had. -
Installing ArmA 2 on Windows 7 64-Bit?
whopper_with_cheese replied to waylay00's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Pity windows7 is the more stable of the two, though arma2 patches fine in v7600 x64. please excuse me for not using bold to shout back -
C2duo E8600 @ 4.0 4GB Gskill @ 1333 2x EVGA 9800GTX+ Copperhead mouse 1680x1050, Normal details, 2xAA, 2000 view distance, no post processing Had some mouse lag. Swapped vid cards out for an EVGA 295 COOP today...and: No more mouse lag...framerates are similar (According to Fraps) but game feels 10x faster. Its like the gun in game is extension of my hand/playing counter strike or bf2.

Troubleshooting TrackIR in ArmA 2 / OA
whopper_with_cheese replied to Merad's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
looks like your computer is well recessed into the wall there, hence no problem from that side window -
will my comp run arma2?
whopper_with_cheese replied to hiney's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
my money would be on cpu investment. simulator games, lomac/arma/black shark etc, love a blinding fast processer. the e8600 gave a huge performance increase in arma2 going from 3.33 (Stock) to 4.2ghz so oc the cpu if the new vid card doesnt reap much benefit -

see now that should b incorporated into the game, if you're smoking at night (game)time, the enemy can see your cigarette glow on the nvgs -
Troubleshooting TrackIR in ArmA 2 / OA
whopper_with_cheese replied to Merad's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
what software problem ? you're using trackir5 software for Black shark and ARMA arent you ? ive had the TrackIR5 occasionally flick around in 2 circumstances: 1) i hadnt told the trackir5 profile to use the track clip pro...i.e. it was still set for the other 3prong thingy that sits on your cap. 2) i have a window open (curtains not closed) ANYWHERE in the room. i.e. i window adjacent to my PC was open and i guess too much light was reflecting around the room. This wasnt a problem with Trackir4, i think the trackir5 must be a lot more sensitive. -
Big Video Bug with 9800GTX+
whopper_with_cheese replied to sleayer's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
You might want to put some more detail to help people reproduce and/or understand your problem. Do you have a screenshot of this weird color coming into the screen ? Where is the problem occuring ? Is it in campaign, multiplayer or ...? I have 2 EVGA 9800 GTX+'s, E8600@4.2Ghz, 4GB Gskill@1333 Screen Res: 1680x1050 I installed Arma2 on my Vista64 partition. Put the EVGA SLi patch on, since i was expecting to run SLi. Had most settings on HIgh except post processing. 2xAA, view distance 2600. Framerates were getting down to low-mid 20s running around in cities, 45-50 elsewhere. Had the problem of it stuttering when i was turning around fast in a new area. So i tried disabling SLi in the nvidia control panel (the 2 cards still physically connected in the pc though), and that stuttering went away. Framerates indicated were identical, but it was 500% times smoother turning around. Tried overclocking the graphics card (though didnt know what i was really doing). It didnt yield much in FPS increase (adding further to what most people know - fast CPU is more important for sim games) - but caused the video driver to crash after some time (time to crash varied based on how much i tried to overclock). When it did crash, the Arma2 screen would go black, i could see a big windows arrow on the screen, and i had to altTab away to kill Arma2 in task manager. So put the speed of the graphics card back to normal. Playing the campaign i noticed the framerate getting under 20 at times, making it quite unplayable. Installed Windows7600 (x64) on another partition of same hard disk that Vista64 was on. Installed another copy of Arma2 on the same hard disk that initial copy of Arma2 was on. Installed the NVIDIA SLI patch. (not the EVGA one) Windows 7 ran Arma2 with similar framerates, but the stuttering (i had with SLI under Vista64) returned even though SLI was off. So i turned SLi ON, things seemed a lot smoother. Started playing the campaign again, and framerates were similar to Vista64, i.e. around low20s when action started heating up etc. So i've dropped my settings now, all to Normal, view distance of only 1700, no post processing, 2xAA still. Framerates are 35-42 in the busy areas now, sitting on 60 in the forests etc. Game now looks same [ worse ? :) ] than Arma1...but at least its very smooth and playable so i'm happy for the time being. -
TrackIR non functional after joystick install
whopper_with_cheese replied to COLD FUSION's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
does TrackIR still show as enabled, in the Arma screen that lists your controllers ? i.e. they can be individually be enabled and disabled within Arma2 i have x52 and trackir too, works ok (though the trackir5 software seems to die now and then) -
Hello all, going to try win7, more cause i'm bored rather than expecting it to give any increase in performance. What do i need to back up though. If theres one thing i hate more than the sub 30fps on arma2...its the thought of having to setup all the keys/joystick mappings again. gives me cold shivers just thinking about it. Is it just the stuff in the folder: c:\users\(user name)\documents\arma2 ?

Im getting new cpu and need advise
whopper_with_cheese posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
In the same vain as the video card thread, i want to upgrade my system too. Currently got C2Duo E8600, 2x 9800GTX+ I'll prob go for a 4890 or 295 for the vid card, but the CPU i'm not too sure about. A lot of reviewing websites suggest getting the i7-920 and overclocking the hell out of it, i.e. dont bother getting one of the later i7s because you'll end up around 4Ghz anyways. Just wanted to hear of peoples real world experiences with this. Also, specific motherboard recomendations would be welcome. Asus P6Ts seem to get a good rap, but there seem to be a number of variations of them. tar muchly -
Earthquake?

going to try other areas...its my pet project now (crickets on tv [c'mon aussies], so cant concentrate on playing arma2 proper) -
Just playing around in editor to test what video settings to use, shot a KA52 with Stinger as he was approaching me at the port/harbour. He veered to left, just managed to land (crash) on the edge of the port, then a section of the ground suddenly shot up underneath him...is this a common occurence ? Common occurence ?

ok, lets all drop it now peoples :) i was going to say: cant people try my little mission instead of arguing about a before picture being needed...but Thr0tts message implies it probably doesnt need to be tested by other people...3 people have now witnessed this, and it seems it may only be the harbour that is problematic...so not a high priority issue i might try the other harbours...
